Definitely not my first high-end palette, Too Faced Return of Sexy. It’s not bad, but it’s not one I use too much. The formula is different from most other Too Faced shadows and is difficult to work with without getting glittery fallout all over your face if you don’t know what you’re doing…and sometimes, even if you do.

If I was starting over, I’d probably either get Too Faced Chocolate Bar, or maybe something like Tarte Rainforest After Dark or UD Naked on the Run. Chocolate Bar has been one of my favorites ever since I bought it, but I’d consider Naked on the Run or Rainforest After Dark because they have everything or almost everything you need for a complete look. This would really be helpful if I had to start all over with my collection.

I realize silly on my part but I really don’t like prearranged palettes all that much anymore. I have a few and they are good and i would absolutely recommend them but honestly I just decided about a year ago that i was only going to have makeup that i absolutely loved and I had to love all of it. I have two older sisters, my mom, and a supercool sister in law so I had no problem finding new homes for Too Faced first chocolate bar, too faced peanut butter and Lorac Unzipped. Sounds kookie but I found I did miss the palettes but after a few days I was fine and now everytime I reach for my palettes I’m in hog heaven.

Oof, this question is hard.

Tie between:

-UD Naked 1–I legitimately use the colors in this one all the time, and it works for everything from a super-simple day look to smoky evening fanciness. I’m not great at complicated eye looks, but the formula is pretty foolproof. 🙂

-Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette (the one with all the purples and neutrals)–my favorite mix of palette colors, and a delightful texture/application/wear time (I haven’t tried the re-release, but the original is fantastic).

Hah, I bought Cashmere and it will arrive today. My first Viseart palette! These kind of colours flatter me most and it’s a very compact palette. It is the palette I have been waiting for. So that would be the palette of my choice as well 🙂

ouineque Avatar

hey Kelsey, so nice! I just got mine a few days ago! It’s also my first Viseart palette. Untill now I only swatched it carefully and looked at it, swooning. 🙂 Don’t know if it would be my first palette though. Today I wore the Séduction quad from Chanel (don’t know if quads count), and although the shadows are a bit dry, these work so well on me… It’s bomb.

Kelsey Avatar

I swatched it and the colours are gorgeous! Can’t wait to use it tomorrow. I think it’s a pretty foolproof palette. The Chanel one looks pretty by the way! Especially the rosy/red colour.

Ouineque Avatar

Funny: that’s just what I thought this morning: that rosy-red-berry kind of color is my favourite shade of the palette, a gorgeous transition color. Have fun with cashmere! I m gonna have to start using it one of these days ?

Nati Avatar

I would definitely build my own custom palette! And would probably buy individuals from various brands: makeup geek, MAC, UD and BH Cosmetics to start with. I have many pre-made palettes and I find myself reaching more often than not to extra individual shades to complete a look :-/

Probably the UD Gwen Stefani eye palette.
– It is limited, so I would like to get hold of it before it’s gone AND it’s on sale now
– Even though for me it is not the fastest to work with but the range of colors covers all occasions and moods
– And the quality…

Cat Avatar

The UD Gwen Stefani palette is the one I keep leaning towards as well! I can’t think of another palette that works so easily for me as far as the color combination along with the inclusion of both matte and shimmer shadows.

Erica Avatar

I’m not really into palettes but since my makeup is gone, I’d get Lorac’s Unzipped or something by Kat Von D. Redo my customized MAC palette

Grace Avatar

So hard! I want to say the Gwen Stefani blush palette, but the practical option would be Naked Smoky. It has all the eyeshadow colors I use regularly, and if you need to start a collection a shadow palette is an economical choice.

Leslie Avatar

Surprisingly, the YSL Couture Variation Eyeshadow palette in “Tuxedo”. I was at the YSL counter purchasing a lipstick when I saw this palette….I swatched it….and I had to have it. Yes, it was $95 but ALL of the shades were perfect and so pigmented and smooth. I have BEEN searching for such a palette and I love it even more than my UD Naked Smokey. We travel a lot and I’m so excited to know that I’ll be able to just throw that palette in my makeup bag and have every color I need for night or day. I may even buy a backup. Very expensive but so worth the money.

This is what I was going to say. I don’t even have it but I was browsing MAC’s website recently and I was super tempted to get it because it’s just perfect for me. But I already have a few of the shadows in single pots and dupes for several others, so it wouldn’t be a smart purchase.

If I were starting over though, I think it would be perfect.

Justine Avatar

For a pre-made palette, I’d still be happy with my first ever palette, which unsurprisingly, is UD Naked 1. Though nowadays, my most used is Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye. Ultimately, I’d choose a custom palette, specifically an Inglot 10 pan of my choice. ?

Rachel R. Avatar

The one I picked for one of my eye products, the Two Faced Chocolate Bar. It’s a permanent item and easy to replace. It’s great quality, versatile, and has a good variety of shadows. The packaging is great for travel.

Stephanie Avatar

Probably MAC Warm Neutrals. I turn to it anytime I haven’t a look in mind for the day. It’s just a great workhorse palette in my collection.

Beatriz Avatar

I would say Kat Von D Shade+Light palette even though I don’t own it, it’s the perfect starting palette in my opinion I just won’t buy it because I already own 5 eyeshadow palettes and I much rather build my own custom palettes now.

Lea Avatar

I would say Tom Ford Nude Dip. If we’re talking large palettes with more than 4 colors, then it would have to be my Inglot self made 8 pan or my Chantecaille self made 8 pan. I don’t generally buy really big palettes because there are usually enough colors I’m not drawn to that it seems like a waste. The Viseart ones that everyone is talking about look nice, but I only love half of the shades. I’m definitely of the ‘build your own variety.’

Irene Avatar

Something like the first palette I actually bought from the MAC Fafi collection many years ago, with 4 shades in vanilla, pink, shimmer champagne and smoky grey!

Jenny G Avatar

Chocolate Semi Sweet from Too Faced. It has everything for me: mattes, shimmers, warm and cool tones, a black shade and also a highlight shade!

Louloulovesbeauty Avatar

I don’t know which one.. Either the Too Faced Chocolate Bar, the Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette, or make a Makeup Geek palette.

Robin Avatar

This might sound weird because I love my HE & LE palettes, but one that I think encompasses everything including flattering blushes/highlights is NYX’s Butt Naked #2 “Turn the Other Cheek”. I have hoarded so many great palettes over the last 2 years but I keep reaching for this one again and again.

Beyond that, I never stop loving Viseart 01, KVD’s Shade & Light Eye, Lorac Pro 1, or my Natasha Denona 28-pan collections.

Brenda Lee Avatar

Really hard to choose but I would go with UD Gwen Stefani for eyes. It has neutrals with pops of color. For the face it would be Becca x Jaclyn Hill champagne pop face palette.

Kylie5 Avatar

You Must be very happy with the viseart Palette Christine, have to buy it.
I would Start with Mac riri her Cocoa Palette, I did not collect Mac When the Collection came out yet. Perfect combination of colours

Denise Avatar

Mac Extreme x15 warm neutrals, Naked Basics 1 and 2, Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Estee Lauder warm Bronze Godess. Makeup 4 ever and Smashbox

Elizabeth Avatar

It would have to be the Urban Decay Naked 1. I use it the most, have hit bottom on shadows I never thought I would. It has been so versatile for me in all sorts of situations from weddings to mosh pits. I can use it for formal, or fun. Since I have been hitting pan on almost all of the shades, I have been contemplating using my Ulta rewards to get another one. I have 2 & 3, as well as both basics, they get some love, but the Naked 1 is truly cherished!

Cat Avatar

My first choice would be the UD Gwen Stefani palette. However, since it’s limited edition, my second choice would be the new ABH palette. I like having many different options and being able to create a complete look with one palette.

Nicole Avatar

Probably the UD Gwen palette. It is the only palette I’ve ever bought a backup for. It’s just so easy to wear and has enough flattering warm to cool natural shades that I think anyone could use it. Now that it’s on sale for even less ($39 last I checked) I am seriously thinking of getting another one. I have a lot of palettes but it’s…I dunno. There is just something wonderful about it. Maybe I will exchange the Lorac Pro 3 for it lol.

Anna Avatar

I would build my own palette with MAC shadows. I have a lot of premade palette but I use only a few color from every palette. (for example: from the naked 1 palette I use only virgin, sin, naked, buck, hustle and creep.)

Laura Avatar

If I could make my own palette using Makeup Geek shadows, I would do that. If not, I’d go with Kat Von D Shade and Light or Naked 2.

Connie Avatar

My first palette was the Naked basics and I remember I loved and used that palette a lot when I first get interested in makeup. But now I think I would buy a neutral one again but with more colors… Probably Lorac pro 1

Brittney Avatar

Probably either one of the Urban Decay Naked palettes or maybe Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons since it has neutrals and some color.

Anime Avatar

I’d go with either an RCMA or a Kryolan Dermacolor foundation palette. I know people will automatically go to essential eyes or contours but these foundations serve me SO well and I honestly think almost anyone would benefit from the formulas.

Bonnie Avatar

NYX Ombre Brights. But why can’t we do 3 like most of the other categories? Then I could have UD Vice 4 and UD Naked Basics too. Yes, they are all eye palettes. For lips, I like my Kat Von D Studded Obsession Studded Kiss collection. It was a super expensive collector’s edition from Sephora and it has so many great colors.

IRockFaces Avatar

Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Palette (All matte & seriously amazeballs!) for everyday stuff. And Urban Decay’s Naked 2 palette covers everything else. (Shimmer, Smokey looks, Cool & Warm Neutrals all in one place.) That’s it.
