Illamasqua Freckle Nail Varnish Review, Photos, Swatches

Illamasqua Freckle Nail Varnish ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “speckled tan.” It’s a light-medium beige brown cream base color paired with small black glitter and larger, hexagon-shaped black glitter. Zoya Minka is a lighter, more beige-hued color. It was the only shade that came to mind that might be similar to the base color of Freckle (and it’s not close).

Like the other shades in the speckled family, it was a breeze to apply and work with.  The color coverage was fully opaque after two coats, but one coat still had a surprising amount of opacity.  It flowed well across the nail without pooling along the edges, bubbling, or streaking.  I didn’t have any streaking on the first coat with this shade, though it was not too surprising given it is not nearly as light or pastel as the other colors in the range.  I usually find that Illamasqua’s polish wears exceptionally well on me with ten to fourteen days of wear with minimal tip wear but no chipping.

Ahhhh, I love all of these so much! The purple and blue are sold out on sephora already D’8. I’m on a no-buy and so it’s really hard for me to justify it! But it’s so cute, and springy and easter egg looking. Maybe some lower end brands will try and replicate it. But I love the formulation of Ilamasqua.

Hard Candy came out with the candy sprinkles polish collection very similar to this polish. The HC pastel candy colors are actually really unique and nice although there’s no size variety of the glitter in it, just one size.

Oh yucky! 🙁 Looks like burnt scrambled eggs with black pepper. I feel like the yellow could have been more pastel like and less burnt yellow.

This reminds me of a speckled egg shell… very interesting! I think it would look horrible with my complexion but I like the uniqueness!

omg, I love this so much!!!!! I would put on a mattifier over this. I love nail polish that looks like interesting stones, and this TOTALLY fits into that category.

I’ll be honest. When I saw the picture of the bottle on the review, I thought the color was butt-ugly. But, the nail swatch looks much nicer. I like the Illamasqua speckle polishes, but the price is a little too high for me. Since I already have colors similar to some of the base colors, I’m just going to but “Black Polka Dot” by Nubar and create my own.

I love all of the polishes in this collection. This shade, though, looks like it would be too yellow for my skin tone. If it were more cream or more brown, it would flatter me more. But the overall effect makes me love it.

I ADORE it! I’m getting my acrylic fill tomorrow morning, but I think I’ll buy it afterward, for my next appointment! Love love!! 🙂
