Had been wondering when and if MAC would get into the HD “bandwagon” like MUFE, Cargo, and Smashbox. Very happy to see that they did! Can’t wait to try their products which, hopefully, will be permanent…

Ms Trendy Avatar

Unless they are changing the formulation of these products they are all available in the permanent collection … nothing new except the lipsticks.

Like many already said above, this collection seems very lame on MAC’s part. Other than the lipsticks, everything else is already available at MAC as its permanent & none of it has ever been touted as HD before. Considering all the serious competition out there w/ regards to makeup brands & their HD lines (MUFE for ex.), MAC is going to have to do a lot better than this. Hopefully as time goes on, they will release more details as to what makes this line HD. Should be interesting…

Ummmmmmm this collection seems really boring. And it is confusing. Why would they promote permanent items? This is the dullest of all the Fall collections.

Actually, it’s technically not a collection for fall…it’ll only be available at MAC Pro and it’s not that they are “jumping” on the bandwagon, as much as, they are repromoting products that are HD friendly already in order to prepare the general public for HD makeup-in case they will ever be dealing with HD tv. I just got back from update yesterday and this HD thing is changing entertainment industry makeup as much as it did when it went from black and white to color.

Diamonds Avatar

That’s actually really interesting. My dad directs movies so I know a lot of makeup artists…I guess I can ask them about what they prefer for HD shoots. Anyways I suppose I said “fall” collection because I’m in the UK for a couple years and internationally it is released in October. Thanks for the info 😀

High Def … I’m looking for a coral and this seems to be the right colour :p but otherwise, I don’t see the point of the collection

I totally agree miss anna. MAC is just churning out the collections one after the other, but at the same time I am noticing the quality of their stuff declining over the past couple years. MAC is not what it was years ago. I sure hope they start taking note & work to get back to the way they once were.

WoW. Just read all of the comments thus far and unfortunately, I must agree: This collection doesn’t make sense. The only justification I can gather by the listing of these products as HD is that in functionality, f/b foundation is sheer yet very buildable and when coupled with an MSF Natural (which already looks great on photographs)they are comparable to the truest application of a flawless complexion for an HDTV format which is airbrush. The HD formulations from other lines, IMO, are somewhat cakey and slightly cloudy especially when the translucent (white) powder is applied and although it’s white, it doesn’t look good on EVERY SKIN TONE, even caucasian skin.

I’m hoping with this just being the preliminary information for this collection that more will be shared in regards to a possible change of the F/B foundation as I think that will be key.

THis is what the collection is supposed to be about. When anything on it says HD all that means is that the powder or the pigments in the liquid is JET MILLED. All of the products for mac that are being repromoted in this is supposed to give you an idea of what really fits for HD cameras. Studio fix fluid is NOT HD ready. It looks like thick paste on the skin in an HD camera. When you go for an HD look the point is SERIOUSLY to go as natural as you can because anything with too much coverage is going to show up textured and fake. You dont want to use anything too matte either. you want it to be:

A- Sheer coverage for all over and concealer JUST in the places you need
B- somewhere around a satin natural finish. i.e. mineralize or face and body. even the tinted moisturizers coming out.

Things to watch out when doing HD photos:

Hair. The tiniest bit of peach fuzz can be shown. If your doing a photo shoot under an HD camera then you NEED to get rid of the hair. ALl of it. No matter what it will show.

Color: especially Reds. YOu want to use warmer tones when dealing with red lips. Almost anything with blue undertones will come out looking BRIGHT fuschia. So ideal lipsticks are what go with this collection. Of ideal reds would be russian red, dubonnet, viva glam 1, and lady bug.

Coverage: this is super important. primers dont matter much, you can build those on. but the more coverage you have on the more you’ll be able to tell. The no makeup-makeup look is the absolute best way to go.

Texture: if you have large pores you can try using a matte cream ON TOP of your foundation as well as under. do this by building just thin layers on top of eachother. EXFOLIATE! if you have dry skin and dont moisturize, holy hell is it going to show up. your skin will look like frosted flakes.

Stay away from anything frosty unless thats what your going for. because on HD it will look super super wet. now this is all goin towards natural looks. if you want crazy then by all means, x out everything i just said.

Anyways, the point of these products is to show you looks that ARE HD ready. Somepeople dont have to worry anyways, seeing as half the people arent going to be stepping behind HD cameras. Just because it doesnt say HD on it doesnt mean its not compatible for it.

Face and Body foundation is a DREAM

Arielle Avatar

I have to agree with u Celeste! MAC, of all product lines cant be left to bring up the rear with no HD products. The line doesn’t seem cohesive but wait until you see the difference it makes on camara. Hopefully MAC will have the goods sense to show comparisons.

Jacquelyn Avatar

For those who don’t understand why MAC has this collection is because MAC is revisiting the Face and Body foundation as well as the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. Also, this collection will be available in stores only and Asia will not get this collection.

Michelle Avatar

Why is it that MAC puts items in there new collections that are either available in the permanent line or were Limited Edition not that long ago!! I would love it if they would bring colors and items back that were released a few YEARS ago, something we haven’t seen in awhile then that would be something to be excited about!

this may be my chance to finally try the face and body… have u tried it?… i’ve just kept putting it off since i’m satisfied with my studio fix foundation… and now the temptation to maybe just having it!
