Kevyn Aucoin Desert Days The Matte Bronzing Veil Review, Photos, Swatches
Kevyn Aucoin Design Days The Matte Bronzing Veil
Kevyn Aucoin Design Days The Matte Bronzing Veil ($48.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a medium, peachy-brown with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. MAC Golden Rinse (LE, $35.50) is more shimmery. Guerlain Natural / Brunettes (03) (P, $53.00) is yellower, lighter. Guerlain Clair / Brunettes (01) (P, $53.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Naked on the Run Bronzer (LE) is more shimmery, yellower. MAC Matte Bronze (LE, $70.00) is darker, less peach. MAC Matte Bronze (P, $25.00) is darker, browner. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
It’s supposed to be an “ultra silky” powder bronzer that can be used to add warmth to the skin. There are two shades available in this formula, and this is the lighter of the two (I’ll have a review for the other shade soon). Desert Days had good color payoff with a really soft, silky consistency that was blendable on the skin without looking powdery. It was easily blended and diffused for a sheerer look, if desired. The color wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading. This is definitely a warmer, more peach/orange-based bronzer, which may or may not be your cup of tea.

This definitely is too orange for most people! love the pretty packaging though!
I was surprised it wasn’t more neutral given what I’ve seen from the KA line in general!
It reminds me a bit of the UD Indecent Blush that I’m wearing today. Looks lovely.
I could see that!
I can’t seem to visualize who this peachy colour can be flattering on as a bronzer… Maybe the darker one will be a bit more universal.
Hopefully!
This looks really nice on you, but it would be too dark on me and probably a little too orange. Also, for $48? I caaaan’t.
Kevyn Aucoin is definitely a pricey brand!
This looks more like a blush for me. I like his Celestial bronzinf veil in Tropical Days. The texture is really nice. Hopefully the other shade is better. If not, I’m all good in the bronzer department anyhow..more than good actually, lol.
It was surprisingly peachy!
I’d love this peachy shade as an eyeshadow, more so than as a bronzer.
I could see it being a nice eyeshadow color!
I don’t like the colour at all unfortunately 🙁 but everything about this seems so nice! Especially the texture and pigmentation. So smooth.
Totally understand!
Love your earrings, Christine! I think I’ve noticed you wearing that style in different colors—where are they from?

Wow, I actually really love the way this looks on you, even though I’m not even a fan of peachy bronzers.
Btw, where did you get those earrings? They are lovely!

Too orange for me, but it looks stunning on you!
Thanks, Erin!
Thanks for the review! I get excited when you review any KA products. I would love if you could review Tropical Nights as well 🙂 ❤️
No problem.
Hopefully he has some more neutral/universal shades – this would make me look quite ill. The formula sounds lovely, though!
No such luck!
Wow….what in the…..not a fan of this one at all. The shade is just all wrong. The price is also a tad ridiculous considering I bought a Clarins LE bronzer a few weeks back or so and paid approximately the same price with tax, as well as a really nice LE Lise Watier bronzer, also LE, which too was significantly cheaper. Both have tons more product than this, the Clarins with approximately double the amount, *and* both are much nicer shades. I really don’t understand what they were thinking with this one, seriously.
And for the love of all that’s unholy…..it reminds me of a smear of baby-poop on a diaper *eeewww* Who at KA thought this was a great idea? Maybe they were having a BYOB day at the office & someone crapped their pants? That would explain where the the inspiration for this travesty of a bronzer came from. No offense meant as to how it looks on you Christine, but that is one god-awful, butt-ugly bronzer 🙁 I expect far better from this brand & at this price point.
In addition, I’ve got some other KA products which I do like – such as Sensual Skin Enhancer & their cream blushes – but I *really* dislike their packaging. I really wish they’d start updating their packaging & their formulas too, actually. Mineral oil in SSE? There are far better oils available nowadays which are actually great for the skin. Why use this cheap, nasty junk – other than profit margins? Castor oil would make a great partial replacement for the mineral oil & is used in many cosmetic products very successfully. I could fall in love with a SSE like that. The ones I have now I seldom use because of the formulation, although they do perform fairly well.
As far as the packaging goes, it always reminds me of a specific product line from the 70s or 80s which I can’t put my finger on right now…..either way, too old-fartsy for my taste & stupidly overpriced for what you get. This coming from someone who isn’t at all hesitant about spending a wad of cash on anything I really like. I hand over my card very happily when I feel I’m getting my money’s worth, no matter if I’m spending $5 or $500 🙂
I was surprised to see KA’s bronzers lean warmer, though!
I bought this sight unseen and was not that happy with it. It is really nice and matte, stays put all day, but the color is strange indeed. It looks nice in combination with a fair blush or applied really light-handed.
It is also a bit powdery. Lauder has better bronzers…
The package is nice but annoying, it opens itself in the bag all the time. I have several items from KA and they are really good, but really… not up to date anymore, not formual wise nor packaging. Celestial is nice though!
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear you did not like it either 🙁
