Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Haus Labs highlighters/bronzers, Pat McGrath Divine Blush Duos/Highlighters (working on editing those today, hopefully!)
Weekend plans: Friday ended up being a dark day, so it was quite hard to focus – shifted a lot of my Friday to-dos to today (Saturday). My parents came over for dinner and a movie last night, which was nice. So, today’s plan is edit photos and swatches, upload them to the database, and then crank out some reviews for the week. I’d like to pop over to my parents’ house sometime over the weekend (weather pending) so Winnie can get a swim in.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? Most of the time, I vent to hubby, and it’ll dissipate. For me, just getting the words out, no matter how angry, jumbled, or raw they are, helps a lot. I’ll also lay down, put instrumental music on (like “Peaceful Piano” on Spotify), and focus on breathing.
P.S. — Want to chat with readers on the regular? Check out Temptalia’s Discord where you can chat about beauty, makeup, and more! 🙂
P.P.S. — Check our hubby’s site for video gaming guides — good if you (or someone you know or your kids!) is into gaming, including crosswords and Wordle. Plus, I worked with hubby to develop our own games! You can check out the games we have at Awordy, which include Concludle (trivia) and Adoptle (figure out the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses), and Mislettered (figure out the quote by guessing letters).

Recent purchases/rediscoveries: The only new purchase was another tube of Embryolisse (and only because I was at Shoppers on Thursday – 20% off day – to buy some toothpaste and deodorant). Rediscoveries – my “old” BareMinerals “Ready” eyeshadows, specifically the Designer Label quad and The Escape duo.
Weekend plans: it’s going to be a scorcher here again today and I’m trying to get my butt in gear so I can get to the gym and then the grocery store (I need – of all things – shallots). Tomorrow, mostly taking it easy and going out for brunch to our favourite greasy spoon (it’s a nice, clean “greasy spoon” – it just doesn’t have any pretensions!)
How do I center myself when I get angry: I don’t often get angry (well, I’m angry about women’s loss of rights over their own bodies in the US but that’s something I can’t do much about) but when I do get angry, I find that talking about it helps. Depending on what I might be angry about, I’ll talk to my husband, my best friend or my work colleagues and generally that helps, even if it’s just to find that others I respect think the same way I do. And sometimes, they can even offer a solution/resolution that I’d not thought of…
Mmmm, I love shallots! How are you using them? Regarding your comment on women’s rights: The U.S. seems to be moving closer and closer to a real life Handmaid’s Tale. It’s truly frightening for us.
Seraphine, I use the shallots in a potato casserole recipe from “Chef John” – if you google Chef John Romanoff Potatoes, it should pop up. Loaded with sour cream and sharp white cheddar, it’s not the healthiest of dishes but it is SO delicious.
As for The Handmaid’s Tale, the first season was filmed in my neighbourhood. I would drive past the “Commander’s” house every morning on my way to work. At first, I didn’t quite understand what was going on and who all these women in crimson with white bonnets were, and looked to see what was filming in my city. I’ve only watched snippets of it to see some of the homes that made it into the outside shots. I’m not a fan of dystopian novels nor am I a big fan of Margaret Atwood (sacrilege for a Canadian woman to say this, I’m sure) but I’ve referenced The Handmaid’s Tale in discussions with some women friends online regarding this whole Supreme Court attack of women’s autonomy and rights.
I’ve never seen the Hulu series, but I read the book in the 1980s, and saw the 1990 movie.
OMG, that recipe looks delicious! Since I’m currently on WW, maybe I’ll make it to celebrate when I get to my goal weight (only 6 pounds to go!).
I sincerely regret not being able to get The Designer Label Quad because it has all my favourite shades – Ballgown (gorgeous), Elitist (which I do have in that mish mash Wild Thing Quad) and Couture – a lovely shimmery brown shade. Yep – all are good.
Now, I am not trying to be enabling you in your makeup addiction Mariella, but I have to say you would LOVE PMG’s Subliminal Platinum Bronze 6 pan palette. They are absolutely your shades in finishes that you would adore….I know, I know – you probably have dupes for some of them – but it is gloriously outstanding….
I’m not surprised by what the supreme court did, but I’m in shock, if that makes any sense. I feel like American slipped into a wormhole and we’re living in a weird, dystopian, alternative timeline.
Recent purchases:
#1 – Mac lipstick in Cherish and UD lipstick in Oatmilk, which is a lighter shade than I would normally wear, but it looks good over MAC Soar lipliner (smudged so there’s no obvious line) and a smoky eye look.
#2 – Angel Muse perfume. It’s one of the perfumes that was discontinued when L’Oreal bought the company, and it looks like they’re selling the rest of their stock, since there’s only one size left. They also sent me little samples of Angel Nova and Alien Flora Futura.
#3 – Last week, I placed an order with MAC for Blot Powder in Light (replacement) and Sheertone Blush in Blushbaby. The package was delivered Thursday, but instead of those two face products, they sent me Dazzleglass glitter lip gloss in Get Rich Quick, Cremesheen lipstick in Dare You, and an eyebrow pencil in the shade Spiked. So I called them and they’re sending me the correct products via expedited mail, and said I could keep the three they accidentally sent to me. Unfortunately, I don’t need any of these products, so I’ll have to find a good home for them.
Rediscoveries: After seeing Temptalia’s review for Haus Labs’ Matte Navy eye pencil, I was tempted to buy it, but then I remembered that I already own UD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Sabbath, which is a deep navy matte, so I saved some money!
Weekend plans: My husband and I both have colds, so we’ll be staying in. He’ll probably spend time on his blog, and I’ll be watching Netflix and Hulu, and reading “The Distant Hours” by Kate Morton, which I’m really enjoying.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? I remove myself from the situation and occupy my head with something else, such as watching a movie or listening/playing music.
Agree with everything you said about the state of Women’s Rights in the US at the moment….I even agreed with what Kim K. had to say – that gun rights are more important than women’s rights…..
I’m not a fan of Kim K., but she’s absolutely right!
Recent purchases/rediscoveries: No new purchases. But many a rediscovery within my bunch of palettes. More like shades that I never even gave a chance to before, like SG x Mel Thompson Scarab, for instance. Basically because it felt as if I already had that blue/green-brown/plum duochrome shade a gazillion times over. But, I’ve been watching a slew of YT’ers reviews of the brand new ABH Nouveau palette….and it clicked. I have every last one of those shades someplace within what I already own, I believe! Couldn’t sleep last night due to my highly conflicted and disturbing racing thoughts, so I got up and a swatchfest ensued!
Weekend plans: Get up to my Neighborhood Market for milk and several other necessities. Do my meeting tomorrow because I missed this morning. Try to get a load or two of clothes done. Talk with my BFF, probably cry, bemoan my existence due to knowing *how* I got here, while conversely being glad to have had a life at all.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? Either I vent to a trusted friend or family member, or I might try to stuff it down (which never works, because it comes back to me when I try to get to sleep!), or I may just have a mini meltdown. But, the most effective solution is to write it ALL down. Even if it’s just a Facebook post that I leave as a draft never to be seen again.
Ha ha! I’ve had those insomnia nights where I wind up playing with my makeup…mostly trying on different lipsticks. And then paying for it with chapped lips for the next couple days!
Ah, yes, late night swatch parties. I’ve had more than a few of those.((((Hugs)))))). I know you’re going through a lot right now.
Winnie looks so delightful, spending time with a friend. Sorry to read Christine, that Friday was a tough day for you.
Recent Purchases: Nada
Rediscoveries: Temptalia’s On the Horizon Light palette – just love Earthbound, Flying High and Heart Dog combination
Weekend Plans: This Saturday and Sunday, we have the pleasure of Lachlan’s (our 6 year old grandson) company for a sleepover at our place. His older sister is having a sleepover with her best friend, Neve, so his parents thought that he might like to come here. He did.
After a big BBQ dinner (even though it was freezing cold out in the courtyard for my husband to cook), Lachlan played with the lego. We are taking him to a steam train railway place on Sunday morning.
Hopefully the rain will hold off.
What do I do when I am angry: It takes a lot to get me angry, so when I do, I usually go and sit and read my book. Sometimes I will just go out for a browse at a shopping centre or go for a walk. That usually calms me down.
At other times, I will talk to my best friends or my sister – to discuss matters as well.
Winnie has resting happy face ! So cute…
Recent purchases ? …rms Beauty “Re Dimensional Hydra” powder blush….
It’s a blush/ highlighter and I really love the finish it’s so healthy flushed skin like , I ended up ordering a couple more shades…
Weekend plans ? We’ve been packing , sorting and getting ready for a move so….
tomorrow we a chilling and grilling …
How do I center myself when I get angry …?
Like yesterday after the Supreme Court decision? Ya mean ..?😳
After frantically texting back and forth with a friend …
…I had to literally go walk it off for like an hour at the track….
( It only helped marginally ) but for me doing something physical to channel the energy helps.)
Right there with you feeling the same anger at the SCOTUS decision.
Recent purchases: my order from Jones Road Beauty arrived yesterday so I had fun trying out the Miracle Balm. I liked how it gave a nice subtle shimmer to my collarbone, cheeks and forehead. I also really like it for the lips. It’s an interesting product that I think I’ll use more in the winter when my skin is dry.
Weekend plans: am entering into the last week of school and I’m exhausted. I am trying to put the final planning touches on an upcoming trip to WDW and trying to avoid watching the news as it’s almost unbelievable. Some of my friends refuse to visit the USA right now…
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? I have the best co-workers to vent with-makes going to work a real pleasure. Watching TV at night is my time to wind down, that’s for sure.
Love the doggy pics!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: nothing
Weekend plans: We’ve had a lot of rain lately so when we couldn’t find any sod for the yard today we took the dog for a long walk in the park. I’m just going to chill this weekend I think I’ve finally shaken this cold that hung around for the last 2 weeks. The weather is going to be perfect for bbqing so that’s where I’m going to be out on the deck.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? I don’t usually let things bother me too much, but my husband is a great sounding board, so is the dog. I’ll just turn the music up and dance it out, nothing like a good song to lift the mood.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Oden’s Eye Sunlight Love Blusher in Orange Sunny
Weekend plans: I’ve felt pretty down, but my brother is coming and making us his from scratch homemade pizzas tomorrow so that’ll be nice.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? Like with a lot of my big emotions, I cry. I journal. I sometimes talk to my mom and to friends (usually after I’ve calmed down a bit).
Recent Purchases: I made some big orders…
Paula’s Choice had the anniversary sale, great time to stock on favorites with 20% discount: Omega+ Complex Cleansing Balm, SKIN BALANCING Oil-Absorbing Mask, All Over Hair & Body Shampoo, RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum, SHINE STOPPER Instant Matte Finish with MICROSPONGE Technology. I got several free gifts with purchase (all full size): RESIST Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser, Ultra-Soft Wash Cloth, RESIST Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30, SKIN RECOVERY Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30.
MAC also had a 20% sale: re-stocking the Pro Longwear Concealer and Eye Brows Big Boost Fibre Gel, refills for my custom made palette ( Glitch in the Matrix, Orb, All That Glitters, Royal Rendezvous, Breath of Plum). I got for free samples of Fix+, a primer and liquid lipcolor, along with a full sized lipstick in the shade Chili (a favorite)
Weekend plans: Absolutely nothing special, just the regular chores, groceries, hiking (redwoods are the only appropriate place in this heat), long calls with mom, cooking… and I really need to get my eyebrows threaded.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? Walks are my cure for everything.
I’m sorry Friday was a rough day. ((((Hugs)))). I hope everything will be alright.
RECENT PURCHASES: I was able to hit to get the Sugar Drizzle Pickle Palette and I grabbed the blush palette with the piggy on it on sale. Both items are really cute!
REDISCOVERIES:. Natasha Denona Bronze Palette
WEEKEND PLANS:. We’re in a heat wave this weekend, so we’re keeping cool and getting a few errands done before the heat of the day peaks. Yesterday my sons’ friend came over.
WHEN YOU GET ANGRY, HOW DO YOU CENTER YOURSELF? I usually vent to either hubby or my online friends. It also helps to write in my journal, pet my cats, and listen to music.
Recent Purchases: The Klarity Cosmetics Evil Mermaid palette. The color story/premise/packaging really intrigue me, and I’m excited to receive it.
Rediscoveries: I used Oden’s Eye Hela the other day, and my goodness, the mattes in that palette are absolute heaven.
Weekend plans: I drove up north to attend my niece’s graduation party. Because of family circumstance, I haven’t been able to see her for several years and missed seeing her grow up; I was shocked to get an invite, but so happy I went. She is a bright, confident, lovely young woman and getting to sit and have a conversation with her was a pleasure. She will go so far.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? I have to get outside and walk off some of my energy, than when I’ve calmed some, I talk to my husband or a friend or my mom to talk things out and get a different perspective and/or validate what I’m feeling.
I love Winnie and his buddy! So sweet!!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Purchased replacements of my favorite WnW primer (within the terms of my no-buy.) Rediscovered the BH Doja Cat white liquid liner. I probably need to pick up another one before it is gone for good.
Weekend plans: It is now Sunday, and my weekend has consisted of just getting through it. It has been rough, but husband and pets (and a lot of sleep!) have helped.
When you get angry, how do you center yourself? I let myself be angry for a bit and then look at whether or not it something I can fix or change. If it isn’t, I just have to let it go. I cannot let myself be turned into a hate-filled person, and that’s what too much bottled up anger and fear do to you. And let’s be frank, we are living in a historical moment that proves that time and again. We need a lot more love in this world, but as long as there is this much anger it is going to be an uphill battle.
