Makeup Geek Lemon Drop Eyeshadow
Makeup Geek Lemon Drop Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “shimmery bright lemon yellow.” It’s a bright pop of medium, sunshine yellow with a frosted, almost metallic, finish. It had really nice color payoff, and the texture was soft and buttery–a smidgen powdery. A little of this goes a long, long way on the eye! Fyrinnae Banana Mochi (P, $6.80) is lighter. It wore well for nine hours without fading or creasing. Sephora Collection Banana Split (05) (P, $13.00) is very similar. NARS Flowers 1 #5 (LE, $24.00) is less metallic. MAC Double Feature #1 #1 (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Bright Sunshine (P, $15.00) is a touch lighter. Make Up For Ever #24 (P, $23.00) is a cream product. Inglot #323 (P, $6.00) is matte. See comparison swatches.
Pixie Dust Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “shimmery lime green.” It’s a yellowed, chartreuse green with a frosted, metallic finish. The texture was soft, buttery, and smooth, while it had excellent pigmentation. It lasted just over eight and a half hours on me. Kat Von D Birdcage (LE) is greener. CoverGirl Lime Light (310) (LE, $4.99) is greener. NARS Rated R #1 (P, $24.00) is more matte, greener. MAC Double Feature #2 #1 (LE, $15.00) is similar. MAC Brilliantly Lit (LE, $18.50) is a cream product. See comparison swatches.
Appletini Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “shimmery apple green with flecks of gold.” It’s a medium-dark green with almost cool undertones and a warmer, muted gold sheen. It had fairly good color payoff, but the texture was on the more powdery side, so it sheered out somewhat when blended. It wore well for almost eight hours. Fyrinnae Dragon’s Wing (P, $6.80) is less golden. Fyrinnae Electric Stardust (P, $6.80) is lighter. MAC Wondergrass (LE, $15.00) is brighter. MAC Guacamole (LE, $15.00) is similar, not as shimmery. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Foxfire (P, $14.00) is more metallic, cooler-toned. Sugarpill Tipsy (P, $12.00) is brighter, more intense. See comparison swatches.
Shimmermint Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “metallic mint green with gold shimmer.” It’s a muted, pale meadow green with soft gold shimmer and a frosted finish. It had good color payoff, and the texture was soft and blendable but slightly powdery. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading. Fyrinnae Electric Stardust (P, $6.80) is lighter. MAC Golden Olive (LE, $21.00) is a bit darker. Guerlain Coup de Foudre #3 (LE) is cooler-toned. bareMinerals Wicked (P) is lighter. Make Up For Ever #34 (P, $20.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches.
Poolside Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “bright shimmery teal with specks of gold.” It’s a bold, slightly aqua-leaning blue with fine sparkle. It’s listed as “specks of gold,” but it looked more silver to me. It had good pigmentation, though it is a shade that applies better over a base and patted on, because it was powdery. It was slightly faded at almost eight hours of wear. Disney by Sephora Blue Lagoon (LE) is similar. Sephora Collection Surfin’ USA (14) (P, $13.00) is brighter, more metallic. MAC Blue Calm (P, $15.00) is bluer, darker. MAC Parrot (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Peace (P, $18.00) is bluer, lighter. NARS South Pacific #1 (P, $24.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.
Yellow Brick Road Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “shimmery pale yellow.” It’s a more muted, paler yellow with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It’s a lot less intense and over-the-top compared to Lemon Drop, and it has a less metallic/frosted finish. The texture is soft but a touch powdery at times, but the color payoff was fairly good. It wore well for eight hours. Wet ‘n’ Wild A Regular at the Factory #1 (LE) is lighter, more matte. MAC Bright Yellow (P, $15.00) is matte, brighter. MAC Double Feature #1 #1 (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

I have been hearing all good things about makeupgeek products, especially eye shadows. Thanks for reviewing them here for a more unbiased opinion.
No problem, Eesha!
Hi Christine. I’m not familiar with this brand so I have a question. Do these shadows come as depicted, i.e. just in the pan and not in a palette or container? They look perfect for dropping into my Z Palettes. Thanks.
Hi Deb!
You can purchase them in just pan form for $5.99, and then I believe it’s $7.99 if you want it in a compact.
One of these days, some MUG will be mine.
Make it soon! 😉
LOL Me too!
i’ve never tried makeup geek, but i keep wanting to. i have a hard time buying things when i can’t try them first…especially if they can’t be returned. there are so many colors that i have no idea which ones to choose. thanks for reviewing them so maybe i can start with a few that look really good. they are so inexpensive and seem like the quality is great!
i can’t believe i haven’t tried her eyeshadows yet! i need to asap
You definitely should give ’em a try!
Nice shades. I love the look you created with these eyeshadows.
Thanks, Chantel! xo
Although I do mainly prefer neutrals, I really like Shimmermint & Appletini.
Oooh la la, bright bright bright! I love that, especially now that everyone seems to have turned to dark or neutrall fall colors 🙂
I really like Pixie Dust and Appletini. Glad to see MUG is continuing to get good reviews!
Are the backs magnetic, or do I need to stick a magnetized sticker to the back to poop them in a Z-palette? Thanks!
They’re just metal pans, but all of mine are in Z-palettes and they stay in there based on the magnetic bottom of the Z-palette. I believe you only need to add a magnetized sticker if the pan isn’t metal!
Anyone else feel like Lemon Drop and Yellow Brick Road should be switched? That bugged me when I was on the site the other day lol
wow! appletini and shimmermint are so pretty! wish i would have given them more of a glance last time i ordered from MUG!
I sent my boyfriend a link to this line of eyeshadows and said, “Christmas is coming. You know what kinds of colors I like!”
Haha!
beautiful eye makeup
Such a bright pretty eye look you did using these colors, gorgeous!
Pixie dust looks scary in the pan, but when swatched, it looks like such a pretty gold color.
Oh yellows don’t do it for me, but I LOVE cool greens. Very pretty.
Hi Christine, would you say Pixie Dust is a good dupe for Mac’s Three Ring Yellow? I so wanted this LE eyeshadow, but it turns out they only brought 3 to the Mac store in Costa Rica! THREE! It was sold out before I could get it. 🙁
Hey Adriana!
I would say it’s a bit greener and darker, but it’s a worthy shade to consider in place of Three Ring Yellow!
Appletini looks interesting, I’m a sucker for complex shimmers.
Pixie Dust, Yellow Brick Road and Poolside are GORGEOUS! I need to order one of the starter kits asap. The formula seems great!
How does Pixie Dust compare to Sugarpill’s Acidberry? Also, how do you think each pairs with Sugarpill’s Goldilux?
Pixie Dust is yellower, shimmery, way less green. Either would work with Goldilux, though Pixie Dust leans quite warm so it would pair better with Goldilux from that perspective!
Do you think if you layered Sugarpill’s Acidberry and MUG’s Lemon Drop, you could get that yellowish-green effect? I know it won’t be spot on, but just be in the yellow-green family?
Yes, I think you could get there 🙂 Acidberry does have yellow tones to it, so with Lemon Drop with it, I think you’ll find it works!
