Look: Urban Decay Black Palette
Look: Urban Decay Black Palette
Can you tell that I used four eyeshadows in this look? If you can, you earn a merit badge for excellent, discerning sight! Despite looking and even swatching relatively distinctively, when used, the eyeshadows look rather similar. Just kind of looks like an all-black smoky eye to me! Review to follow shortly. This was a really quick look really just done to test out just how much color would show through when used in practice.
I added all that glitter to give this look more va-voom… it was just rather one-note beforehand. I will say that Distortion over Deviant is stunning–more so in person as the glitter flashes.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Urban Decay Eden Primer Potion (matte beige base), Urban Decay Cobra Eyeshadow (black with antique gold), Urban Decay Libertine Eyeshadow (black with green), Urban Decay Black Dog Eyeshadow (matte black), Burberry Trench Eyeshadow (highlighter), Urban Decay Deviant 24/7 Liner (medium blue), Urban Decay Distortion Glitter Liner (iridescent), Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (black)
- Face: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (140), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
- Cheeks: MAC Desert Rose Blush (muted pink)
- Lips: MAC Liquid Lurex Lipstick (iridescent antique gold glitter), MAC Pink Poodle Lipglass (bright pink)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Liquid Lurex = Tanarama
For eyes, start by applying Eden as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Cobra eyeshadow on the lower half of the lid and pat on horizontally. Lightly blend Libertine eyeshadow on upper half of the lid, patting lightly, all the way across with the 239. Next, apply Black Dog eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend Trench eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Deviant liner on the lower lash line, then lightly pat on Distortion glitter liner on top. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara, and then use Distortion glitter liner brushed onto lashes.
For cheeks, apply Desert Rose blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Liquid Lurex lipstick first, and then layer Pink Poodle lipglass for a complementing lip.
I love it!
Thank you, Jennifer!
Mine is waiting for me at home and I can’t wait to experiment. I had figured this palette might work better with colours since they were all black with glitter that was coloured. I did pick out the gold and green but didn’t noticed the “seperation” till I saw your eye closed. I still think it looks fabulous and will be perfect for girls that like darker colours or rocker chicks looking for good quality concert going makeup looks. Can’t wait to read your review girl! 😀
I think if you do wear a lot of black, it can be fun, but definitely use a stickier/tackier base so that the glitter (which is really what makes it more colorful) doesn’t disappear!
Wow, it looks like just 2 shadows. I’ve never been able to get into UD palettes. The one I did buy, I promptly returned. I like the color you chose for a liner and the look is nice.
Which one did you buy & return?
oh this is so hot
tell me i dont need the black palette
but i really really want it
Thanks, Liz!
You don’t! Just use a black base and overlay it with shimmer 🙂
Gorgeous look!
Thanks so much, Benthe!
oh what a lovely look !
it is the first time I see a glitter liner used elegantly !
very wintery-evening look
lovvve it <3
Thank you, Hend! 🙂
I just got my Black Palette in the mail today!! I used Cobra with Maui Wowie. Those two go together PERFECTLY! You gotta try it! 🙂
Love this look too!
Sounds pretty, lol, but I would be worried about the fall out. Love Maui Wowie’s color, hate all the fall out.
This look is totally me. I can’t wait to get this palette. Love.
Thanks, Sass!
Not really a win for Urban Decay, is it? “Here’s 6 shades of black, have fun!”
PS: I bought Chanel Inimitable Intense as an impulse after reading your review (last day of 30% off!) and I absolutely LOOOOOOVEEEEE it! I’m always skeptical about high-end mascaras but I’m OVER the moon about this one. I already got a friend of mine to get it too (and she likes it too!)! Thank you 🙂
*on impulse. LOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEE.
30% off woo woo!!
But I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you love it. YAY!!!
I can see two shades besides your highlighter, but otherwise its really hard to tell the difference in the shadows
Yup!
love it really pretty:)!!!
Thank you, Traci 🙂
the lipgloss is definitely popping in this look!
Thanks, Elle!
Amazing look 🙂 love it!
Thank ya, Urska!
I love the pop of blue! So beautiful.
Thank you, Leah!
Love the look! I love urban decay and the colors are pretty but they do look the same in this palette..think I will pass on this one. Still waiting on BOS 3…
Thanks so much, Stacey! 🙂
Love the lip colour, and what you’ve done under the eyes.
Not so sure about the black palette, though. I’d been looking at the palette online earlier and thought what lovely colours they were, but if they all look black in use, then I don’t think I’ll bother with it.
Thanks a lot, Dawn! 🙂
Christine,
This is not the most ideal way to ask but I could not find an email address. In the most recent Pixiwoo youtube video (the mascara challenge video), Sam and Nic alluded to Mac discontinuing the Back to Mac program soon. Have you heard of this? Could you investigate and let us know if it’s true?
Thanks so much.
I haven’t heard anything about it. I don’t follow Pixwoo, but I think they are from the UK? If so, then what happens there may be different here in the U.S.
those liners ARE great!!!! too bad everything else all looks the same =/ LOVE your lip color though!! can’t wait for your full review; i find them so helpful! i never get a product without checking you review on it first, hehe ^_^
Thank you, Carolanne!!
That’s really pretty, but I’m honestly amazed you used all the blacks in a look! I saw the palette come online at sephora and said “YUCK! A palette of ONLY blacks?! Whats the POINT?!”
I own Carbon, and Zero(matte black, and slightly frosty black) and I rarely touch either.
There really ISN’T a visible difference between most of it in that eye, although I DO like the glitter. LOVE the lips though!
I can’t wait to see your review of the palette!
They look SO different in the palette – like each looks quite different from the next, but not so much on.
It’s really weird they aren’t discernible when used together. I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting this palette, although I’ll probably still play with it a little at Sephora when I see it in-stores. (If they’ll even get it in-stores. If not, well…I’ll be more than happy with my Naked palette and BOS.)
That reminds me: I don’t know how many people who care are going to read this, but if you’re in the southern/eastern suburbs of Chicago and you can’t find the Naked Palette anywhere and are willing to drive a ways to get it, they’ve got SEVERAL at my local Sephora Inside JC Penney in Valparaiso, Indiana. I saw them and knew a pang of sadness for those living without it.
As far as I know, it’s just available online, but that could change!
I love the look, great with that blue eyeliner!
Thank you, Desiree!
I love the eyeliner and lips but on the lid the 4 shadows do just merge into black =(
Indeed!
Thanks, Charlotte!
Well, the lip color is pretty
Thanks, Lola!
OMG! I’m stunned – I love the detail in these pictures you look beautiful!
Thank you, Annabella!
I can’t spot 4 eyeshadows, 3 at most, lol. I got the palette on Saturday because the shades looked so pretty in the pan, now I’m waiting for my Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy primer (as recommended by Lipglossiping) to use them. Apparently the shimmer really shows up with that underneath, more so than the Eden primer.
Love the lips though, why do I not own Pink Poodle lipglass?????
Let me know how it goes! They worked best for me over a colored base!
another amazing look! wow!!
Thanks, Sofia!
off topic but have you anything on the MAC Pro Longwear Collection out thursday? esp. the new concealer?
I haven’t received any official information, sorry! If I did, I would post straight away!
LOVE it! The blue liner really makes your brown eyes pop!
Thank you, Kristen!
wow I just noticed that your eyes has such an interesting pattern, like little loops around the edges…XD
Haha, yes, yes they do!
I am very disappointed with the black palette! 🙁
I’m also not a fan of all black smokey eye! Lol.
Aw! I loveeee the all black smoky eye – but my fave is with Blacktrack as a base, Carbon on top, and Vex in the crease. SEXY!
Love the look! I can´t pull it off, but I´d love to.
By the way, your eye is gorgeous (I can really see only one, ha)! 😀
Kisses from Argentina! 😉
Thank you, Laura 🙂
ooh i think it is pretty!
Thanks a lot, Perri!
WOW that’s HOT. I’m soooo copying this
Thanks, Tania! 🙂
I just LOVE this look; it is so beautiful and striking. But you’d never know there were four shadows in there!
Thank you, Maria!
