Purple Makes a Cameo in This Blue

Illamasqua Cameo Nail Varnish ($14.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “cornflower blue.” (Sephora has it listed as “periwinkle blue.”) It’s a dusty, cornflower blue that leans noticeably purple. It almost more purple than blue, but it’s not true purple. Which, I suppose, tells you how complex and confusing this color family can be! I couldn’t think of a dupe–Essie Lapis of Luxury was too blue, while Essie Smooth sailing was too purple (and shimmery, too). I’d love to hear from you if you know of any dupe possibilities!

The formula wasn’t too thick or too thin, and it was opaque after two coats.  It dried down to a glossy finish without the need of a top coat (shown without a top coat).  The glossiness is really impressive; it’s just so shiny and glossy; it just looks really elegant and polished.  I typically get anywhere from a week to a week and a half of wear out of Illamasqua’s formula.  It wears exceptionally well in my experience and is a go-to formula when I travel, because it never chips on me.

Right at the top of my head, I thought Pacific Blue by Sally Hansen is a really close dupe but then I realized this is a tad bit lighter, if not a whole shade lighter. But I do think they’re pretty similar 🙂 hope I helped!

Looks like a slightly paler version of Pacific Blue by Sally Hansen. Or maybe a minute difference in tone. I’d have to see it in person to decide whether it’s for me. It’s a gorgeous color, though!

I love blue nail polish (my nails are blue at the moment, actually) and this is a gorgeous shade. A bit light for fall, but I’d still wear it!

This would be a beautiful color for eye makeup (in fact, I had a liner *many* years ago that was quite similar-Maybelline Expert Eyes in Parfait Plum), but I’m not a fan as a nail color. I also don’t see a correla-tion in the name & color. Petty, I know, but when I hear/read “Cameo”, I think of a pinky-coral.

this is hands down the most beautiful blue polish I’ve ever laid eyes on–there’s no question about it, this WILL be mine! I knew there wouldn’t be any real dupes because I’ve been searching for a cornflower blue for sooo long! I’m so happy Illamasqua made this–just bummed its LE

“Is it purple or is it blue? ” 🙂 In all the photos it looks pretty blue, but I know what you mean. For my thesis’ cover I wanted purple, so picked the colour out of the pantone cards and that’s it. Or so I thought. First sample print and it looked blue. Or was it purple? No one could really tell (it looked purple on screen, but blue on paper), so I ended up picking a different, more “purple-y” shade so there was no doubts. 😀

Yes, I was also going to say that this is reminding me a lot of CG Secret Periwinkle. For those who like the color, but not the price or if it’s not available anymore check out the China Glaze color.

Oh Christine, you are bad for my wallet but good for my (makeup) soul!! I just linked and bought this because it’s so, so gorgeous and while I was there I bought Charisma as well……I can’t wait to try this out!

sally hansen x-treme wear in pacific blue, appears from the picture to be the same shade of blue but darker. I’m sure if you mixed some white in pacific blue, you’d have an extremely similar colour! and they’re only like 3$

I’m a bit late in commenting here, but it also reminds me of China Glaze Rainstorm, although that’s got blue microglitter in it. This is lovely, though!

In the UK Topshop do a range of nail varnish, and ‘celestial’ looks pretty close to this. It’s a gorgeous cornflower blue, but probably slightly less glossy than this. I always get compliments whenever I wear it!
