Do you like layering lip products?

Do you like layering lip products? Share! What products do you layer most often?

I love it, though I don’t often get to do it! It’s a great way to mix to get the perfect shade, tone, or finish. I’m a huge fan of topping a lipstick with gloss (mostly for sparkle!).

I don’t have an opinion either way… If I find it necessary, I do it, just as with applying any product. Since I actually enjoy the process of applying makeup in general, I don’t think of it as something “extra”. Having said that, I tend to wear MLBB shades or tinted balms most days, but that’s because I’m constantly on-the-go, and I don’t like carrying too many products with me to reapply, as I tend to lose things…

I do it a lot. To make lipsticks last longer, I’ll put on a lipstain first, then a lipstick. For lipsticks that are too pale or too nude, I’ll mix them with a warmer pink gloss. And I’m never, ever without SPF 15 lip balm on top, because my lips are so sensitive to sun.

I hate it. It’s so much work! I like my lips to be low maintenance so they’re easy to touch up. The most I’ll do is a balm or gloss on top to extend the wear of a lipstain, as well as keep it comfortable to wear. I wouldn’t layer a lipstick – seems like a lot of work on the go for touchups.

I doooo………but it depends on the lip products. I want to love layering lipgloss over lipstick, but sadly I find a lot of the combinations I want to do end up a little too goopy (you know, the kind where it bunches up in the corners of your mouth and the colours bleed). And yes, I’ve tried very thin layers – I guess those particular lip products were just poorly compatible.

I have had more success recently though, so I’m kind of getting back into it!

I love to layer glosses with different finishes over lipsticks. I also like layering sheer gold, silver, oor sparkly lipsticks over brighter or darker lipsticks. Very rarely, I’ll do a gloss over a stain.

You bet! When I want a pinky look, I’ll use Rimmel lip pencil in East End Snob all over the lips, then Gosh lipstick in Darling then Nyx butter glossn Creme brûlée if I want to gloss it up a bit.

I do it all the time. I will layer lipstick over lip liner if I want it to last all night, I will layer two colours to make a custom colour, or highlight the centre of my lips with a shimmery colour, and I’ve also used a MSF to mattify and alter a colour by dabbing it on with my finger. I don’t like layering glosses over lipsticks as I find they just make a slippery mess that wears off in no time.

I often put stains below lipstick, especially if I’m getting ready to go out for a meal. Usually when I layer lip products it’s a tinted balm over a lipstick. My lips are hella dry forever and for always. Often I’ll keep a balm in a similar tint to my lipstick shade so when I inevitably touch up moisture I don’t lose color.

I’m so happy I spy on you for these moments when you CAN be bothered when layering lip products because I have buckets I want to spin quickly and let them spray out iridescence everywhere! Fun til: always keep a handful to surprise people when you blow them a kiss! 😉 *Blows a kiss full of fairy shimmer, then sprinkles you with magic glimmer* 😛 <3 xo

I LOVE layering lip products! If I’m getting tired of the shades I have or just want something different without spending money, I’ll either put a lip gloss on top of a lipstick, or I’ll take two lipsticks, apply the lighter or more matte one as usual, then take a lip brush and apply the other one on top. It totally gets me out of any makeup rut!

There seemed to be a trend some years back where matte lipsticks most definitely weren’t in and you almost always topped your lipstick off with a gloss. I’m so pleased that this seems to have died off somewhat because I’m not much of a lipgloss person. Personally, I never did like the feeling of gloss on top of lipstick. My lips are so picky that lipgloss often just turns into a gunky mess on me, mostly if I’m not wearing lip balm underneath or some sort of primer. I need my lips to be in top shape before putting anything on my them but the more product on them the more horrible and gloopy the result. 95% of the time I stick to lipstick. :/

Oh, and I’m too lazy to mix lipsticks together to create new colours. 😀

In theory, this would solve a lot of my problems and would mean I’d need considerably fewer lipsticks to be happy with the color range I would get…except for some reason I never want to actually do it. :/

I almost always layer my lip products. I start before even face moisturizer with lip balm. I like EOS -mint is my favorite. Then usually clear or nude lip liner, whichever I grab first. I then layer on a regular lip stick or stain. Let sit, Blot, and add a lip gloss to the center or all over if the lip stick is too harsh or the wrong color. I used to put a light layer or finishing power after blotting but it didn’t help wear.

I usually don’t, unless it’s maybe a lip liner & lipstick combo. I don’t really like lip gloss on top of anything else because I find it makes the wear time next to nothing on me. I also drink lots of water, and most of the time I don’t even wear lip products (save for lip chap etc.) because I hate the transfer on my cups and reapplication, blah blah haha.

Yes! My lips, especially the top have lost some volume as I have come to the age of 38. I discovered a method I particularly like on Pinterest to make my lips appear fuller without over lining too much. I find when I over line too much and it wears off some or if I do not use a very matte product( usually drying on me), it looks quite noticeable that i have over lined. I like to put a concealer or light cream shadow or Ive even done it with a powder(it looks a bit more dry though) in the center of my upper and lower lip and blend it into my skin above and below my lip. i then line my lips going just right over top of the top lip, mainly cupid’s bow area only. I don’t line right at bottom of lip, just sides. then I put on lipstick with a brush and kind of blend it all together. It really does make a difference and Ive even do it with just my finger with the concealer, skip liner and add gloss or pat on lipstick if i”m in a hurry. A shiny gloss just in the center is a topper and sometimes for a “natural”,ie lazy day..I will just do the gloss.

No! I don’t add gloss on top of lipstick because I don’t like the thicker feeling. I prefer light-weight products and layering just adds more and more texture.
I also usually only buy colors that I really like by themselves so I don’t feel the need to transform them with an extra coat of something.

Aisha Avatar

I sometimes do it but not always, specially not when I am in hurry. I usually apply light or similar shade lip liner on entire lips and then apply lip color. This makes lipstick more prominent and last longer.

I love layering lip products to mix the colors! I did it for an event tonight in fact, haha. I really like combining my Mac lipsticks to get the perfect shade I’m looking for to go with my eye look. I do like adding a gloss sometimes, but most of the time I just like the lipstick to stand out on its own 🙂
