KBShimmer Rollin' with the Chromes & Kringle All the Way Nail Lacquers Review, Photos, Swatches
KB Shimmer Rollin’ with the Chromies Nail Lacquer
KBShimmer Rollin’ with the Chromies Nail Lacquer ($8.75 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “cyan, to blue, to red orange, to burgundy, and more multi-chrome linear holo.” It’s incredibly multi-faceted as it shifts from pinkish-purple to copper to gold to blue. The finish is a high-shine, metallic foil. It looks different at all times–always interesting, spectacular, and dazzling. I used two coats, and it was fully opaque, though it turns out, the recommendation is for three coats or one coat over black. The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin.
KBShimmer Kringle All the Way Nail Lacquer ($8.75 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a charitable polish that gives $4 from each bottle sold through the end of today to purchase toys for Toys for Toys. The polish is supposed to contain “circle glitters … from small to large … in red, green, and silver.” It has a mix of small, medium, and large ruby red, emerald green, and silver (which almost has a holographic sheen to it) glitters. The glitters are suspended in a very thick, clear base. I didn’t care for the consistency on this at all; it was incredibly thick, almost goopy, and it took a lot of pushing, pulling, and dabbing to get the glitters to somewhat disperse, but they really didn’t want to move much–especially the larger circle glitters. At least, even the larger glitters came out of the bottle–sometimes you have to fish for larger shapes just to get any on the nail, but the larger glitters did apply along with the rest. I applied one coat over L’Oreal’s I Like It Chunky, and two coats of it on its own on the thumb nail.
Most of the glitter was pretty flat, but there were a few of the larger circular glitters that curled very, very slightly. This can be annoying as it can catch on fabrics and the like, but because it can catch, it also reduces the longevity of the polish as they can catch and rip off, taking a chunk of polish with them. I’m a huge fan of KB Shimmer, but I was really disappointed in this polish.
Updated @ 12/14/13: I just wanted to update this post to let readers know that the owner of KBShimmer did reach out and both offered additional application tips as well as to send a replacement bottle. If I have a better experience with the replacement bottle, I’ll be sure to update again to let you know if that happens or if it remains the same. As a fan of KBShimmer in general, I appreciate that they read and acknowledge criticism in reviews and then strive to address it or in this case, offer a replacement in case there was a one-off issue with mine.

I love KB Shimmer!! <3
Me too!
my god, these polishes are gorgeous!
I really like the multi-faceted nature of the first one!
Wow! The first one is astonishing, surreal! I want it!
Haha! It is very cool. 🙂
Lol, when I saw the name, I started singing it like that song from Clueless.
You & me both!
That duochrome is making me really upset that the current state of my fingernails are a disaster area. It is BEAUTIFUL
LOL!
Rollin’ with the Chromes is an amazing name for an amazing polish. I have nothing more to add.
Nothing more needs to be said!
Love the name of the first polish! The polish itself is also really pretty! I always like colorshifting nail polishes 😀
Me too, Kiara! They look really fun in person, no matter the angle!
I really hope your second bottle is much better. I just love glitter top coats with round glitters!
Me too, Al!
I am having very similar goopiness problems with a polish I recently bought from KBShimmer. Snow Much Fun, a milky blue jelly with snowflake glitters, is reeeeeeally thick and hard to apply evenly. All the snowflakes sink to the bottom (even after I turn the bottle upside down for 10 minutes) and stick to the brush instead of the nail when you finally get it on. I had an excellent experience with their holiday collection last year, but I’m really disappointed this year.
Booo! 🙁 Is that the only winter one you picked up, Christina?
This year, yeah. The rest of my splurge was on AEngland, Indigo Bananas, and I Love Nailpolish.
I have Snow Much Fun and Kringle All The Way. They are two of my favorite polishes to wear right now; however, I also had a problem with the larger glitters not wanting to get on the brush. Kringle was also goopy but I love it so much I just added some thinner to it and that seemed to help the consistency, but not the fishing.
Thank you for sharing your tip, Marjorie!
I adore KBShimmer’s polishes and customer service. Unfortunately, Kringle all the way the the blue snowflake polishes were such clunkers. Thick, gloppy, tons of fishing and I couldn’t get them to completely dry after 24 hours. So very frustrating. Can you share the application suggestions and please update? Thank you so much!
Hi Julie,
She suggested:
1.) Shaking the bottle – she said the base will thin when it is shaken (not rolled)
2.) Use their thicker top coat (this was a suggestion based on the slight curling I noted)
I can’t update any further re: the polish, since I don’t have a replacement bottle yet!
First let me say I LOVE KBShimmer, they’re my fave indie brand BUT I have had bad experiences with their glitters. I bought one this summer, a blue cream with pink and purple glitters in it. No matter what I did, shook it, layered it, let it sit upside down, the glitters just DID NOT work for me so I emailed them. She offered me suggestions and a replacement bottle too which was very sweet. As pretty as her glitters are, I tend to stick with the opaque matte polishes she makes which are always 100% to die for. Have you tried those? She has some new colors out for the winter, like cranberry and purple colors.
I haven’t tried any matte polishes from KBShimmer before!
Kringle All the Way looks really festive, but too bad it didn’t wear well.
