Maybelline Eye Studio Legendary Lilac Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches
Spring Pastels with Maybelline are a Little Too Light
Maybelline Eye Studio Legendary Lilac Eyeshadow Quad ($9.99) includes an icy silver with very faint, icy lilac shimmer; a lilac-lavender with gold shimmer; a blue-based blue-purple with subtle gold shimmer; and an eggplant purple with red undertones. This is probably my least favorite Eye Studio Eyesahdow Quad I’ve tested–it’s very faint overall. The pigmentation just isn’t there in three of the four shades (all but the eggplant-y one). I like the concept of four different purple shades, but I must say the blue-based purple might have been nicer with another, stronger medium purple with red undertones.
The eyeshadows themselves are soft and smooth, they just lack pigmentation. I’ve been happier with some of the other variations in this product type, like Good with Gold. This is definitely a skip variation to me — if the colors had more pay off, it could be a nice a way to try out purple eyeshadow, but since they’re already so soft, it’s hard to build up the intensity with these.

Recommendation: Skip this one — it’s just too faint — unless you love really soft, subtle color!
Funny enough, the other quads looked much better, the colors more appealing too … This one is definitely not calling me ! The colors look nearly chalky, which is not a look I’d go for !
The purple is nice, but again, I have seen these colours done from so many other brands.
I think it’s pretty, but the two lighter shades do look a little chalky
Uh do I have a twin walking around? Referring to the previous poster
How would they look over a black base? Like Blackground?
It could be pretty! I think that they’re still quite sheer, so you’ll definitely get more of a shimmery overlay over the black of Blackground than a real color change.
This is one of the very few shades available in the UK and the reason why I never bothered purchasing any of these. Just too blah! 😐
funny!!! this colors on your arm doesn’t seems like the ones on the palette…
That third one kills me. I NEED it!
these e/s are like mac pigments from mac s.forecast??
Kind of, just not nearly as pigmented…
I’m not much of an dark eyeshadow gal so this might be a pretty good eyeshadow quad for me. They look pretty rich in the container, thank goodness you did this swatch or I might have passed them on! 🙂
HA! Okay so this was the first (and only) quad I bought from this line, and I hated it! And I was kinda shocked because your other reviews seemed to generally have positive things to say about the Eye Studio Quads. For the most part, I tend to agree with you. So its interesting to read that this was your least favorite… Maybe I won’t completely rule these quads out.
Like a lot of makeup, your mileage may vary 🙂 The best one I’ve tried was the gold one, but I find that drugstore brands are often better at more neutral shades — so I definitely wanted to try some of the bolder, more color-heavy quads too. I haven’t found any to be as good as the gold one I tried, but there are some that are better than others. (This one being the worst I’ve tried.)
I own this quad and agree that it’s a little sheer dry, but I’ve had good luck using this quad (and other eye studio quads) wet. I love the blue lilac shade. I don’t own anything like it and my collection is huge.
A lot of people are saying it looks chalky, it actually isn’t! It’s smooth and the colours are so pretty! You have to look at in the store, the pics online don’t do it justice!
