Make Up For Ever D200, D206, S234, I220, D104 Artist Shadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Make Up For Ever D104 Black Diamond Artist Shadow
Make Up For Ever D200 Crystalline Mauve Turquoise Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright white with a blue iridescent shimmer-sheen. It had an overall frosted finish with fairly good color payoff. The texture was soft, buttery, and blendable on the lid. It lasted for eight hours on me before creasing slightly. Disney by Sephora Sick of Swimmin’ (LE) is similar. Maybelline Waves of White (LE, $6.99) is a cream product. Sugarpill Lumi (P, $12.00) is greener. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever D206 Celestial Blue Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a brightened, sky blue with subtle aqua tones (making it a “warmer” blue) with a sparkly, frosted finish. It had so-so color payoff–definitely one of the weaker shades I’ve tested so far. The consistency was creamy and smooth with a wet-like feeling. It lasted for eight hours with minor fall out over time. Too Faced Joy (LE, $16.00) is lighter, less sparkly. theBalm B2 (LE, $16.00) is greener, less sparkly. CoverGirl Turquoise Glow (325) (LE, $4.99) is warmer. L’Oreal Endless Sea (P, $7.99) is darker. Make Up For Ever #150 (DC, $20.00) is a lot lighter, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever S234 Azure Blue Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bold, brightened, medium-dark blue-teal with a satin-matte finish. It was intensely pigmented with a soft, smooth texture that felt more like a cream than a powder. The color lasted for nine hours before fading slightly. It did lightly stain the skin but went away after a few hours. Make Up For Ever I-20 (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, cream. Maybelline Never Fade Jade (P, $6.99) is darker. Fyrinnae Gender Bent (P, $6.80) is more shimmery. MAC Cool Heat (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever I220 Sapphire Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a navy blue with a subtle, pearly sheen. It had nice color payoff that went on evenly and smoothly. The creamier, more buttery consistency made blending really easy, despite how rich and pigmented the shade was. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly. Urban Decay Moonshadow (P, $18.00) is lighter, more shimmery. Kat Von D Entombed (P) is brighter. Clinique Massively Midnight (P, $17.00) is similar. Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #3 (P) is a touch lighter. Chanel Metamorphose (44) #4 (LE) is similar. Urban Decay Evidence (P, $18.00) is more shimmery. NARS Dark Rite (P, $24.00) is a cream product. Guerlain Les Ombres de Nuit #3 (LE) is a touch lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Make Up For Ever D104 Black Diamond Artist Shadow ($21.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, deep dark black with silver sparkle. It was incredibly rich in pigment–a little goes a very long way!–and the sparkle actually binds with the underlying color, so the majority of it applies to the lid and stays in place while worn. There is minor fall out but not really noticeable unless I went looking for it. The color lasted for eight and a half hours before showing signs of wear. Too Faced Starry Night (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly. Too Faced Pure Glam (LE, $16.00) is less sparkly. CoverGirl Molten Black (300) (P, $4.99) is cooler-toned. Sephora Collection Animal Instinct (01) (P, $13.00) is less sparkly. Urban Decay Oil Slick (P, $18.00) is less sparkly. MAC Jet Couture (P, $21.00) is warmer. MAC Cinderfella (P, $21.00) is similar. Lancome The New Black (P, $19.00) is similar. Chanel Mirifique (P, $36.00) is a cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Wow, these look incredibly pigmented!! Which is your favorite from this bunch Christine?
Hard to say. It’s a toss-up between S234 Azure Blue and D104 Black Diamond. Azure Blue is just really unique to me, and I love that it’s not matte but satiny — you don’t get a super shimmery finish BUT it is infinitely easier to work with than a matte teal (on average). But Black Diamond is so glitzy.
Beautiful look you created! That black is so pretty!
Thanks, Agata!
Absolutely gorgeous! The crystalline and celestial blue look like colors in the galaxy, perfect naming!
They are super pretty!
I love how you can carry off bolder blue and teal looks.. My pick out of these would be the crystalline mauve turquoise. It looks like an interesting layering shadow. I personally pass on the blues, just not me..but..these are definitely miles and miles above your typical Dior blue eyeshadow compact.. smirk.
All of the Crystalline XYZ are similar – that white-ish base with iridescent/duochrome-y shimmer, so you may like any of those. I think I have three of the ones they make.
Shame about Celestial Blue! But I almost don’t mind since I’ll use it more as a highlight/complement to the other blues (I’m thinking as a top layer in the center of the lid to add dimension to a look) so its sheerness isn’t too disappointing for me. Sapphire and Azure are just drop-dead stunning though. My palette FINALLY shipped out yesterday so hopefully it’ll arrive Monday or Tuesday. Impatient!
How does Azure compare to Sugarpill’s Afterparty? To my eye it seems more teal than Afterparty’s blue, but of course I’m living vicariously through your pics until mine arrives 😉 Blue is lovely on you!
Yeah, I’d say S234 Azure Blue is wayyyy greener/more teal than Afterparty (which is pretty much medium blue on me). 🙂
Celestial Blue is workable, at least. I don’t add points for being workable, LOL, but you can get it to be mostly opaque on the lid with a couple of layers.
Haha yes I would certainly not want you to add points for workability. Too individualized for sure. So excited for Azure Blue! Thanks for the comprehensive, dedicated reviews as always.
Beautiful look you created. These are looking just lovely!
Thanks, Megan!
I don’t like too frosty but I love the azure blue shade! thanks for sharing the swatches. stunning photos as always. <3
No problem! I love the satin finish of S234 Azure Blue.
Love the look, very underwater-y 😀 Azure and Sapphire are absolutely stunning shades.
Thank you!
Wow, that eye look! I’d love to see what a full face photo would look like.
Didn’t do a full look, sorry!
D200 Crystalline Mauve Turquoise and Azure Blue are my favourite!! Love love these two colour combinations!
I love S234 Azure Blue!
Azure Blue, Sapphire and Black Diamond are stunning!
Agreed!
Azure Blue, I need you. Sapphire looks beautiful too.
It has such a great finish!
I may need to pick up Black Diamond, especially as you say the glitter actually binds. I’ve never tried their shadows so this seems like a good opportunity! 🙂
It was such a nice surprise! 🙂
I bought the Sapphire I-220 e/s. It’s very pretty. I swatched but did not purchase the Black e/s. It’s very pigmented and glittery! Perfect for an evening look.
Have you worn I220 yet, Erica?
I was really hoping hear black diamond doesn’t have fall out, thank you so much for the review! I am always drawn to black/charcoal shadows with sparkle but either the glitter doesnt show up on my lids at all or it ends up on my cheeks shortly. I have at least 3-4 shadows like this that doesn’t get much use because they were disappointing.
It’s one of the best I’ve come by – it’s really a tie between Black Diamond and Chanel’s Mirifique. They both really keep the majority of the glitter on!
I adore Sapphire, Azure Blue and Black Diamond!
They’re all so vibrant!
Sapphire is quite nice. I like how it’s a little shimmery but not so much that you couldn’t wear it as liner with a more conservative look!
Very true, Erin!
Sapphire Blue is gorgeous, I’m swooning! Christine, the looks you can make are always so gorgeous!
Thank you, Carrie! xo
For a long time I looked for a black eyeshadow with sparkle (rich, deep, powder) without falling out (or with minimal falling out).
Thanks to your review, this is a dream come true for me, a dream to which I thought was an utopian idea.
Will also order Azure Blue.
My pleasure, Bottanica! 🙂
Its funny but I’ve never been a huge fan of blue eyeshadow as a rule but guess what – that rule has just been broken for me. I just luuurve the way you’ve done your eyes and could actually visualise it on me!!
Aww, thank you, Denise! 🙂 I hope you can try something like it!
I’m in love with the look you created! I have of the colors so I’m gonna attempt to do it. 🙂
Mine don’t turn out as good as yours.
I can’t get enough of these eyeshadow I just keep buying them. I fall in love with every color I swatch.
Thank you so much, Trina! ;D
The Crystalline Mauve Turquoise, would this be a good shadow to use if you wanted to place a darker shade over it and blend it out? Something close to the consistency of one of the lighter shades from the Tarte Be Mattenificent palette? I’m in search of a buttery white with a little pizazz to use with some of the darker shades in my collection.
Also, the way you apply and blend these shadows is stunning! I’m taking notes! 🙂
Hi Cat!
I think it could work, but I think it may be a little too frosty for that purpose – you might look for more of a satin/pearl finish instead!
Thanks for the suggestion! It’s difficult (for me) to tell how frosted a white shadow is by looking at a photo. Looks like I’m going to be making a trip to Sephora or MAC to do some swatching in the near future. =)
Beautiful look you did ! Black diamond is gorgeous!
I really appreciate how much of the sparkle actually STAYS with the eyeshadow.
Beautiful look dear.. I loved the black with super shimmery finish and those teals and bluess.. loving the Makeup Geek eyeshadowss.. <3
Thank you so much, Poo!
Crystalline Mauve Turquoise is quite lovely, I think. I also really like Black Diamond.
I’m not a fan of blue eyeshadows on me, but I find all the blues here pretty, I want a dress mad out of fabric the colour of Sapphire when it’s still in the pan. That is a rich blue.
Love your bold looks.
Thank you, Helene! 🙂
ooh the celestial blue looks so pretty, but the score makes me sad 🙁 Do you think it is still workable though?
I think it is workable!
What pretty blues. Sapphire and Black diamond are amazing.
I love how the sparkles adhere to the black base in Black Diamond!
A rare thing, for sure. I love sparkly blacks, but they all seem to leave something to be desired. Except this one, it looks like. 🙂
Ooh, love the sea/cloud nymph look! 😀
I see many pretty things here…many pretty things…
Thank you! 😀
