MAC To the Beach Look: Humid, Shimmermoss, and "Sweet & Punchy"
MAC To the Beach Look: Humid, Shimmermoss, and “Sweet & Punchy”
If you’ve been collecting MAC for years, you and I both know that we own near-dupes of coming attractions, no matter how pretty the newest, shiniest thing may look. Since MAC To the Beach is out in the UK already, I thought I’d try a look using some of the products from the faux peek earlier this week. I used True Chartreuse as a base with Lucky Green eyeshadow layered over it to fake “Sweet & Punchy,” so if you have your To the Beach goodies, try using that on the lid instead 🙂
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot (neutral beige base), MAC True Chartreuse Pigment (matte chartreuse), MAC Water-Based Mixing Medium (glue-based adhesive), MAC Lucky Green Eyeshadow (yellowed, shimmery green), MAC Humid Eyeshadow (dark green), MAC Shimmermoss Eyeshadow (teal), MAC Nylon Eyeshadow (champagne gold highlighter), Make Up For Ever #7L Aqua Eyes Liner (electric blue), MAC Gorgeous Gold Eyeshadow (green-toned gold), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
- Cheeks: MAC Sun Rush Lustre Drops (peach-gold liquid highlighter), MAC Hipness Blush (coral pink)
- Lips: MAC Thrills Lipstick (copper rose), MAC Sugar Overload Superglass (nude with flaky glitter)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Sun Rush = Strobe Cream (not a dupe, but similar); Hipness = Benefit Coralista; Thrills = Lane + Fetish; Sugar Overload = Bare Necessity
For eyes, start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. With the 239 and water-based mixing medium (or water), apply True Chartreuse pigment all over the lid area. Using the 239, apply Lucky Greeneyeshadow on the lower lid. Next, apply Humid eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending outwards and upwards to fade to the brow bone. With the 239, apply Shimmermoss eyeshadow into the crease directly and then blended towards the outer corner and lid. Blend Nylon eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #7L eyeliner on the lower lash line and Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow lightly patted below the lower lash line with the 219 brush. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply Sun Rush lustre drops on the apples and upper cheekbones. Then, apply Hipness blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Thrills lipstick first, and then layer Sugar Overload superglass for a complementing lip.
the colours of the Brazilian Flag… the result is amazing!!! I may try one day… thnx for the tips
Thanks, Fernanda! You should try!
Gawgeous, Christine. You have THE most perfectly shaped mouth in the Universe! Those LIPS! GAH! I’m so jealous!
Thank you, Melissa!
LOL!
This is really pretty and your hair looks gorgeous!
Thanks, Darrien!
This is SO pretty! There wasn’t too much, if anything, I wanted from this collection, but I’ll definitely have to rethink my stance, lol. Thrills lipstick didn’t excite me in the tube, but it looks really good on! Thanks for another great look. 🙂
Thanks so much, Cynthia! 🙂 At least Humid & Shimmermoss are perm!
LOVE IT!!!!
Thank you!
How does sweet and punchy compare to sharp from the tempting quad Christine?
I don’t have it at this time, sorry!
beautiful look 🙂 do you think there is a dupe for hipness blush in the permenant line?
Thanks, Anna! Nah, not by MAC.
That combination of lipstick and lipgloss looks fab! Now I’m going to have to buy that lipgloss, aren’t I?
Aww, you could use any shimmering nude, IMO 🙂
So pretty and I think you duped Sweet&Punchy quite well. We got this collection on May 3rd in Finland so I already bought Firecracker and Sweet&Punchy and love love love both of them. As soon as I get my paycheck, I’ll go back for Marine Life 🙂 Lippies were too frosty on me (I prefer Pret-a-papier lippies) but I think they’ll be great peachy shades for cooler toned girls.
Sweet&Punchy looks so good with Humid, I tried the look of the Sweet&Punchy facechart (http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/looks/look.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT27562) the other day and loved it.
Thanks, Heli! 🙂 It kind of looks like a more chartreuse version of Lucky Green, but it’ll be nice to have it when it does come out!
love it
Thanks, Jaspreet!
Christine, you’re the prettiest ^_^
Aw, thanks Sara!
looks very summery! nice lip combo…i’m surprised the sparkle doesn’t show up more – is it just the photos or the same irl?
The lip combo has plenty o’ sparkle, but like a lot of glitter stuff, it’s something that’s better in motion, as it catches the light, vs. a still photo in terms of showing off the sparkle!
I’ve got some things from To The Beach already, including Hipness blush (LOVE IT) and Thrills lipstick (LOVE IT). I also got Love Nectar lustreglass as it was displayed with Pret-A-Papier (instead of C-Thru) which would look great on top of Thrills I think. I’ve got Shimmermoss, but not Humid (I do have One-Off from Love That Look though) and I’m not that keen on Sweet & Punchy, I probably wouldn’t wear such a bright look myslef. Having said that, I love this look on you, looks great as usual. 🙂
Thanks, Anita 🙂
GORGEOUS! when you do the “look” posts, i’d love to see a pic with the lipstick before you put on the lip gloss. it would be really helpful. when i’m loving the lip look, i am often not sure if it’s the lipstick that i need to buy or the lipgloss. just my thoughts… thanks for all your hard work. i love your blog 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion, Paulina!
love this look and I love your hair Christine!
Thanks a lot, Kiki!
christine you are so talented I love your posts and you blend really well can I ask if you would do a depotting video or post of how you depot your mac eyeshadows?
Thanx x
I will try, Houda!
very pretty!!!! you can always carry a bright look and not look so “over”!!!! 🙂
Thank you, Malen!
My goodness, seeing this combo really gives a good preview of how the colours in the collection looks together. LOVE IT!
Thanks, Jennise!
Christine, why do you do this to me? I had written off the lustre drops, hipness, and thrills but now I must have them. You look amazing. I love that lip combo, but it’s STILL not enough to make me touch that nasty superglass.
Do you think Marine Life is worth having if I get the Sun Rush drops, hipness and I already have Instant Chic? Please say NO! LOL
LOL!
To be honest, I’d grab Marine Life and sit on it. It will sell out. Like I anticipate it going before it’s online for more than 24 hours.
That lip combo is amazing!
By the way you’ve convinced me to get Thrills when To The Beach comes out. I wasn’t even considering it till I saw how gorgeous it was in your lip swatch.
Thank you, Emily!
really pretty, especially the lip color. Your hair is so long now! are you going to cut it for summer or let it grow?!
Thanks, Nicci! I need to get it trimmed and layered, but I don’t plan on cutting any more length off than necessary!
That is probably one of the prettiest lip combo’s I have seen on you
Gorgeous!
Thanks, Maddie!
This is for sure one of my fave looks you created. Now i’m thinking of getting the eyeshadows from this collection. Also, thrills lipstick looks nice.
Sorry Christine, just an off topic here i was just wondering what camera are you using to make this beautiful shots? Are you in a studio or you have those professional lenses? Thanks.
Hi Ellie,
I use a Nikon D90 🙂 No studio or anything, lol! I am quite the amateur — I don’t even feel like I can say that!
Thanks Chrisitine. I’m just amazed how beautiful you take your photos. It’s very clear. You’re like a pro.
Aw, thanks Ellie!
Loving the lip combo! So gorgeous on you!
Thank ya, Pinch!
You look so pretty, Christine!
I love how Sweet and Punchy looks, but I’m more of a brown eyeshadow kind of girl and not sure how I’d be able to use it… maybe as liner? lol
Thanks a lot, Wendy! 🙂 Aw, you could totally wear it with browns if you wanted – maybe a little splash of Sweet and Punch on the inner lid?
I love this look! Your hair looks so pretty right now! 🙂
Thanks, Elizabeth 😀 I am loving the length of it!
i really love that look!
Thank you, Josi!
The lips in this look are to die for!
Thanks, Sarah!
I am so excited to see this bright fun look :). I end student teaching Friday and go back to work on Monday so I’ll be able to wear funky looks again :)! I’m super excited to start trying out your more daring looks again.
🙂 I’m glad you liked it, Rosie!!
Your hair looks fab!! You should keep your hair long 🙂
I plan on it! 🙂 Thank you!
just wondering is the color by nars “rated R” a dupe for sweet and punchy? Im just thinking I know I have something just like this already but not sure. What do you think?
Rated R is probably a fair bit greener and lacks the shimmery/sheen of Sweet & Punchy. If you rarely wear Rated R, though, then I don’t think you’d wear Sweet & Punchy much more!
Gorgeous look! Love the gold sheen of the lip gloss!
