Illamasqua Freckle Nail Varnish Review, Photos, Swatches
Illamasqua Freckle Nail Varnish
Illamasqua Freckle Nail Varnish ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “speckled tan.” It’s a light-medium beige brown cream base color paired with small black glitter and larger, hexagon-shaped black glitter. Zoya Minka is a lighter, more beige-hued color. It was the only shade that came to mind that might be similar to the base color of Freckle (and it’s not close).
Like the other shades in the speckled family, it was a breeze to apply and work with. The color coverage was fully opaque after two coats, but one coat still had a surprising amount of opacity. It flowed well across the nail without pooling along the edges, bubbling, or streaking. I didn’t have any streaking on the first coat with this shade, though it was not too surprising given it is not nearly as light or pastel as the other colors in the range. I usually find that Illamasqua’s polish wears exceptionally well on me with ten to fourteen days of wear with minimal tip wear but no chipping.

Hmm… Can’t decide whether I’m on the love it or leave it group. It’s very unique but I don’t know if it would flatter my skintone.
Too tan for me 🙁 Maybe if I had a more olive-y skin tone
wow, this one looks terrible. The base color is very unattractive…
Ahhhh, I love all of these so much! The purple and blue are sold out on sephora already D’8. I’m on a no-buy and so it’s really hard for me to justify it! But it’s so cute, and springy and easter egg looking. Maybe some lower end brands will try and replicate it. But I love the formulation of Ilamasqua.
OMG. Reminds me of quail eggs!
Exactly what I was thinking! Quail eggs are never going on my nails, lol! 😉
I’m wearing it since yesterday! Such an elegant shade!
No! Gross.
Ooh, now this one, I don’t like :/ I think it’s actually rather interesting on the nail, but it looks kind of — mouldy? In the bottle? Surely I can’t be the only one who feels this way! 😛
Haha moldy is a good way to put it!
I’m in the love it camp! I though the pastel shades were too easter-y looking for my taste, but I really like this. It’s so unexpected and different!
Same! It reminds me of mocha-chip ice cream!
Noway! It looks like blackheads on my nose.
Yes. Or like speckled baby poo.
Definitely one of the more unique shades I’ve ever seen! I can’t tell if I think it’s plain ugly or so-ugly-it’s-cute
i like this one, it’s one of those so ugly it ends up looking cool shades.
Love them all!!! So cute and Easter appropriate 🙂
I love them all!!! they are so pretty and Easter appropriate.
Interesting color. I wonder how this would look on me.
Ahmygosh I’m in love with this line of polishes! This does remind me of quail eggs too 😛
Hard Candy came out with the candy sprinkles polish collection very similar to this polish. The HC pastel candy colors are actually really unique and nice although there’s no size variety of the glitter in it, just one size.
Oh yucky! 🙁 Looks like burnt scrambled eggs with black pepper. I feel like the yellow could have been more pastel like and less burnt yellow.
This reminds me of a speckled egg shell… very interesting! I think it would look horrible with my complexion but I like the uniqueness!
It looks like if fingernails are suddenly ill. Not a pretty color.
omg, I love this so much!!!!! I would put on a mattifier over this. I love nail polish that looks like interesting stones, and this TOTALLY fits into that category.
I would totally wear this! I’m a hippie and love weird off beat colors.
omg holy malted eggs batman :O
I think it’s pretty, but it looks like it should be on a kitchen counter.
I’ll be honest. When I saw the picture of the bottle on the review, I thought the color was butt-ugly. But, the nail swatch looks much nicer. I like the Illamasqua speckle polishes, but the price is a little too high for me. Since I already have colors similar to some of the base colors, I’m just going to but “Black Polka Dot” by Nubar and create my own.
these look like those weird asian noodles…
I love all of the polishes in this collection. This shade, though, looks like it would be too yellow for my skin tone. If it were more cream or more brown, it would flatter me more. But the overall effect makes me love it.
Looks like dinosaur eggs! 😀
Such an interesting shade! Definitely not my favorite of the ones we’ve seen (the mint green and pink are my favorite!) but it really is unique and catches the eye!
Cookie Dough! Yum! I don’t get the “gross” comments at all…>snort<
this is so ugly that i need it
This is the one I chose from the collection and it is really wonderful. Very classic, but with a twist. A pest to remove, though.
Eww. D; The base color looks like vomit. I’d like it a lot better if it was a more pastel yellow.
Can’t decide if I like your ring more than the nail polish LOL! BOTH are super cute!
I ADORE it! I’m getting my acrylic fill tomorrow morning, but I think I’ll buy it afterward, for my next appointment! Love love!! 🙂
Looks like sand Lol
