How would you describe your makeup style?

Experimental, LOL! And by that, I am constantly trying something new–in terms of product–but then also very standard, since I do not change up my application style/methods much (easier to compare how something works when you apply it the same every time!).

I’m always coming up with something rather edgy and creative! This is my one most favorite creative outlet, so while I do have some everyday types of looks I go to when necessary or I’m just feeling uninspired, there are all those other days when I go more colorful or darkly moody. The one thing I do in almost every look is those cat-eye wings, so at least that is fairly predictable!

I think that my makeup style is very conservative and I tend to use very predictable products in very predictable ways. Since I started following this blog I have been encouraged and challenged to try some different looks using products that I normally wouldn’t use and colors I wouldn’t generally use. I live in a pretty conservative small town and not very many people wear a full face of makeup here. They will dust some powder on their face and add a lipstick and that is about the most you will see and I am totally fine with that but secretly I think I longed to have the courage to try something a little more artistic, to branch out and try different looks. I had been very willing to wear “weird” colors back in my 20’s but after marriage, working in a professional capacity and just becoming stuck in a rut I had moved away from anything artistic or playful in my makeup. Seeing looks posted here by women who revel in the use of color, try different products in different ways, I was given permission to expand my makeup style. Now I think of my style as evolving!!

Beautiful. Societal/situational constraints can be very real. And very artificial. My day job, though professional, is primarily direct care; virtually no one ever wears it, mostly for practical reasons. So I usually don’t. Being somewhat of a nonconformist, occasionally I do, because why not? But people always ask if I have a hot date or something… At 68, uh, no. At night job, low end retail, apt to do the whole drill. Most of my friends wear little to no makeup, but that won’t stop me from a dark lip or an ash purple blush. With them, I don’t want to look too studied or overdone. But, in these critical days, sometimes it seems like a rights issue.

“Eclectic alternative,” is what I always say, for lack of a better description. I get bored easily and switch things up a lot. I love bright colors, shimmers, glitter, and unconventional colors and finishes. I’m also influenced by punk, goth, glam, and retro pin-up looks. Glamorous and weird are a great combination, in my book.

Of course I go more conservative for certain situations and events.

I’m stealing this description “Eclectic alternative”, it perfectly describes my style. I’m like a chameleon and am always changing things up. I’m not really afraid to try anything, well…… barbed wire eyebrows might be a no for me.

in a state of constant improvement on failsafes! lol i’ve only become better at makeup application in recent years so am experimenting more on colours instead of techniques. now and then i will try out something new, like bronzers or eyeliners, but then revert to failsafes for daily makeup.

Smoked out and often “sophisticated” on the eyes (I mean that you can often see I put effort in it lol). I try to not finish with a glamourus look on the daily and I tend to often go for a gradient of colours from light to dark (inner to outer corner), or a full smoky eye.
Now that I know which eyeshadow placement flatters my eye shape… I often just stick to it.

Fresh skin (less room for mistakes as I am still a rookie with base products).

Subdued lips or full on red or berry. Most of the time, I will chose to accent the lips or the eyes.

Individual/experimental. Most of the time I get the experimental part right, although sometimes I’ll try something that doesn’t really work (eg clashes with my skin tone). With regards to the individual bit, I’ll layer a grey lipstick, say, with a blue lipgloss, or go for an orange-and-navy eyeshadow theme (the colour of our bedroom in our old house!) just for fun.

Warm toned. I like to look natural but not so much that I’m down with a no makeup look. I do wear makeup but I’m not edgy by any means. I prefer my golds and bronzes.

Kat Avatar

I do like changing up my techniques, usually every couple of months! Lately, I haven’t done anything too edgy or creative, but my current “look” is a sheer, satin-dewy base, natural bronzer and highlight, ethereal blush, and super blended, soft, blurred eye looks. If I’m wearing a lipstick, I’ll often skip eye makeup altogether. On the other hand, I’ll do a lot of smokey eyes as well.

In the past, I’ve done more complex eye looks, contouring, lipstick, etc., but I’ve found that I prefer doing fancy eyes with a subtle face, or really going ham on base and then doing a subtle eye. It’s common knowledge probably, but I’ve really started to embrace that “makeup philosophy.”

TLDR; I think my makeup style currently is natural, flawless skin and soft color, but that’ll probably change again soon!

I guess I’d describe it as “classic”. I’ve commented in past about just not “getting” things like green or blue lipstick. Those sorts of things just don’t fit into my “idiom”. About the most “outrageous” I get is a bright, shimmery eyeshadow or eye liner here and there but my love of neutrals (to the point of addiction) and “normal” looking cheeks and lips are reflected in my style, such as it is.

AB Avatar

I’d say classic, maybe a little conservative. Relying first on a widest possible range of warm neutrals but then adding some color a/o shimmer somewhere (purple eyeliner, sparkly red lip, etc.).

Lulle Avatar

I’ll have to say fresh and classic. I do a very simple, “fresh face” with very little on the eyes most days, paired with a pop of color on the lips, often in a sheer formula, and I keep the smoke, shimmer and drama for evening looks in general. I used to work a lot more on the eyes on a daily basis but not so much lately.

Brittany Avatar

I guess gothy or vampy? I don’t really count my looks at work because I keep it toned down and do brows/mascara/lips only and almost always skip eyeshadow. Once in a while I wear big, winged liner to work.

But outside of work, I love wearing very dark, blown out smoky eyes or huge eyeliner looks with colorful brows and dark/unusual lip colors.

Mariana Avatar

Shy Goth… haha I like deep and dark colors, that enhance my light skin and dark hair. But I keep it on the safe side, with classic colors more than edgy ones. Lots of dark plum and purple. And always wearing black eyeliner, even if it is only a little bit.

Bonnie Avatar

I guess overall, I’m experimental too – as in always trying new things. I get a gazillion beauty subscriptions and try just about everything they send. But my go-to, ride-or-die makeup bag is stocked with what I’d describe as very beachy – bronze skin, shimmery neutral or orange/yellow eyeshadows, subtle liner, mascara that lengthens but still looks natural, and pale lips (pink, purple, nude, peach, even white). Not your typical “nude lip” although I do like that too, but lighter. Yes, i like the “concealer lip.” I’m tan year round, and like I said, I try all types of looks, but this is what I always come back to.

Pearl Avatar

Neutrals with a pop of color – either on the lid or on the lips. I love an eye look with dimension, and I like to wear a lot of makeup, just not so that it looks like I’m wearing a lot of makeup.

Erin Avatar

I hate to say it but Classic. I usually go for a shimmery eye of champagne or taupe with a bolder lip or a smokey eye with a lighter MLBB. I’d like to be more experimental, but with my space and lighting limitations plus a lack of patience, I’d rather go with a surefire look I’m 100% confident in my skills with!

The 1990s were my favorite makeup decade (except for the skinny eyebrows, which I hate). Although I’ve updated over the years and have softened my eye makeup, I still go for many of the same lipstick colors I wore back then. I like to try new trends, but I think my most common overall look is 1990s-inspired (or should I say leftover?). Right now I’m trying very hard NOT to buy Urban Decay’s 1993 lipstick because I already have similar colors and don’t need it. (Since when has “don’t need it” ever stopped me from buying lipstick??!!)

I describe my makeup up style as “the everyday natural, no-makeup makeup” look. I enjoy a minimalistic look, mostly concerned with just having even-toned skin. My usual look only includes: foundation, brows, eyeliner, blush, and gloss. If it’s a special occasion, I’ll go for bolder blush and lip color! I can’t bother to apply eyeshadow anymore. When I apply makeup now, my goal is to enhance my natural beauty only.
