The VISEART eye shadow palette in Paris Nude. It’s only sold online, and there are only a few online swatches to look at, but these palettes are sold out 99% of the time on Sephora, and I can see why. Paris Nude is mostly soft satin shades, and they have the most refined, subtle shimmer of any shadow I’ve ever owned or swatched (think of understated French elegance). The kit’s expensive at $80, but with 12 shadows, that only comes out to less than $7 a shadow, which is a total bargain for such high quality shadows. And I got mine for only $55, with $ 25 VIB Rouge coupon off. In the morning when I’m half-asleep and slapping makeup on, I can get a very soft, elegant eye in no time, and it’s perfect with bold lips.

Thanks for the review on the Laura Mercier Watercolor Mist palette! I totally agree with it. I fell in love with the online pics and the rain/mist theme, but when I swatched them in store, it was terrible. The shadows were stiff and dry, I had to press hard with my fingers to get any pigment, and the pigment was sheer and uneven looking. The colors look a little drab, so if you have the slightest discoloration or dark circles, your’re going to look bruised. The blushes were even worse!! I was rubbing my fingers so hard into them, and I could barely get any color. I went to another store and tried a second kit, and same problem. So glad I didn’t order this online.

MAC Harmony blush & Post Haste eyeshadow. I’ve read many comments/blogs stating Harmony was a product commonly used by those with fairer complexions as a contour shade, so I decided to give itba try. *Technically*, I had actually seen it, but it was about a year ago, and I didn’t really remember it. I also saw Post Haste in-store *years* ago, but it was out-of-stock, and given my propensity towards red eyeshadows, I decided to jump on it when I finally got the chance! I’m not disappointed with either, although Harmony will most likely be used as an actual blush, and Post Haste is far more gorgeous than I remembered.

I never buy anything completely blind. I try to pop into Ulta and Sephora at least once in a while and take a good look at stuff. I do order the higher-end stuff online a lot, as I can’t always get to the mall and walk around easily (back injury from car accident). I at least research, look at lots of reviews, swatches/photos, and looks before buying anything pricey.

The exception was the Kat von D Star Studded palette, because I liked other palettes of hers. I ended up returning it, so it’s not a foolproof system.

What did you think of that? I didn’t get one because of the fear of not knowing. But, for next year..are they worth it? Is it stuff you will use? I think it’s a fun idea. Just right after the holidays, plunking down I think $75 on what I didn’t even know I was getting was scary! I do love Beautylish though! Great company. I wish they would restock things faster though and expand which I think they are working on.

I ordered the Vice Ltd palette during the December UrbanDecay.com release. I’m pretty pleased with it though. I bought it for both the shades I didn’t have and to get more of shades I love like Laced, Anonymous, and Backdoor.

Whenever I buy something from Nars or Urban Decay it is sight unseen since it is not sold where I live so I have to order online. If I want something then I look at the reviews on Temptalia and then decide whether to take a chance or not on the product. I haven’t actually had any major regrets with any purchases.

Is it weird if I say that I don’t buy sight-unseen? I’ve never ordered makeup, and to be honest, I doubt I really ever will. Maybe I’m too much of a worrier, but I just don’t have time to deal with returns/exchanges with some company I can’t even go to in person, and I feel certain that with my luck, I’d be constantly dealing with misplaced and wrong orders. So no MakeupGeek or ColourPop for me!

Yes, and thank you for that, as your reviews made me think twice before buying that!
Mine was 3 of the TF “lips and boys” I chose 3 with the best reviews, but they looked different on me than described. I like (but do not love) 2 of 3 and turfed one to a friend, and 1 that I like is a complete dupe of something else I recently purchased. Oh well, at least they are mini sized!

Marc Jacobs night Owl palette. Kept going to different Sephoras to swatch, but none of them had it out (all of the MJ palette displays were really messed up actually, the palettes weren’t in the right slots or they were doubled up under different names). But it looked so great on your blog, I just opted to order it and so happy with the purchase.
Before that it was a Charlotte Tilbury blush. That was a pretty much blind purchase all around.

I always try to get a swatched pic before I buy. Tom Ford mini boys were the ones I got without swatches. Even with Temptalia photos it did not help me. Her photos were great. But when I tried the lipsticks on, I did not expect them to come out that way on my lips. Every color looks good on Christine…..but that didn’t applied to me. I bought Francesco because it looked good on me. Liam and Justin did not. I bought Stavros because it was so hard to obtain. It looks terrible on me by itself, but the makeup artist at the counter at Nordstrom taught me to mix it with another color. I placed Stavros on first and then Leonardo (smoked red) which I already own over it. Smacked my lips several times and it came out to be this beautiful color that I never seen before. Yeh, another reason to go to a counter; they teach me something.

If we’re talking about seeing things in person, well I buy 99% of makeup, skincare, haircare etc. without actually seeing it first! I’m in a remote area & I order almost everything online. I guess the most recent things are the Météorites Compact in 2, Viseart Neutral Mattes palette & the Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex. I rely heavily on online swatches, reviews & the like.

Burberry, because they are impossible to find in shops here.
I still really wanted to try because I was planning on doing my own wedding make-up and was on the hunt for that *perfect* product. Really scary knowing the price (no returning where I live), but it didn’t work out too bad. The foundation ended up being a bit too light, but I kept it for mixing and ordered one shade up. The lipstick was a matte one (lip velvet)… the colour is really pretty but the matte effect is not so good on me, so I only dab it on with my fingers and then top off with gloss.
By the way, I ended up not doing my own wedding make-up 🙂

UD Vice 2 and their Anarchy Face Case. I nabbed the last one of each at 2 seperate stores after calling every single Sephora in Maricopa County! As a result, the testers for each were no longer available to swatch or see. So I bought both having only seen online swatches. Not disappointed in the least

Guerlain perles de blush and the tom ford cocoa mirage palette because I had a gift card. Gotta say, I think I like them both more than anything else I own. When yoloing pays off… lol

The Nars St-Paul-De-Vence duo.
It’s in the mail; I’m so excited to see it in person! I bought it based on the Rodarte show photos and it seemed serendipitous because I’m so into warm e/s lately ++ it looks like it will be very flattering on green eyes ++ great for the smudgy warm 90s eye I love right now. The purchase was out of character for me, though! I almost never get caught up in LE stuff and it’s equally rare for me to buy makeup w/o a 15 or 20% off!

I just ordered the UD Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Ladyflower from their website the other day. I hardly ever order without seeing the item but the blog swatches were beautiful and it’s hard to go wrong with a sheer lip. The UD website is the only place I saw it was available so I took the jump with their free shipping on the new collection. I think I’ll love it when it arrives but we’ll see!

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick in La Flamboyante. I was returning an unwanted Christmas present of Chanel No. 5, I had wanted La Precieuse but they didn’t have it, so I got La Flamboyante instead, wasn’t very excited by it, but I had no gift receipt so I could only swap products not get a refund. I wore it yesterday for the first time and I love it. It’s so pretty on.

The Zoya mystery box. That came with mini’s of a red, black & red brown all cream polishes. For the boringness that are these colors they should have left it a mystery. There were other things in the box topcoat, polish remover, their new matte lippy formula, etc., but it’s all about the polish colors for me. I love my Zoyas, but no more mystery buys from them. Ahem, maybe no more.

Urban Decay 24/7 lipliner in “Bang” (…jury’s out, it isn’t quite the colour I was looking for, which is a bummer, since I rather like the lipstick by the same name – but I swear the liner lacks some of the colour depth and punch).

3 of the new melted Too Faced lipsticks. They are only available online at their site and not in a store so I waited forever for them to arrive to NJ from Cali and 2 of the 3 colors look absolutely horrible on me. I love how they feel and they went on like a dream but the colors made me look dead. 🙁
