Look - Smokey Eyes in Silver & Gray
Easy-peasy smoky eye đ I consider this the “traditional” smoky eye, since I’ve always thought of a smoky eye as silver/gray. Video tutorial for this coming soon, too!
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Electra eyeshadow (bright silver), Silver Ring eyeshadow (dark silver), Typographic eyeshadow (matte dark gray), Carbon eyeshadow (matte black), Blanc Type eyeshadow (soft white-beige), Blacktrack fluidline (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Enough Said blush (bronze), Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer (bronzy highlighter)
- Lips: Honeyflower lipstick (pinky-nude), Nymphette lipglass (pinky-beige)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. On the inner lid, pack Electra eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Silver Ring eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease and outer lid with Typographic eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Carbon eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Blanc Type eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Blacktrack fluidline on lower lash line and upper lash line using the 208. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Amber Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Honeyflower lipstick to lips, and then top with Nymphette lipglass for color and shine.

Absolutely gorgeous!!!!
Thanks, Lina!
Very nice look! I’m a sucker for any black/silver/gold make up. That’s what I prefer to do on me.
Is the silver on your upper lid a little warm or is that my screen?
Thanks so much, Diabla! đ Hmm, it isn’t warm on mine, though not super cool.
I agree that silvery gray is the original smokey eye. I hate it when people say that taupey browns are smokey eyes!!!
Haha!
Thank you so much đ I think you can do any colors into a smoky eye, but the classic will always be gray/silver to me!
That’s beautiful and seemingly simplistic. I will have to try. You can put fluidline on your waterline??? I was always afraid.
Thanks, Emm! Yep, I do!
Very pretty as always! đ
Thanks so much, Jenn!
I think i might try recreating this for a dinner date i have thursday night đ
You should! If you do, let me know how it goes! Have fun on your date đ
this look is just amazing you look lovely as always xx
Thanks a lot, Binnie!
The perfect smokey eye. I agree with you, silver and black are the way to go when doing a smokey eye đ
Thank you so much, Roxanne! Happy you liked it!
hey great look….u look awesome. I have one question about contouring. Is it a must to use a bronzer for contouring or can it be a dark shade of blush. Also if bronzer is being used then should it be shimmery or matte?? thanks in advance…Great website keep up the great work…:)
Thanks so much, Tehreem! đ
I don’t think you have to use a bronzer or not. I don’t use bronzer — I use Sculpt sculpting powder by MAC, but before then, I used Emote blush. I prefer matte myself đ
i love doing this look,
so classy
Me too!
Love it Christine! Gorgeous as always!
Thanks, Jaime! đ
Perfect…. this is totally me!
Thanks đ
Gorgeous look Christine! I love smoky silver grey eyes. You’re eye colour is awesome BTW, you have these weird leopard spots which are really unique! (In a good way, don’t get me wrong) đ
Thank you so much, Marce đ
Thanks so much, Marce! đ
Haha, yep! I *never* knew I did until I started posting close-ups of my eyes online and people told me! I went 18 years and had not a clue.
This is gorgeous! Love the colors. I love to do smokey eyes with browns, purples, etc — but the silver/grey is a clasic.
Thank you so much, MichelleB! I love doing all sorts of colored smoky eyes, too!
Err.. Did you just get tanned or is it my computer? đ Looks fab as always.
LOL! Nope, not really tanned… maybe a little from vacation, but I didn’t spend *that* much time outdoors. Then again, I tan in a nanosecond. I could be slathered in SPF 70 and tan in 15 minutes.
Aw I am so jealous! I only ‘burn’t, not tan. You look really healty and ‘tanned’ lol.
lol! I have yet to get a sunburn (knock on wood!). I used to be really pale, sallow, yellow skin. I moved to California when I was 4 or 5 years old, and I swear, one summer here? Perpetually tanned. Of course, now I am tanned and glowy-tan, but my skin color darkened up SO much.
Gorgeous! I love smokey silvery-grey eye make-up! It’s been a while since I’ve done a smoky silvery-grey eye look, so will have to try it again soon.
Thanks, Saira! It’s been awhile for me, too!
This is beautiful, as always!
Thank you so much, Gio đ
I really love the skin and lips! Gorrrrgeous on you.
Thank you SO much, Kella! đ Means a lot!
I am really loving this smokey eye look. And it’s so simple! I have all of those shadows! đ Perfect!
Thanks, Heather! Haha, I was trying to only use permanent ones!
the eye and lips are absolutely gorgeous!Even those close looks are so pretty!!
i do like little more natural look foundations, have u ever tried cle de peau beaute? their liquid foundation is the best i’ve ever had.
Thanks so much, Milky! No, unfortunately I haven’t!
You have the most interesting eyes! They’re almost leopard spotted, it’s amazing!
Thanks, Court!
Thats So Awesome i love the colors thats how i want to do mine!!!!!!!
Thanks, Darra!
This is very lovely. I’m still pretty much in love with smokey eyes.
Thank you again, Sash!
Stunning look! I’m planning to use it soon on a wedding, but I’m a little confused. It seems like the “Substitutes” don’t correspond to the highlighter and lipstick listed before.
By now I’m very tanned like NC42.
Please, what substitute highlighter would you recomend between: Shroom, Grain, Hey, Femme-fi, Vanilla, Naked Lunch? (I have Electra, Silver Ring, Carbon, Print in place of Typographic)
I have either MAC Honeyflower and MAC Velvet Teddy, what should I use, please?
Thanks in advance!
Try Honeyflower and Shroom.
And, please, is that MAC Honeylove (rosy-beige nude) ou MAC Honeyflower (peachy brown with golden sheen)? Thanks again.
It is Honeyflower as listed in the post!
OOhhhh la la I love this!!!!
Thanks, Katie! đ
Love this!!!!!! Its gorgeous!!!!:)
Thank you, Sydney!
This is just stunning. It looks amazing on you! Are these all Mac products? Tx
Thanks, Eibhlin!
Gorgeous.
Thank you, Isil!
Absolutely beautiful – it’s a work of art! I love silver eyeshadow but it doesn’t do anything for me, guess I have the wrong coloring? I’m light/fair with blue/green eyes, honey colored hair. But on you the silver is stunning. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! You could always try golds instead đ
