Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Stick Eye Colour Quartet Review, Photos, Swatches
Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Stick Eye Colour Quartet
Laura Mercier Mini Caviar Stick Eye Colour Quartet ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) includes four, miniature cream eyeshadow pencils. The quartet is/was exclusive to Sephora, and they’re completely sold out online (but it’s possible it’s still available in stores), but just about every other retailer that carries the brand has a six-piece set available. The six-piece set has all four of these shades, plus Copper and Khaki. I really regret not getting the six set now! Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks normally retail for $28/0.05 oz. (or $560/oz.), so the four-piece set is a total value of $67.20, and the six-piece set is a total value of $100.80 (each of these is 0.03 oz.). The formula is touted as “long-wearing, transfer- and crease-resistant” with “rich color payoff.” I really liked this set of four; they worked really well together, but they were creamy, opaque, blendable, and long-wearing. I could actually wear them together as a look, which isn’t always easily achieved with jumbo pencils like these (they often dry down too quickly or work better as sheer washes or eyeshadow bases). All four shades wore well for nine hours before creasing slightly. The only downside is that the kit is pretty warm, and the colors are similar enough that while they blend seamlessly into each other, there isn’t a lot of contrast.
Rosegold is described as a “dirty pink with golden shimmer.” It’s a golden copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was fully opaque in one stroke and was easy to blend the edges or blend out for a sheerer wash of color. It wore well for nine hours before creasing. See swatches of dupes / view dupes side-by-side.
Moonlight is described as a “pewter.” It’s a golden bronze with a hint of khaki in the undertone. It had a frosted, slightly metallic finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff in a single pass, and the consistency was easily blended on the skin. See swatches of dupes / view dupes side-by-side.
Amethyst is described as a “soft mauve with pearl.” It’s a subtly warm-toned, medium-dark taupe brown with a frosted sheen. It had rich color payoff in one go, while the texture was creamy and glided on beautifully but remained blendable long enough to work with it–yet it didn’t settle into creases either. The color stayed on well for nine hours. See swatches of dupes / view dupes side-by-side.
Cocoa is described as a “chocolate brown.” It’s a dark, yellow-toned brown with very fine bronze pearl, but it has more of a semi-matte finish applied. It had nice pigmentation in one stroke, and it went on evenly. With a deeper shade like this, the ability to blend it out is so important, and I had no issues blending and using it in the crease. See swatches of dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

So glad these got a great review! Was actually just wondering if I’ve ever seen a 10/10 rating. I’ve had my eye on the 6-piece set for Nordstrom’s beauty event, but had decided I didn’t need it. Now I’m rethinking! I already have a mini of rose gold and full size of amethyst, and I love them. I do tend to layer them under powder shadows though.
Really liked them – wish I had gotten the six set, lol!
Why is the six set sold out whyyyyy. T___T
The four set is sold out, but the six set seems to be everywhere! š
Yep, I picked up the sextet, and they’re great. The other colors are Khaki and Copper, and they’re still available at Nordstrom.
Oh, derp. that’ll teach me for reading/commenting while barely awake. Sorry for the mix-up! I’ll certainly pick up the six set. Thank you for letting me know!
No problem š
Since I think I’m finally somewhat awake, I have a question: How similar do you think Rose Gold is to Bobbi Brown Golden Pink?
They definitely seem similar! Golden Pink is a little darker on me, I think.
I got it off macys.com last week, and I’m pretty positive they’re still in stock!
Thanks for the heads-up! š
Oh, I can’t believe I missed this. Not in the US so buying online at Sephora was the only option. A little bit sad now…
It’s beautiul š Thanks for the glorious review!
If Laura Mercier is carried at other retailers in your area, I know she has a six-piece set out as well!
I looove Caviar Sticks and I’m glad to see more of these here! For the moment I own Grey Pearl, Khaki, Amethyst, and Sandglow. I know I probably won’t stop here! Too bad this set is already gone. I might look into Moonlight though! I hope it won’t turn out too pale and frosty on me (I am probably a tad darker and more yellow-toned than you)!
You may like the six-piece set š
Sooooo tempting. I have full sizes of rose gold and cocoa and they are awesome. I never got amethyst because I have the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in misty rock and the two see so similar. So I don’t need this… right? Right? š
Well, now that I see the four set is sold out, but the six set is still available, maybe I need the six set – then I’m getting four new shades instead of two! That’s good math, right? š
LOL! You could pass… or… at $28, they feel really pricey (for the amount you get), so these sets are nice for trying more shades!
I caved. I decided the two colors I already have would be nice stocking stuffers and that sealed the deal!
Nice! š
Your eye look is sultry and beautiful. š As much love as these caviar sticks get, I tried one before and literally…nothing. I was unsure what would happen but hoped for something great and it just did not work! Any ideas why? Bobbi Brown decided to do a similar thing with a set as well. Does anybody know how they compare? Hence, while beautiful, they don’t work for me. Not yet. My eyelids are so sensitive and will dry and peel easily.. I would love a shortcut stick that works for me! š
Thank you, Lotus! š Hmm, I don’t know. Hard to say. Maybe it was a bad shade or a bad batch? I’ve had good luck with them so far. Bobbi Brown’s are similar but are drier overall.
You’re welcone! š I bought the collection where everything was a limited shade of something pink, came with a mini Shimmerbricks and radiance primer, neither that I use.. Their gloss irritates my lips as well, the lip glacĆ© makes me itch! Regarding caviar sticks, I think it’s my eye skin.. It’s so thin and sensitive, peels easily even when it seems oily.. But think a full blown reddish peach beige color with it darkest in crease, lightest at top and corner.. They’re already done being that color already, abut I like to play! Not so if it will itch my eyes, though. I’m glad you and many others enjoy them! They’re quite beautiful, and I appreciate the info on BB sticks! š Thank you! š
Hi Christine! Thanks for the review (:
I would like to ask how does this compare to the Marc Jacob eyeshadow stick sets and which one would you choose if you had to?
I like these a lot better in general, because they’re more pigmented and more consistent in quality. Unfortunately, the Marc Jacobs ones also cause my eyes to burn!
Which MJB caused burning to you, Christine? Twinkle pops or Highliners? Thanks! š
Twinkle Pops. If any of that gets near the lash line, it is horrific, eye-searing (ha, ha) pain.
I’m sorry! Ouch! š That’s why I haven’t yet tried one. That’s another of many experiences I’ve learnrd. Good to know! Thank you! š (no more pop in your twinkle, ok?) š
I’m trying to stay away from them for sure!
These are gorgeous, but I don’t care for cream shadows.
These MIGHT convert you š They are some of the easier ones I’ve used.
My eyelids are so oily, even with primer creams don’t work. Maybe next time I’m at the mall I’ll try them out with primer. They are awfully pretty…
Reader Maddie mentioned that she can’t wear any eyeshadow without primer due to oilier lids but found 7+ hours of success with these!
Impressive. Thanks for letting me know.
Rachel, I suffer from oily eyelids AND watery eyes, and I’ve recently discovered that waterproof, long-wearing cream eyeshadows is the answer to my problem — Powder eyeshadow just goes patchy in less than 5 minutes from the tears. My favorite is Maybelline Color Tattoo, as they hold up against humid 95 degree weather, holds up pretty well against tears, and I’ve recently discovered that it helps waterproof my powder eyeshadow as well. Do note that still wear a primer underneath, however, I don’t want to take chances.
Thanks for the tips. I have a few of the Color Tattoos, and those do work. So do Colour Pops’ shadows. Powdered shadows work fine on me, as long as I prime first. But it’s nice to have variety/options.
You’re very welcome! I’m going to add that another one that works for me is loosely pressed/hybrid shadows like Armani Eyes to Kill or L’Oreal Infallible. I’ve worn them to an outdoor concert in a very hot and humid tropical environment, and while the rest of my face was a mess, the eyeshadow didn’t crease at all. It did fade a little, though.
This set looks so tempting, but I tried Rosegold before and it looked hideous on me (looks great on you though!), so I doubt most of this set would work for me except maybe cocoa.
It is a rather warm-toned set – definitely a potential downside!
I’ve been really wanting to buy one or two of these for those days when I just want a wash of one color. This set looks like a great way to try them!
Definitely look for a set – so much better than buying the singles if you’re not sure yet!
Have you checked out Mally Beauty she has similar eyeshadow sticks that are awesome! Last year on qvc she had an amazing deal of 5 full size shadow sticks for $30. They don’t dry up and last forever! š
Sorry, I haven’t!
Mally’s! Those are amazing! No irritation and great intense color with a super glide! Stays forever! <3
I got the six set and love every bit of it! I absolutely cannot wear any type of eyeshadow without primer because my lids are so oily, but these lasted a good 7+ hours without creasing sans primer! IN LOVE
Awesome! š
Well, I think that my vanity will need a major size upgrade after this Christmas! All those limited editions are so nice…!
There are a few nice sets this holiday!
We in the UK get totally ripped off. This is $38 but over here it’s Ā£38! I won’t go off on a long rant but it makes me so angry. š
How much are they individually (the full-sized ones) – that’s probably what I would look at!
I am beyond impressed with this formula, from my experience. I want them all, except for the black one!
What are your favorite shades?
I absolutely love Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks!
I have KHAKI and adore it (was a gift from a friend. She said that it would enhance my hazel eyes and she was right)!
(PS: I know someone who have beautiful hazel eyes which would look stunning with KHAKI. Guess who?)
So glad to know that other shades have the same high quality. I’m going to try to get this set in stores and also order some of the six sets.
I totally wish I got that six-piece set now!
I’m tempted to get that one, too, except that I’ve tried the Copper color and it’s hideous on me! So I’d only use 5 of the 6…
You could gift away one (stocking stuffer!) perhaps?
I GOTTA get this one. Totally see myself wearing every shade to death.
NICE! š
I’ve never tried these. I’m going to look for them online. It might be a nice change from my powdered shadows!
And you could always use them under powder eyeshadow, too š
do these crease a lot? would you need primer for them?
hope i can snag a set from my local sephora as it seems like a great value!
All four shades wore well for nine hours before creasing slightly!
These are beautiful! I was considering this set, as I’ve never tried the LM Caviar Sticks and this seems like a lovely way to try it. I especially like the look of Amethyst and Cocoa. Thanks Christine!
No prob, Amanda! š
I purchased the 6 piece set from Nordstrom as soon as they were available. The LM caviar sticks are one of the most reliable makeup items I own. I love them and recommend them to everyone. I think I have most of them with my faves being plum, jungle (green) and sapphire (sapphire is my HG eyeliner, cream shadow). I have oily lids and must use a primer with my e/s. These beauties last a 12+ hr day – upon application 6 in the morning and still working – no creasing – after I get home around 7pm.
Awesome, Erica! So happy to hear how many readers have had great experiences with these. When you wear these, do you still wear primer? Which one?
These are such a great size since I don’t find myself working through eyeshadow sticks too quickly! The shade range is super pretty as well.
That’s great!
These look really pretty and I can tell by your eye look that they are easy to use. The other shades would have been good to see too.
Unfortunately, I only bought the 4-piece set, so I didn’t have the other shades!
I’ve never tried these before, but you completely sold me when you said that these are sold out online! I’m going to start looking for the set in store now!
I hope you can track ’em down!
I have loved these since day one, so couldn’t resist the six piece set– bought 2 of those sets last year for gifts! My favorite sticks are in Amethyst , Orchid (which I think has been discontinued), and Burnished Bronze (fall 2014) I also am totally in love with Bobbi Brown’s shadow stick in Bronze– LE from last Chistmas. Its a beautiful coppery color (LM’s Copper is not as pretty) I really could use a second one of those! I’ll probably indulge in BB 3 piece shadow mini stick set too.
I could see these making great gifts š
These are really pretty and I’ve been wanting to try them but I wish the colors weren’t so similar. Love the look you did though!
Thanks, Ashley!
Christine, how do you apply these shadow sticks? I tried swiping on directly then using my fingers to blend them out, but ended up with more product on my fingers than on my lids. Do you use a brush?
I use a brush for blending!
What type of brush do you use to move these colors around? I’m not getting even application with my fingers, and hesitate to mess up my good natural-bristle brushes that I use for powder shadows. I cleaned off a synthetic concealer brush, but the effect was flat….not feathered out as in your pics above.
I use MAC’s 242!
Really pretty! I’d like the six one too
I totally wish I got the six set!
Oh I love LM caviar sticks! They def. are among the creamiest of jumbo pencils! I think I might hunt down that 6 piece set!
What are your must-have shades, Emme?
I grabbed this set the first time I saw it. That was about 2 weeks ago and Sephora was fully stocked. I think they had just put them out. I love my other LM in Khaki and Plum so I grabbed these.. Great deal. Love them all!!
Nice!!
Wow, these are really gorgeous! I was eyeing this set but on the fence, because I already have so many cream shadows, but I should’ve jumped…
I hear they still have ’em in-store, though!
Good to know, thanks!
I picked this up as well. Loving it! I thought it was such a great value and I’ve been wanting to try the Caviar Sticks for some time. So glad I did! š
What are your favorite shades from the set?
Dupes for the TF quad I spent weeks mourning?? UM, yes please! *adds to cart*
Haha!
Too bad I missed this at Sephora! I have one of these in Orchid and love it. The other place I could see the set in person is at Blue Mercury, but they don’t seem to have it.
The six-piece set is available at several other retailers, if that’s in your budget š
I like the colors but I think the only foolproof one for my coloring is the Amethyst.
Aww, bummer!
I’m so happy I picked this set up! I have been wanting to try Caviar sticks for the longest time. I love this time of year when all the holiday sets come out, such a great way to try new things.
Yay for holiday sets!
Ah, these are gorgeous ^_^ I’m especially vulnerable given how utterly addicted I am to Amtheyst now, LOL! I have my eye on the six-set that Nordstrom has, actually…
Now that I know they’re good, I wish I had gotten the six set!
Hey ladies…
The 6 piece set is still available at Nordstrom’s for $49.50 (it was $55)
Thanks, Jintana!
Heads up — the sextet at Nordstrom is on sale for 10% off right now, from $55 to 49.50 free shipping! Just got mine š
Thanks, Hiba!
I’ve heard so many great things about these! The colors are rather similar but I like them all. They’re very wearable and seem to work well together. I don’t need another holiday set but I’d love to get my hands on this!
They work nicely together for sure!
Do these perform better than Pink Spark? I received that one in a special collection and it just does not work right on my skin, but I’m curious if it’s just that one? The lip glacĆ© burns me. It came in the same collection. A long time ago, I never had problems with their products.. Glosses, shadows, powder, it was fine. Did I get a dud?
I don’t think I’ve tried that one, to be honest! These worked well for me, though.
Well, it came in a special LE color-focused pink spark thing with a lip glacĆ©, radiance primer, can’t use, a shimmer block, so hard to open omg, and the giant stick. I’m very certain it is just my skin, which is very thin and extremely sensitive. For example, my eyelid and undereye area will peel, even if oily, and it’s already pigmented due to the thinness.. So your dkin seems pretty normal and durable and would have fun with these! I’m Glad you do! š They are beautiful! I Think they are too heavy for me. Perhaps when I was younger before falling ill and my skin changing from such a long hospital stay.. The color is more or less a pinky-ER version of kitten in a caviar stick. But it sits & just needs wiped off of me. So I finally saw Maleficent and I am peeved that I did not participate in the MAC collection! Ebay is RIDICULOUS so that’s my rant š Im sorry for my absence here, Christine. This time of year is pneumonia for me and I spend it doing all I can to prevent it from appearing full blown. (And more fun things!) But I do check in and look š Miss you! xo <3 Oh, Conealer for @Wendy Has she tried the newest by terry, perhaps? I so hope she has found a solution! I think about what others say here when I’m navigating beauty across the Internet and hope all is good for everyone. I did get through to that Nasty VIB after waiting 7 hours? Hmm.. Thankfully, I was lent a laptop or I’d never have gotten in! Mobile was jammed tight up like a sticky jelly lid! I hope the negative experience many had will catalyze Sephora into creating better methods for which all can get in. If I had a ton of money, I would have taken orders for beauty insiders who got no deal this year. I remember when Sephora didn’t tax.. Nothing is free.. Rouge perk is free shipping irregardless of amount spent, which I love, but now lime crime.. The fact that better companies have run and Sephora has become less generous and not consistent is pretty sad. I heard that drugstore/beauty.com pulled a fast one too by yanking out brands and I’m so sorry! May I please ask when the beginning of the year sale is? Feb? It was quite helpful to be prepared. (To go elsewhere, or there!) š Thanks!
I found this set in store yesterday at Sephora and was able to get it with the 20% off for the VIB sale. I picked up 2 sets. 1 Set is for me and the other I’m going to split up as stocking stuffers for my mom and sisters. Really impressed! I would have grabbed the set of 6 from Macy’s probably if I didn’t find this one during the VIB sale.
Yay!!!
Christine, thank you so so much for the review.
Because of you I had my eye on this set for the longest time ever and yesterday finally gave in and bought the 6 caviar sticks in Sephora Singapore.
Have to say that it really is amazing, does not disappoint and it is just really that great !!
I really love your work and your blog keep on doing this <3
Big virtual hug from Singapore
So happy you’re loving the set, Ignatieva š Which shade is your favorite?
Hi Christine, thanks so much for your recommendation! I picked up the six-piece set as the Sephora in my area doesn’t stock the quarter set, and I’m so glad I did! (Although I had my reservations as Khaki’s not really a color out of my comfort zone). The colors are impressively lasting and yet blend well for a quick smokey eye, and I love how portable and easy to use these crayons are! Thank you once again!
So glad you’re loving your set, Jen!! š
I got a full-size set as a Christmas present! I am seriously so happy about them
Nice!
