Look: LORAC Private Affair
Look: LORAC Private Affair
I just finished up testing LORAC’s Private Affair palette (review coming soon), and this is a finished look I did using the palette. The burgundy shade is so disappointing, because it looks so lush and pigmented when swatched and when initially patted on, but it fades away so quickly to this dirty mauve pink. More on all that soon, I promise! 🙂
You will need the following…
- Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base (neutral eyeshadow base), LORAC Private Affair Palette (first shade — champagne, fourth shade — metallic taupe; fifth shade — burgundy; sixth shade — blackened purple), Make Up For Ever #4L Aqua Eyes (plum), Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara (Rouge Noir)
- Face: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (Punjab), Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder (translucent)
- Cheeks: Rock & Republic Lust Blush (dirty red-pink)
- Lips: Vincent Longo Aurelia Lipgloss (plum)
- Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply the taupe eyeshadow on the inner half of the lid and pull upwards along the inner crease. Lightly blend the burgundy eyeshadow on outer half of the lid with the 239. Next, apply the blackened purple eyeshadow into the crease with the 226, lightly blending onto the outer lid. Blend the champagne eyeshadow with the crease shade and highlight the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying #4L aqua eyes on the lower lash line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Inimitable Intense mascara.
For cheeks, apply Lust blush on the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116.
For lips, apply Aurelia lipgloss for a complementing lip.
Lovely!
Thanks, Steph!
Despite the color change, the finished product came out very nice.
I’ve always been on the fence about Lorac. Lots of hit & miss products.
Thanks a lot, Candee 🙂
That makes your eyes look crazily stunning! Love it!
Thank you, Stephanie!
It’s too bad about that burgundy shade, Christine. If it means anything, the look is still great!
Thanks, Shontay!
Great neutral look! I’ve never tried anything by Lorac but these colors seem well pigmented.
Thanks so much, Chiara! 😀
soooooo gorgeous!
Thanks a lot, Molly!
Love the look! It matches your top, too, LOL.
Will you be reviewing NARS Sheer Matte? I’ve never tried a NARS foundation so I’m curious to see what you think of it!
Thank you, Veronica! I will be!
I love when you do darker and more bold looks… they just look great on you! I hope to see more now that fall is here.
Thanks, Ryan!
We’re supposed to talk about makeup, huh? LOL! I LOVE that color on you (the top)! Very pretty! 🙂
LOL! Thanks, Dusty 😉
The burgundy sounds like a bit of a letdown, but I’ll wait for your full review to pass judgement! Still, though, this look is just lovely 🙂
Thanks, Rae!
That is just lovely! I wish I had your skills.
Thanks, Caroline!
My initial reaction sums it up: “…OOOOOOOOOHHHH!”
Haha!
Did you happen to do a video along with this look? I looove when you do those! Anyway, I’m excited for the review on this palette; it’s something I’ve been considering.
I didn’t 🙁
Even if the colors didn’t turn out the way they were supposed to, I think this is a really nice look on you.
Thanks, Phyrra 🙂
awesome smoky fall look = ] i like the taupe eyeshadow on the inner half of your lid best
Thank you, Dawna!
Thanks Christine. Crazy question but are your eyes “hooded?” Mine are but not sure if yours are too. I try to avoid crease color application (stick to outer V) for that reason.
I don’t think so – maybe very slightly but overall, I would say they are not.
Love your eyes in this look!
Thanks a lot, Ariana!
That’s pretty. I just bought that palette so I’ll have to try that.
Thanks, Karen!
You used the palette colours very well 🙂 I personally think this palette is worth a buy since the colours look very pigmented and would look great for a nice smokey eye. And I LOVE LOVE how you blend your eye makeup always looks so well done! Good job 😀
Thank you so much, Sophie 🙂
New foundation! 😉 Love the eyes.
Thanks a lot, Sixx!
I’ve heard mixed opinions on this palette but until then I was lusting after it bad. Now after seeing this I’m back to wanting it- this is so pretty, you picked the perfect cheek and lip colors to compliment it too. I’m going to wait for your review before I make my final decision, I think!
Thank you 😀
ahh im sooooo happy you did a look using this palette… i was so drawn to this when i went to Sephora, i just HAD to buy it! the brush is useless haha, but the colors and smoothness of the e/s are amazing. i simply just cannot figure out a good look, so thank you for a great look! i cant wait for your review!! =)
Aw, thank you!
I love it!
Thanks, Biba!
pretty! I really like the look, especially the eyes – neutral but also dark/smokey at the same time!
Thank you, Nicci!
Christine, would you review the nars foundation?
I definitely will!
I love this make-up, it’s so chic ! Nice job like always.
Thanks a lot, Yael!
Love it!
Thank you, Jackie!
Wow, love that look!
Thanks, Desiree!
hiya christine, this look is beautiful. But here in the uk we dont have this palette so just wondered what dupes would you suggest? Many thanks x
Try Dazzlelight, Shroom, Woodwinked, Satin Taupe, Cranberry, Beautymarked 😀
Wow! I think you look beautiful in this look! TKO!! It was worth the trouble then. I noticed you used translucent powder. Was that to give your face a matte continuity or were you looking to set the eye look also? How often do you use translucent powder? What task do you want the powder to accomplish? I’m currently overwhelmed trying to get the perfect translucent powder to set looks from my MUFE flash color palette. I’m also a Texan gearing up for 100 degree weather which will leave my face slick with oil and sweat and sticky with humidity. Could the right powder help with this?? I also have very sensitive skin and am allergic to fragrances in products. Could you maybe make a question of the day asking the readers what their favorite translucent powder is and why? I’m really looking for unscented products in particular, but of course any of your and their wisdom would be appreciated. I own currently MAC prep & prime and physicians formula translucent powders. One obviously cost far more than the other. Is translucent powder worth shelling out for? Please help!! Thanks Christine!!!
