How has your skincare routine changed over the past year?
It is hard to admit, but I have become lazier with my routine and have not kept up with it as well in the last few months. I’ve been trying to be more mindful about taking the time, because my skin was in better shape when I was more consistent.
Not too much and it’s all related to Covid and mandatory masks. As a result, I’m using sunscreen less and less. One of my preferred sunscreens is the Australian Gold tinted one which makes a mess of the inside of my masks. As they’re disposable, it shouldn’t really matter but it also seems I don’t need sunscreen on the lower half of my face, since it’s covered most of the time. I really should be slapping it on my forehead at least (I do sometimes) or using a colourless one (Lise Watier’s Sun Smart is great). Anyway, because I don’t have that fairly tenacious tinted sunscreen (or CC cream or foundation) plus blush to wash away, I’m not doing as scrupulous a cleansing at night (kind of a relief, really) because there’s just less to have to cleanse away.
I have gone to a simple routine and my skin is better for it.
The only change is that I can no longer wear chemical sunscreen on my face due to rosacea. I switched to mineral sunscreen products from Supergoop, and they’ve worked out great.
Ditto: I have been negligent since my move and want to change the trajectory. My whole appearance is suffering. I used to be far more particular, but this laid back environment has me becoming a leeetle too comfortable. My autoimmune also more active and I have been trying to wean myself off some other meds to simplify the amount of drugs I take and it has thrown me for a loop and back into very bad menopausal symptoms with drenching night sweats and day sweats.. so much so I am wearing freaking mumu’s and wearing my hair up in a top bun to try to stay comfortable (I buy these big flowy cheap long ‘dresses’ from Amazon).. Oy, today I had the epiphany I am channeling Mrs. Roper.. It made me laugh at myself, but I am also taking this as a needed warning sign to not become so damned complacent.
It is mainly the same but I have been trying to use fewer products. I used to use many separate products for a very tailored routine but now I just go for one or two multi-ingredient formulas. I am at an age where topicals don’t do much.
I’m quite satisfied with my routine, the products and my preferences didn’t change in the past 2-3 years.
What I am noticing is that I started to use a deep hydrating overnight masks 1-2 days more a week. It’s amazing how my skin can take so much moisture, but still be combination. 😅
For my face/neck/eye area, nothing has changed. However, I have had to pay more than the usual attention to my hands and feet than ever before. They’ve been developing strange very dry callouses like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Yesterday when I was over at my PCP’s office for pre-op clearance, I seriously ought to have brought this concern up to her. But, I failed to get into much detail. All she said was that they looked very dry on the fingertips and the backside of my right thumb. Problem is, they peel and crack very easily. Therefore, I have been slathering them nightly with Aveeno Eczema Therapy Cream mixed with The Ordinary Rosehip Oil in an effort to get them back to normal. My feet are going to need a podiatrist, I fear.
LRP Lipikar AP+M – my brother has severe eczema and I gave him a pump container of this to wear at night over his moisturizer and he was amazed. He gets deep cracking in his fingers/wrists/feet. Seal that moisture in! Hope it helps!!!!
Thanks for that product recommendation, Wednesday! I’ll have to see where I can purchase it down here, because it sounds great.
Amazon!
Thank you! Come January, I’m ordering it! I am so sick and tired of having rough, peeling, cracking on my fingers. It’s ugly. Because they look and feel so bad, I’ve quit polishing my nails. Also, I don’t even want to think about how much it would sting to use NP remover at this time!
Since I have been working from home, I have been able to let my skincare take more time between steps, so I have been able to add steps and let the serum/lotion/tonic sink in before I go to the cream or oil. I haven’t always benefitted from it but I am glad I’ve been able to test out different combinations.
I have started using serums, oils, and gentle scrubs. I also now do a double cleanse. I have also learned to love simpler products with clean ingredients and stay away from products whose ingredients read like a chemical class.
My skincare routine has stayed pretty much the same over the past year. The only difference is that I have discovered that Weleeda’s Skin Food works really well on my skin and once I use up all the other skincare products in my stash, then I will use this one consistently.
Im pretty much the same but working from home has helped me to able to let products properly sink in and im taking time between layers. Reason number 2,634 working from home is wonderful. 🤪
I have actually been more diligent with my skin care and using moisturizing masks. I still can see the hands of time turning so I will be bringing more things into my routine to help.
I stopped wearing foundation during the pandemic because of masking. I spent more time on skin care and realized that I don’t need foundation, just concealer and powder are fine. In fact, I think my skin looks better without foundation. I’ve been using Biologique Recherche and Augustinus Bader, very pricy but have been getting excellent results.
