Look: White Gold & Teal with MAC Mystic Cool Eyeshadow Palette

I wanted to try and do a look that used some of MAC’s new holiday palettes, and of course, I really wanted to use Hold My Gaze from the Sorceress palette. As much as I like Hold My Gaze, I don’t really love it with the other shades in the palette, so I decided to use it alongside the Mystic Cool palette instead. And you know me, I have to try and incorporate as many new goodies as possible — so I used this look to road-test Smashbox’s Wish Eyeliner (which I just reviewed below–loved it, by the way) and paired it with some holiday lips by Guerlain.

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Cool Incantation eyeshadow (pale white-gold), Hold My Gaze eyeshadow (dirty sage green with gold), Blue Enchantment eyeshadow (frosty teal), Bottle Green eyeshadow (matte dark teal-green), Smashbox Wish Eyeliner (dark teal-green), Zoom Fast Black Lash mascara (black)
  • Face:  Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer
  • Cheeks: Enough Said blush (bronzy), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
  • Lips: Guerlain Gems Rouge G Lipstick (pink coral), Guerlain Perle de Lune KissKiss Gloss (shimmery pearly white)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Cool Incantation = Nylon, Hold My Gaze = Flourishing + Goldmine; Blue Enchantment = Shimmermoss; Enough Said = bronzer

Directions: Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, pack Cool Incantation eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Hold My Gaze eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease with Blue Enchantment eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Bottle Green eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Cool Incantation eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Smashbox Wish Eyeliner on lower lash line. Apply Zoom Fast Black Lash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Guerlain Gems Rouge G lipstick to lips, and then top with Guerlain Perle de Lune KissKiss Gloss for color and shine.

This is really pretty! I’m planning on purchasing these two palettes anyway, so will be able to recreate this look. Also want to get the Guerlain lipstick and gloss, they’re so pretty.

Christine,you need a a slightly pink-coral blush here.(MAC Springsheen can do even better,IMHO)
The bronzy blush breaks up the whole look and draws the attention from the beauty of the lipstick and delicateness of the eyeshadow combo.

This looks so beautifull on you Christine! I love the Guerlain lipstick (I´m addicted to coral lipsticks), any suggestions on a substitute of MAC to the Guerlain lipgloss you are wearing?

Hey Christine!
I have a quick question. I have a lipglass that I bought from the rose romance collection and it’s about gone. The problem is it’s starting to smell a little like plastic lol. Does this mean it’s not good anymore? Thanks a bunch!!

I love this look! I’m actually wow-ed with your lips. I wasn’t sure about purchasing the new lipstick and gloss since the lipstick is expensive and the gloss is just shimmer. It’s so pretty together! I think I’m off to Saks tomorrow!! This will be my very first Rouge G lipstick!! Which Rouge G lipcolors do you recommend getting? Thanks Christine!

Thanks a lot, Melissa! Aww!! Let me know if you splurge — I hope you adore! Gems and Giovanna (which was limited edition with fall, not sure if it’s still available) are two of my favorites. The line is really great, and I think it’s all about finding those few that you just *love.*

Ummmm I think I need that lipstick but I soooo can’t afford it. I don’t ever get crazy like this about ultra-high end expensive products but omg, the color is made for me!

I love how you put Cool Incantation on the lower lash line here. It contrasts nicely with the Smashbox liner and just wakes up your eyes. I’ve gotten into putting light and bright shadow colors on my lower lash line – it’s just got such a brightening effect! Concealer never works well enough for me so I can distract from my ill-covered dark circles with a pop of Gorgeous Gold or Phloof! 🙂

That’s how I feel about some shades, too, Daphne! And pretty much any shade that’s like Gems, I’m all over and feel like it’s the greatest thing ever, LOL.

Thanks so much, Daphne! 🙂 I love, love to wear shadow on the lower lash line, too!

Very pretty Christine! I glanced at this palette but chose the Devil May Care palette instead. After seeing this look, I may have to pick up the Mystic Cool palette as well:-D

Wow ! You look gorgeous 🙂 And unbelievably smooth skin:)
With my blond hair and ivory skin I’ll never look as good as you in this type of makeup.

Christine,
This look is not one of your best, sorry to say. Your eyes look just too white/light in the photo. the lipstick looks fab, though. Hope you don’t mind my review of this.

Christine, i’ve seen a few of your swatches, demos, and reviews. Have you ever tried using a matte color in your crease instead of wearing almost ALL shimmery colors? i read that you used one matte color with this particular look, but it doesn’t look like there’s anything matte anywhere. It kind of looks like a make-up a teen would wear going to prom.

Christine Avatar

Hi Josephine,

Have you looked at the archive of 400+ looks? I definitely use matte shades from time to time (I actually have two 15-pan palettes dedicated solely to housing matte shades). In this particular look, I was shooting to only use the new products (and lately, this is often the case with my looks), because the whole point is to build a look using just that one piece of the new shades, since readers often request such looks.

I do think it is a bit harsh to say it “looks like a make-up a teen would wear going to prom,” because I think it really alienates both me and readers who do like shimmers and frosts–who aren’t 19 and under. Makeup isn’t about rules, it’s about creativity and doing what you like and makes you feel good. To really put those kinds of age restrictions and limitations on it really takes away the fun and ability to create without boundaries.

I completely understand what you mean, and mixing textures, like mattes, can add dimension and depth to a look. I’m not trying to take away from that as a technique, but I was sincerely taken aback at your statement.

How about a step by step in apply your eyeshadow. I have 16 colors and when I went to the store, the salespeople tried but they were too busy to explain. Good for your business but not good for me. So…Step 1: Upper lid (demonstrate) with a color Step 2: Crease with a color, etc. etc. etc.

I’m trying to find the smashbox wish eyeliner you used on this look. Can you tell me if it is availabe to buy alone or is it part of a palette or kit.

Thanks!
