That looks like a very special shade! I can’t wait to see swatches. Viva Glam Rihanna 1 is one of my favorite lipsticks/lipglasses.

Dawn Marie Avatar

How long will this be available? I like this much better than the current ones that are out and I am really excited about that lipglass!

Mariella Avatar

My feeling exactly – let’s see some other actors or performers who care about the AIDS cause backing Viva Glam (and maybe forfeiting any remuneration for it….I hope this is one of those times when Rhianna takes no pay, no perks, etc. and even pays for her own driver; I used to work for a major charity many years ago and it so stuck in my craw that our “celebrity chair” one year demanded a stretch limo – paid by the charity – to be driven to the big launch event…this is one where the hotel donated services, florists did the same, etc. and this actor couldn’t stump up for his own car!) Okay….old grudge coming to the surface! Time to calm down, Mariella

Lotus Avatar

Oh I feel the same! I’m sickened and swearing!!! I’m like WTF… No way.. It is! Nooo., well I hope the true cause makes butt loads off of it! That’s fine, then. Cyndi Lauper made sense. This is bullsh*t. Plus it’s ANOTHER campaign!!!!! I’m physically sickened!!! MAC, please calm down!! >!<

Miss J Avatar

GaGa and Nicki Minaj both had two VG releases/campaigns, so it was to be expected that Rihanna would be doing it this year as well. I don’t see the big deal. *shrug*

Carrie Avatar

Because Rihanna is a love/hate figure, so those that hate her really don’t want to see a second release. But yeah, there’s totally precedent for a two releases. People need to relax.

xamyx Avatar

I can see why they’re using Rhianna again. For one, she likely has a long-term contract, which was probably decided by both sides it was in everyone’s best interest. Also, there is a broad appeal; even for those of us who don’t follow “mainstream” music, westill know who she is (even older people-I barely know who Lorde is, and who was the other girl with the mini “orange” collection…?). Rhianna has also gone on record, several times, stating she actually *wears* MAC, long before she had a collection. Besides, she’s gorgeous! Yes, there are *many* otherpeople who MAC can collaborate with, but there also more Viva Glam’s to come, I’m sure. Personally, I’d love to see Raven or Jujubee (from Drag Race fame) be the face, but there is still time! Another thing to factor in is availability-we don’t know if Rhianna was the first choice, or it was simply because she wasn’t locked into any other contracts/obligations.

I, for one, am neither a fan of Rhianna, nor MAC lip products, but I don’t think I can pass up these colors! Having been a long-time fan of RuPaul & Cyndi Lauper, I simply didn’t like the colors, so I passed. After all, it’s the color I’m after, not the spokesperson!

breyerchic04 Avatar

I love seeing wild colors like this, that are complex and unique. I probably can’t wear either one, but I hope that it works for someone and that they do. I’ll be looking forward to you trying it out, Christine. And maybe, if it looks possible I’ll grab it just because.

Mariella Avatar

MAC released another LE lippie a few years ago that quite honestly looked like dog poop in the tube but I saw it here and it was actually lovely, so I got it. Sadly, because it was a Glaze finish, the colour didn’t last at all long.

Mariella Avatar

ICK – does not look at all appealing. And as I keep saying (and they’re NOT listening) ENOUGH already with Rhianna. That’s one reason I like the new collection (Romance/whatever) – it’s not about some celebs I’ve either had enough of or who aren’t really all that big any more (though I would love to see some other singer or actor really get behind the Viva Glam cause) – and it (the new collection) is funny and a bit irreverent in its spoofing of that whole romance novel genre and the Jamie/Claire thing that is about to break (though I’m sure that without Diana Gabaldon’s approval, that is as close as MAC could get to making/suggesting the link).

Miss J Avatar

I can’t wait to see swatches! The gloss looks like it would be an easier pull off, but the lipstick could make for a layering/mixing shade.

xamyx Avatar

I think it’s more about “overall” coloring. I’m on the lighter end of the spectrum, but because I have dark hair & eyes, these shades work very well for me.

Veronica Avatar

Warm mauves absolutely do not work on me, but the lipglass sounds promising. I like that that Rihanna’s collections have both a warm and cooler toned option for fans of the Viva Glam line.

Wednesday Avatar

I do think she is a really gorgeous woman..as in completely stunning. I do not know her music or anything about her personally–so only want to comment from the perspective that I thought each year the VG campaign would feature a new ‘personality’. It’s rather disappointing to have the same rep..as beautiful as she is, but with so many amazing women to choose from on this planet, I have to agree, it would have been nice to see a fresh face.. And no, the green wig didn’t make it fresh. Yeah, I’m curious about the lipstick. At least that is very different from traditional MAC shades. I can applaud that…even if I love it or end up hating it 😀

Lizzi Avatar

MAC, enough with Rihanna!!! And I hear a rumor that Miley Cyrus was the next VG spokesperson. Stop it! Please hire in someone more respectable, enough is enough. We need a role model for this worthy cause.

xamyx Avatar

Miley Cyrus would be an *excellent* choice! She’s gorgeous, young, relevant, and those lips-who better to promote LIP PRODUCTS? Say what you will about her, but the girl os brilliant… I mean, we’re *still* talking about her!

Kira Avatar

I absolutely love these colors but I feel like I’d need to be younger and trendier to pull them off. And I am not at all tired of Rihanna, haha. MAC and Rihanna both know she insane selling power right now… her lines fly off the shelves! And isn’t that the best for the Viva Glam charity?

Jules Avatar

I don’t like her at all, but I’m happy to see an unusual color come to Viva Glam and this looks potentially very interesting. I’m curious to see how the swatches come out. Here’s hoping they’re not too sheer!

Amara Avatar

i think they look interesting and i feel like i would like the lip gloss better. as much as i’m into the color, i’m just kinda over rihanna. i like her music and i just am a fan of hers in general but someone else please!

Joanna Avatar

Though it might not seem like it based on the comments here, there is only one reason I could see why MAC goes back to Rihanna again- she sells a lot of lipstick. And when 100% of the proceeds go to AIDS charities, I’m not going to fault them for that.

Picking artists for these things can sometimes be a little tricky because so many of them have contracts with other companies- someone like Beyonce would be a no brainer, but she has a contract with L’Oreal. This wasn’t the case 15-20 years ago.

The campaign is gorgeous. The colour is unique- it certainly doesn’t look purple on Rihanna in the picture, more like a pewter or something. It might be a cool layering lipstick for those who want something a little different but aren’t sure they can pull it off.

Of course, all depends on swatches.

Hannah Avatar

You’ve made some very good points! I don’t understand all the hate here… especially the comments that put down Rihanna as a woman. Those sorts of comments are the antithesis of what MAC or the Viva Glam campaign want to be about!

I also am very interested in the color. Metallic lips have made a big comeback on the runway in the past couple of years, so I imagine this will be a more wearable and accessible way to get the look. I can’t wait to see swatches!

AbigailOD Avatar

I agree with you on Rihanna, because at the end of the day, it boils down to more sales, more donation. And my, that color looks gorgeous on her!

Kia Avatar

It’s gorg. She looks stunning and it’s an amazing charity the heart of the Mac aids fund. Too bad rihanna won’t wear it out in public and promote it like nicki minaj did. 100% of the selling cost goes to the Mac aids fund. What gets better than that

Lauren Avatar

I’m good with whichever person that MAC chooses for the Viva Glam stuff, since it all goes for a good cause. I’m just thrilled it’s not another red lipstick, lol. I’m reserving judgement on the shade until I see swatches, since these computer-generated pictures are never accurate. Doesn’t look mauve to me, though.

Amanda Avatar

I’m admittedly not super impressed by how the color looks as it is right now. But I might get more into it when I start seeing swatches? It’s not something I’d run out to buy.

Helene Avatar

I think both the lipstick and the gloss looks interesting. I know already that I will buy the gloss. I’m sure it’ll be a fun one to wear and it might be a wonderful one to layer. I hope the lipstick won’t be one that washes me out and make me look like an unfed zombie. Because I think I want it 🙂

Laura_Lou Avatar

Mac seriously need to give it a rest with Rihanna now. Surely she’s had her go and we can move on to someone else? Bored of keep seeing the same person on all the Viva Glams. Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga both had more than one VG as well. I just think that MAC should step up a bit and stop using the same people for multiple promos/campaigns. There are so many other amazing artists out there who would probably love to get involved with the VG campaign, please go find them! 🙁

zainab Avatar

I love the promo pic, but I didn’t even recognise Rihanna. I got her first Viva Glam and love it, but I’m not sure I could pull this one off, wait and see I guess. At least it’s a bit more appealing than the light violet Nicki Minaj one.

chris Avatar

The Viva Glam Campaign is about donating to those affected by AIDS/HIV. MAC is trying to make money and what better way – than to feature an artist who can make the most money. Nicki was just on the radio this morning, how many twitter, IG, FB followers to these women have? Millions. Their products sell out immediately. Who are the hot artists out there right now – who MAC could choose? Who don’t have a cosmetics contract? Very few. Both women are always on their grind. I wont buy the shade because at 47, it is not my cup of tea. But I won’t be pouring haterade.

Coco Avatar

I get why people are not liking the color, but I think it looks gorgeous on Rihanna and will look beautiful on people with similar complexions. I’m glad they did something different. I want to see swatches to see if it’s something I would like on myself.

Emily Avatar

I think if I end up getting anything it’ll be the lipglass and probably a pass on the lipstick. MAC just opened a store in my state recently so I’ll have to go down around the time this will launch in stores and see it for myself.

Bianca Avatar

I kind of really love this.. But it’s tough to know exactly what it looks like.
Christine, will you be getting them to swatch and review anytime soon?

Karla Avatar

OMG!!! I love it.. I can’t wait to get my hands on this lipstick… Rihanna looks stunning on that picture … My favorite so far from her collections with Mac is Pleasure Bomb.. so let’s see how much I love this one… i can’t hardly wait… thanks Temptalia for always keeping informe of everthing that is coming out.. my poor wallet… lol.. =)

ruthless Avatar

These shades look interesting, it’s nice to see MAC releasing something that is going to look spectacular on WOC. If you’re light skinned this may be too vampy, I dunno.

Stephanie K. Avatar

Rihanna “Again”? … hmmmm! Would love to see others like… Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, just to name a few! Maybe someone can mention these amazingly beautiful women to Mac!!!!

Kiki Avatar

I actually did a swatch of both lipstick and lipgloss for riri new collections the color is like no other beautiful the gloss incredible.. Iam getting two of each for sure
