If you had $250 to spend on beauty products, what would you spend it on?
I’ll be answering in the same spirit as yesterday: in the form of recommendations for spring/summer! MAC Fairly Precious Extra Dimension Blush ($29), MAC Cheek Bits Extra Dimension Blush ($29), Sephora Costa Rica Bronzer ($17), ColourPop Perception Palette ($23), Pat McGrath Sublime Bronze Ambition ($55), ColourPop Strobe Globe Loose Highlighter ($7), Fenty Universal Gloss Bomb ($18), Urban Decay Torch Eyeliner ($20), Urban Decay 100 Degrees Vice Lipstick ($18), ColourPop La Lady ($7), Milk Makeup Kush Mascara ($24).
I would buy some PMG shadows and lip glosses and the Jouer full coverage foundation. If there is any money left, I would look for a palette that combines a blush and bronzer.
Tatcha The Essence ($95)
Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow ($68)
Marc Jacobs Tantastic bronzer ($45)
Hourglass Mood Exposure blush ($38)
Total $246
That or a bunch of Zoeva brushes 🙂
Well, I just spend around that much on cleansers (needed some new ones to test), so I guess that is the only answer possible.
1. Peter Thomas Roth Mask-a-Holic Kit (comes with Cucumber Gel, 24k Gold, Blue Marine Algae Hydrating, Irish Moor Mud, and Pumpkin Enzyme Masks), $79
2. Smashbox Drawn In. Decked Out. Shadow + Highlight Set (the one that comes with two Covershot palettes – Ablaze and the limited edition Sultry – and the Spotlight palette in Pearl), $30
3. Laura Geller Life Glows On Illuminator Palette (has Opal Crush, Diamond Dust, and French Fizz), $29
4. Lauar Geller Hollywood Blushing Baked Blush Trio (has Pink Grapefruit, Bora Bora, and Honeysuckle), $32
5. Escada Sorbetto Rosso Rollerball, $25
6. ColourPop Supernova Shadow in Prelude, $7
7. And 12 more ColourPop single shadows to finish off the last $48 (obviously when they have the free palette with the purchase of four shadows)
Brushes. I would love to spend it all on a full set of Wayne Goss brushes, or maybe even some Sonia G. So Beautylish would get the full amount spent in brushes. 🙂
First I would repurchase a few products that I am going to finish soon such as my Nars creamy concealer and my two most used lipsticks from shiseido rouge rouge range (sweet desire and hushed tones).
I would than buy a foundation because I will run out soon. No idea what I could take to be honest.
I would finish with the Lila palette. Still eyeing after such a long time….! I heard the brand will arrive to sephora fr soon (for fall) ?
That converts to (roughly, to stick to round numbers) 300 Canadian. I’d probably purchase 1 or 2 Dior highlighters and then round it out with MAC Doublegleam or Beaming Blush ED highlighters (going a bit highlighter mad here) or Wrapped Candy ED blush. Or I’d skip the MAC stuff and wait for the new Dior eyeshadow palettes to be (a) reviewed by Christine and then (b) I’d head out to get the “cool” one assuming that (a) goes well!
That cool Dior palette looks amazing. There is a lot in that launch turning my head.
I even like most of the shadows in the “Warm” palette and can’t wait to see what Christine reviews from the whole collection and how it fares. Dior’s shadows can be so good but far too often they are SO disappointing. I am really hoping these are good (or maybe not….I keep telling myself I have to go on a no-buy; I’m starting to have to store my makeup overflow in my daughter’s old room…it is really getting out of hand).
Probably something Pat McGrath and a Burberry highlighter
Disclaimer: I can’t remember if this is my second or third cup of coffee. I only have coffee on the weekends and usually it is just one cup but I think I was feeling adventurous this morning. ?
I’m boring – I would stock up on staples.
Biologique Recherche p50 1970 (around $70)
Wayne Goss eye brush set ($130)
Erno Laszlo sea mud cleansing bar ($40).
There are a few things I would like to try but it would just be akin to swatching and oohing and aahhing. I’m not open to investing in other brands (for now). I’m very pleased with my new addition (Pat McGrath) for the year and for the sake of storage (physical space and mental, heh), I don’t want to try anything new. I have a hard time just getting one thing from a brand. I tried one Chanel eyeshadow quad and then ‘had to’ methodically mine eBay and department stores for 6 months to collect and get current on all the other quads that I liked. God forbid I try a blush or a lipstick. I have dupes upon dupes upon dupes and don’t want anything (until the next launch season . . . ?).
Where do you get the Biologique Recherche? I’d love to try it and can’t find it anywhere.
I live in California
I’ve only ever ordered online. They have 3 sizes, though. The trial or travel is for around $30 and it’s still quite a bit of product so you should be able to get a good idea of what it does. I order from Rescue Day Spa:

You have to create an account and then sign in to see the size and price options.

Forgot to add – I emailed them and went over my concerns and they emailed back with a detailed list of suggestions as well as product suggestions. I buy their masks and another product line from them, but I didn’t buy all of their suggested products as I had comparable items already. They estheticians that I worked with over email were very helpful, no upselling. I’m not affiliated or anything, but it’s a great product (I think it’s more suited for more mature skin but that’s just me) and they really are very helpful. Be forewarned: the smell – it smells like 1970s hospital astringent and It. Is. Pungent. Like Clorox mixed with vinegar pungent. I’m used to it though and it doesn’t bother me. I use it in my nighttime regimen but I’ve read others use it during their morning skin care routine.
You can buy it at shoprescuespa.com!
?
1. Pat McGrath La Vie En Rose palette for $55.
2. Giorgio Armani Face Fabric Foundation for $49. I just want to try this one as it is suppose to blur your pores to nothing!
3. Cover FX Dewy Mist for $31. I love all setting/priming and finishing mists and also love a dewy finish so would like to try this one.
4. Pat McGrath Lip Liner in Night Fever at $25.
5. MUFE Starlit powder in shade 13, Ivory at $21. I know these did not get very good reviews here on Temptalia, if I remember correctly but I recently saw this shade used in a tutorial and I loved the look and since I have never tried them I would like to try at least once.
6. Sonia G Worker One brush if it ever comes back in stock at $36.
7. Sonia G Builder One brush, again if it ever comes back in stock at $34.
Total: $251. Might have to scrape some pennies out of the bottom of my purse!!
Viseart Paris Nudes: $80
Wayne Goss eye brush set (or maybe some single eye brushes, but equal or lesser total cost): $130
Sephora Favorites bronze/highlight set: $40
Fantasy shopping is fun 🙂
Hyaluronic acid lip injection on my upper lip only! No, I’m so NOT kidding. Being an ex-smoker, I have lines just above it and those 17 years of very heavy (2-3 packs a day) smoker caused my upper lip to curl downward. It makes me feel ugly.
I would love to get lip injections for the same reason’s you mentioned although not the same cause. I think my lip lines are mostly related to using a straw everyday of my life but also just genetics. I am pretty sure my ex-husband would say they were related to my pressing my lips together in a sign of dissatisfaction!! I am not scared of needles as I am a nurse and give shots all the time. I even use to let the nursing students start IV’s on me for practice. I am a diabetic so also give myself insulin injections. I am scared witless of lip injections. They just look so painful. If I could afford them I would be willing to try once though. My upper lip is so small that you can barely see lipstick on it when I wear it. I look at IG and the looks I am most attracted to are those of women with full lips. Maybe in my next life!!
I wish there was something I could say that would make you feel “not ugly” because you definitely are not. You have the most beautiful hair, eyes and skin color. I know we always see things in ourselves that we would like to change but you truly are a beautiful woman, Nancy.
Straws will do it, too, Deborah! And like you mentioned, lip pursing in disapproval or (in my case) getting angry.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I wish my mirror agreed with you! Once I have my makeup on, I don’t feel quite so bad about my looks. The hair, though, is dyed. The nice skin is thanks to a good foundation. The eyes? Now those are my best facial feature!
Natasha Denona Darya blush palette. I brought ND Citrus blush palette and like it but don’t like the yellow highlighter that much. Love the formula of the blush palette but would prefer the pink tones in the Darya palette. Something from the new Dior collection!
I would get things I have been wanting to try:
$45 MUFE Artist face color trio: S300, B302, B206
$8 Colour pop super shock highlighter drive me crazy
$29 MAC fairly precious extra dimension blush
$19 DHC double protection mascara
$24 Milk Makeup Kush Mascara
$25 Chikuhodo gsn 9 shadow brush
$36 chikuhodo z10 eye brush
$40 Milk Makeup Blur Foundation
$13 Milani Hypnotic Lights Powder Highlighter Lustre
$11 milani hypnotic lights lip topper beaming light
=$250 before taxes
I take into consideration the value in CAD (300CAD):
1. Zelens – Provitamin D Treatment Drops (£110.00 approx. $190CAD)
2. Biologique Recherche Lotion P50T (150ml) – $67CAD
3. Leahlani Skincare – Champagne Serum ($49CAD)
Total: $306CAD (before taxes)
If I need to include the taxes, I might replace the Biologique Recherche 150 ml with 50ml ($31CAD instead of $67).
$75 – Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (large size)
$50 – Nabla Eyeshadows (Blue Velvet, Erisia, New Heaven, Water Dream, Selfish)
$28 – Coloured Rain shadows (Gumby, St. Germain Cocktail, Glamour, Champagne Life)
$ 12 – Buxom shadow single 24K Stilettos
$52 – Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipsticks (Lit Turmeric, Saffron Fire)
$36 – Urban Decay lipsticks (Heatwave, Liar)
Perricone MD Cold Plasma D and Fenty Summer Daze Lip Luminizer Trio.
If I had $250 to spend I would purchase:
Lorac Pro Metals eyeshadow palette
Rimmel Scandalous Eyes mascara
Foundation of my choice would be Clarins Everlasting
Clarins Joli Rouge blush
Colour Pop lipsticks
I love Rimmel Scandal. The bright orange tubing screams pick me! Easy to find also. Lol! I like this one up there along with the Essence Princess. It works! Also the brush is big and great I’m thinking to keep it clean it really well and use it to separate other clumpy or too wet mascaras.
I’d probably get more Pat McGrath lipglosses and lipsticks. I would get the TF concealer foundation and another Rituel de Fille eye soot .
i’d pick up some HE stuff i’ve been curious about!
Chantecaille loose powder (65)
chantecaille camo stylo (52)
by terry baume de rose ( 60)
by terry hydra powder (60)
I would spend the last amount on masks, probably peach and lily reset button
Viseart shadows, for sure!
SONIA G BRUSHES….they are everything!
I think I’d get the Pat McGrath Sublime palette and one of the Viseart palettes (not sure which one, maybe the new cool mattes). That would leave me with about $45, which I might spend on a PatMcGrath lipstick and then taxes, LOL.
My general approach when I get Sephora gift cards is to buy the sort of big ticket items I wouldn’t normally buy with my own cash.
I would get my aha prescription also would like to try Paula’s Choice starting regime. Many Narz things! But mostly good skin care.
Actually would love to donate it to some woman, a mother with kids in need scaping domestic abuse in a shelter that really might need it to start her life again. That would be best!
Toys, children books for a school something like it.
Brushes and skincare from Paula’s Choice line, if there was any way to send some of her products to Europe. Some ingredients sadly are banned from Europe.
This is actually my current Sephora VIB sale plan (with the exception of the perfume maybe) + some stuff from Beautylish:
– Nudestix Nudies Tinted Blur Stick ($30; $24 w/ coupon)
– Maison Margiela ‘Replica’ perfume in By the Fireplace ($126; $101 w/ coupon)
– Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask ($48; $39 w/ coupon)
– Bite Multistick in Praline ($24; $20 w/ coupon)
– Bite Lip Pencil in 074 (intense red-orange; $18; $15 w/ coupon)
– Milk Makeup Blush Oil ($26; $21 w/ coupon)
– The Ordinary. Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% ($12.90, we’ll say $13)
– The Ordinary. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% ($5.90, we’ll say $6)
Total: $239 before tax (all amounts are rounded up to the nearest dollar)
Whoops! And The Ordinary Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil! ($9.80, round to $10)
New total: $249
I keep coming back to this question because I’m amazed that I don’t have a good answer. I know I’d really like another P-McG lipstick (Unfaithful — as I answered in the $25 version of this question), but there isn’t another $212 worth of stuff I’m interested in right now. I’m assuming it’d be cheating to say I’d buy backups of HG items I already own? And most of that would be skincare. [sigh] Alright, I’d likely go browsing through all sorts of indie sites and randomly picking things that appeal to me. Possibly nail polish, as I haven’t gotten any of that in a long while. I’d probably make a point of buying from brands I’ve heard of, been interested in, but haven’t purchased anything from yet. Sorry, that’s the best answer I have.
Let’s see, looking at my loves at Beautylish and Sephora…
The new Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palette that just came out (I’ve seen some good reviews and I don’t have anything like that in my collection)
One of the Marc Jacobs Coconut Dew Gel highlighters
Milk Makeup Kush Mascara
The newest Viseart Petit Pro palette
A couple of the Guerlain Rouge G’s and a case
Doing as others have done, I’m rounding this to about $300CAD.
Clinique liquid facial soap – $24CAD
Fresh soy face cleanser – $52CAD
Shiseido ultimate sun protection – $45CAD
Coola SPF mineral face matte cucumber – $48CAD
Nudestix tinted blur stick – $33CAD
Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel – $35CAD
Bumble + bumble pret-a-powder mini – $15CAD
Becca be a light face palette – $56CAD
Total: $308CAD
I’m honestly surprised at how much skincare I picked.. but if I genuinely was given a $300 sephora gift card today, this is what I would be picking up. If anything, I would swap out the becca be a light face palette and pick up a backup of the dr jart tiger grass repair serum since dr jart is so hard to get a hold of in Canada and it’s currently in stock (but goes out of stock for months at a time).
For some reason, I have a ton of highlighters on my wishlist right now!
-Anastasia Beverly Hills Sugar Glow Kit ($40)
-Fenty Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Sand Castle / Mint’d Mojito ($36)
-Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Dreamsicle ($38)
-Wet n Wild ColorIcon Baked Blush in Hummingbird Hype ($5)
-BH Cosmetics Weekend Festival Palette ($18)
-Urban Decay Naked Palette ($54)
-Melt Cosmetics Gemini Palette ($58)
Milk Makeup Kush Mascara $24
Sephora Pro Brush #98 $28
Hourglass Veil Translucent Powder $46
Osea Cleansing Mudd $44
Osea Sea Minerals Mist $ 38
Osea Blemish Balm $ 44
Fenty Gloss Luminzer $18
Whamisa Organic Hydrogel Mask $7.50
Christine, how does the Fenty gloss compare to the formula of ABH lipglosses? I really love the texture of the ABH glosses and wanted to know if they have a similar formula. If so, I plan to layer the Fenty over the ABH lip palette colors I create.
I also wanted to ask how are you liking the Kush Mascara? How does it compare Too Faced BTS? I have not tried either, but they seem to be both highly praised.
