Pre-pandemic, I loved red and deep fuchsia shades. During the pandemic, I didn’t wear any lipstick at all. Post-pandemic, I decided to get Invisalign to straighten my teeth. When lipstick gets on the plastic, it’s a lot harder to get off than on your teeth, and reds are especially difficult, so I’ve been sticking to nude and rosy nude shades (nothing darker than MAC Velvet Teddy). In a few weeks I’ll be able to switch to a retainer that I only have to wear overnight, so I’m excited to get back to brighter lipsticks, like Chanel Pirate and MAC Ruby Woo and Flat Out Fabulous!

I still like the same colors (my lips but better mauves, wearing MAC Diva any time is appropriate or not 😅 ), but I still haven’t got back to wearing lipstick as often as I did pre-pandemic… I simply forget to put it on.

Even though I’m older, I go bolder more frequently with purples, bright warm fuchsias, deeper bright coral, or even a random orange. It’s like revisiting the 1980’s. During my 30’s and up into my early 50’s, I just went more subdued. And, yes, I do still enjoy a more subtle MLBB, “nude” or something “tame”. But, I’m finding that I do embrace color more often lately.

Nope – I never liked a nude lip (well, not since the 60’s) and never liked matte lipsticks. I’ve always LOVED Craving (in case there’s anyone here who doesn’t know this…). Craving remains my all time favourite lipstick colour, finish, texture…. There are a few reds that run a close second (Chanel Pirate, Shiseido Bloodstone, a few discontinued UD lipsticks). My tastes have remained pretty much the same over the past 20 years!

Since working from home due to the pandemic, I’ve been able to experiment with blue lipsticks. I absolutely adore anything from a royal purple to a navy to a pinky-blue and beyond. I particularly love lipsticks with a colour flip, such as blue with a pink flip, or alternatively pink with a blue flip, or with glitter. I’ve also taken to wearing multichrome pigments (Nikkia Joy Cosmetics or the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette) on my lips.

I love lipsticks and glosses like Too Faced’s Trampula Throw Back Lipstick, Dior Addict’s Midnight Star Lacquer Plump, Urban Decay’s Asphyxia Vice Lipstick, Pat McGrath’s Cyber Orchid BlitzTrance Lipstick, and Too Faced’s Unicorn Tears. I even like BYS’s Holographic Mermaid Lipstick (as a topper or straight).

But I’m still searching for the perfect blue lip colour…

Thank you, you’re very kind. Blues seem so hard to find these days, now that the unicorn look is over.

Ooh, I did forget one extremely important blue lipstick – Tom Ford’s Lip Spark in Trance. It’s so metallic and sparkly, and a gorgeous shade of blue. I can’t believe I forgot that one.

Occasionally I go through a period of wearing a red-leaning color for a while, but mostly I tend to choose a neutral beige/pink/rosy brown type of color with shine. Sometimes I think I found The One but then either it’s discontinued or I just move on for some reason. Maybe I just like shopping too much.

I have always favoured bronzey red, russet kind of lipsticks that have worked well with my complexion and that hasn’t changed – give me a good coppery kind of lipstick and I will rush to buy it – an example was CP’s Party Mix. Maybelline’s Soice for Me remains a solid favourite.
However I have expanded my choice of lipstick over the past several years to include a mauvey rosy brown shade (Maybelline’s Mauve for Me) as the kind of MLBB for me. I have included orangey reds like CP’s Foolish, burgundy shades like MAC’s Fresh Moroccan and Flower Beauty’s Chestnut Red.
Red lipsticks too – Shiseido’s Lantern Red in their Visionary Gel range as well.
I continue to dislike matte, nude and liquid lipsticks/glosses as always.

I have so many nudes and always loved a super glittery gloss! Lately the older i get i want a bold red “relentlessly red” a bright cherry – seems to brighten up my face.. reds .. pinks .. glosses. No more mattes – seem to emphasize lines and looks to dry

In a way, yes. When I was younger, I did not get all the hype around nude shades. I thought they looked unflattering and maybe that was the trend at the time: nothing about MLBB, but shades that were actually lighter than one’s own lips. A little less than 2 years ago I found the first nude shade that I enjoyed wearing (NARS Augustine) and a year ago, another one (Suqqu sheer matte no. 11). These are still in the minority of my lipstick collection, but these do serve a purpose and have proven that I can wear nudes. Not that I would go crazy over every new nude lipstick launch I see.

Slight change lately, I remain in the lighter colors (nudes, pink-nudes), but really wear the pale pinkish colors I used to before 2015. And definitely a big change from the late 90’s to early 2000’s when I wore dark wine colors. Before this, in the late 80’s to early 90’s (when I started wearing lipstick more regularly), it was brown (any shade, but almost always a brown).

Oddly, I’ve been wanting to go back to browns, hmmmm…
