How does your skincare routine change for winter?

I haven’t had to make any adjustments yet, but I normally opt for a heavier cream-based moisturizer in the evening and/or adding a hydrating serum into my evening routine!

*concentrate at night. Ole Henriksen makes a really nice, very effective one. Or I’ll add a little bit of Josie Maran Argan Oil Light during daytime if my skin looks too dull. But that’s it!

In case anyone wonders why my comment is broken up tonight, and a few other instances, there has been a great deal of interference coming from outside with cell signals in my neighborhood.

I exfoliate less (only once a week now), wash my face only in the evening (I use a toner on a cotton pad in the morning), and pull out my richest serum, eye cream and moisturizer.
For sunscreen, I use spf 20 or 30 with broad spectrum instead of my usual spf 50 PA+++. I always remember to take my prescription vitamin d supplements.
I also use more oil, sometimes after my night time moisturizer.

It doesn’t really. I wash my face with Cera Ve during the day. Wear something with SPF. At night, wash with Cera Ve and use Paula Choice 2%BHA liquid. Maybe add a facial mist. I keep things simple just as much in Winter as I do in Summer

Artificial heat dries me out, so I use my Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask every other night just to keep my skin hydrated and I keep away from extreme temperatures of water both in the shower and when cleansing my face. I use softer products and treat my skin as if it were silk in the Winter months. I also find that the best lip balm for me in the Winter is plain old Vaseline.

I never used to have to make any changes in the past. This year however, is a different story. I gave birth this year and my skin has been very dry since. At the moment, it is extremely dry. I have started using moisturizing masks. I have also started to use small drops of olive oil and Vitamin E oils at night to hydrate my cheeks and under eye areas. If anyone has any suggestions for a nursing mum (as in nursing safe products.) Please reply here. I would appreciate any advice especially for the under eye and eyelid dryness. It is very difficult to deal with.

As my own children are now 30 and 28, I no longer know what is now considered safe for nursing mothers, but I will say that the eye cream I am currently using is very moisture rich without being greasy: Origins GinZing Eye Cream. That one has been doing wonderful things for my eye area! It does have a little bit of caffeine in it, not enough to have it give any internal effect, but it does make the eye area look firmer.

Have you tried Clinique all about eyes (rich version), or kiehls avocado eye cream? Both eye creams are very rich and moisturizing (they protect against harsh winter weathers due to the oil contents and the thickness in texture). I find them easy to absorb for my extremely dry eye area (but they may be too oily for those who are not as dry), and as far as I know they don’t contain any active anti aging properties.

I’m going to repost what I wrote yesterday, because glycerin is a liquid and can be added to most any liquid makeup product, skincare product (but I haven’t tried it with an oil) or as an extra routine step. One drop goes a long, long way. And, this means it can punch up the hydration of most any moisturizing cream product:

CVS brand carries 100% glycerin at about $6.00 for 5 oz. My skin can become very dry, especially in winter. Not all glycerins are made equal, but this one is extremely high quality. It can be mixed easily with anything or worn alone. You read that right — I’ve worn it alone overnight. If you sometimes have winter skin that ends up flaking or itching no matter what product you put on it, or becomes so sensitive that it actually feels and behaves as though it’s chapped, this product is a life saver. It kicks honey concoctions to the curb, imo, and is not greasy or messy. It instantly calms, soothes and reduces redness. It’s my little miracle in a bottle.

I add La Mer Intensive Moisture Mask to the mix. I don’t use it as a mask; rather I use it daily over my serum and before my moisturizer. It adds a lot of extra moisture to my skin and is very soothing. Surprisingly, it is quite reasonably priced for being a La Mer product.

I go for heavier moisturisers and hydrating lip balms. Also, I pay attention to exfoliating my skin regularly and using deep cleansing face masks every week.

I moisturizemore and use belif da bomb water based skin care twice a day. A fine mist of water hydrating spray after applying makeup. Definitely an increase in moisturizing my legs, arms and hands. My feet don’t suffer like in summer as I wear socks all day.

The core products don’t change: cleanser, exfoliating scrub, serum, night and day moisturiser, Physicians Formula Argon oil. I guess the only difference is that I don’t add a high SPF to my skin in winter, just a 20+ one. I also use more lip balm if my lips get cracked.

In warm weather I use a prescription retinoid and REN Wake Wonderful AHA serum on alternate nights but in winter, I skip a night between them. I also use my Clarisonic less frequently and I stay away from facial scrubs. I found that going easing up on the stronger products works better for me than adding more emollient things.

My most acute need is the very intensive hydrating lip balms, as my lips get tremendously dry and cracked even in our mild winters; Jack Black balm in shea butter ‘flavor’ in particular has helped a lot. Otherwise, just slightly milder versions of products like toner, or richer versions of products like eye creams or primers.

HI Christina! My skincare routine does change – I tend to have to use a heavier moisturizer – and this year I’ve added a beauty oil because I’m struggling with dry patches! But I just had to tell you love, I got the ABH Mario Palette on eBay for 17.99!!!! It’s the real thing!!! I guess some of these girls get them as PR packages? I don’t know but I’m so excited!!!!! I just ordered it this morning! Now the wait!!! I was going to get the Kathleen lights Morphe palette, but I went back to eBay and say the Mario (with free shipping) and it was less expensive — after shipping. YIPPIE!!!! Thanks so much for telling me about this!!! I may go back and get the Modern Romance one next – it’s much less too. I so hope it’s the real thing!!!! Keep your fingers crossed (and even say a prayer, if you pray) – I’m Psyched!!!!! Love your blog girl, I especially love the foundation matrix – it’s came in handy several times!!!! Now if I could just afford the Hourglass foundation stick! Life would be perfect!!!!!

Thanks again girl!!!!!
Yours Truly!!!
Gina

All through the year, I just respond to what my skin needs. so there may be times when it’s dry in the summer (thanks tanning) or in the winter. For me, my facial skin stays pretty constant but my body skin and hair change more. Honestly, I shower less in the winter, for less irritation on my skin. Since my allergies are more active in the summer, I try to shower often since hair holds allergens. In the winter, it’s usually good for both my skin and hair to shower much less. When I do, it’s moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

For my face, throughout the year, the simpler I keep skincare, the better.

During winter, I definitely moisturize more because my skin is much drier. Also, I use less of my acne prevention gel treatment because it can be drying as well. I noticed I don’t need it as much anyway during winter because many of my occasional breakouts are associated with the excessive oil that my skin produces during the warm summer months. So during winter, I only use the treatment gel in the mornings after washing my face. At night, I just wash and moisturize before bed.
