Looks - Incredibly Soft, Pale Yellow and Brown

I think brushes are essential to good makeup, but expensive brushes are NOT essential to good makeup. I used a cheap random brush I found at my boyfriend’s mom’s house (of all things I forgot, I forgot my 239!) to apply this look. It didn’t go on as pigmented, perhaps, as it would have with the 239, but I got a lovely soft look that worked just as well. Even though the brush was cheap (and it wasn’t even really the right brush to use for shadow application, LOL), it felt relatively soft and worked out. So, moral of the story? Quality brushes can be found to fit any budget.

I used Soft Ochre paint pot on lid, Goin’ Bananas eyeshadow (LE) on inner lid, Evening Aura eyeshadow (LE) on middle of lid, Espresso eyeshadow on outer lid and crease, Femme-fi eyeshadow (LE) to highlight brow, Graphblack technakohl on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. I had Suncentered Color Forms powder (LE) on cheeks. I wore Tropic Glow slimshine (LE) with Nymphette lipglass on my lips.

** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available — may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!

Goin’ Bananas = Bright Sunshine; Evening Aura = Goldmine + Orange; Femme-fi = Shroom; Suncentered = Cantaloupe; Tropic Glow = Lovelorn

MAC used to make this great eyeshadow that was a pale, matte butter yellow colour, like Soft Ochre but in powder form. Anyways, the yellow in your look reminds me of it!

Also, never ever underestimate the sponge-tip applicator.
If you need to pack on color, they’ll do you better than any brush, no matter how expensive the brush is.

The black on the waterline is really harsh against the softness of the rest of the look, and it closes up your eye some as well. I think a brown or a shimmery gunmetal grey along the lower lashline would have been more flattering with this look.

Other than that, though, this look works well. Suncentred gives you a lovely glow.

Christine, your eyebrows are looking faaaaab! This is one of my favourite lip combos on you so far. Nymphette lipglass is SO flattering on you!

Great eye makeup, so bare, I’ll try it! But I can may give you a little rec.; you always use golden hed pink lipstick or all pink lipstick – try brights or nudes, I am sure they will look good on you!

Hi Kayra,

I actually wear all kinds of lipsticks, I’m not sure if maybe you’re a new reader or not – because I definitely bust out hot pinks and nudes and reds from time to time. I do more bold eye looks, so I don’t wear bright lips as often, though.

Hi Christine!

I just HAVE to ask: You line your bottom lid soo well, and truth be told I sort of suck at it and have to go back and touch up with a q-tip or try and work a smokey eye. I never get a clean line like you… What is you secret? Do you hold your lid while lining?

For this reason I hardly ever line the bottom, but somehow I can do the most perfect line or cat eye on top with no effort in like 2 sec.

I thought maybe it was your types of pencils… So I went out and bought Feline and Graphblack (which you seem to use a lot) but to no avail!

I would really appreciate some tips so I can keep trying to work at it!

Thanks again,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca! I don’t really hold my lid or anything! Maybe you want to try warming up your eyeliner — maybe it’s too stiff which is why it doesn’t just give you the clean line you want.

But really, I don’t do anything special, LOL. I wish I had a secret to share!
