How do you store and organize your lip products?

I keep a few “daily” essentials, which are just super favorites that are easy to wear, in my vanity drawer (that’s maybe half a dozen products). I don’t use them daily, but I think that’s the best way to convey their purpose! Otherwise, lip products I keep are typically organized by brand, then by formula. There are a couple of brands where shades are alphabetized (just by letter, not within each letter).

I keep them in three places:

1. A lucite spinner with four sides and an area on top, which are labeled Pink, Mauve, Brown, Beige, and Coral. The lipsticks are in no particular order within those sections, but I’ve gotten used to where they are so I can easily find what I’m looking for. This spinner has the lipsticks I use for work and daytime…the ones I use most often. The spinner still has some open slots.

2. A flat lucite lipstick holder with 40 slots. This holds brighter shades that I use less often—red, purple, orange, and fuchsia shades, plus a few glosses and CP Lippie Stix. It’s not completely full, but close.

3. My declutter box. This contains lipsticks, glosses, etc. that I feel I might eventually be able to get rid of, but I’m not ready to part with them yet.

Just curious, Christine…what are those six super favorite shades that you keep in your vanity drawer?

This is my big fail, I have so many lip products I need to go through them desperately. It will have to wait until my husband is away though (which won’t be for a while now), he would have a fit if he saw how many I have. I like reading how everyone else organizes though, it gives me a good idea how to tackle them.

On top of my dresser is an 80 lipstick rotating lipstick holder, in a medium sized drawer to plastic holders that house roughly 100 more lip products. There are also some of my favorite lipsticks and lip glosses sitting next to my Simplehuman mirror. Probably another 30 or so in a different drawer.

Disclaimer; I do not believe that my lipstick stash is in anyway normal or appropriate for a non-blogger/vlogger person. I was made very aware of my greediness when I had to pack up this craziness a few weeks ago to move and I felt very embarrassed at myself. The money that I spent on this could have been well-served spent on something else much more important.

Man boy oh boy did I just experience this I have two drawers full of lipsticks plus a 20 mini sitting on my vanity and that doesn’t include my liquid lipstick and glosses drawer which I had organized before I moved but just chucked them all into the drawer to avoid my hubby seeing how many I had!!

You’re not alone in this, Nancy.
I have two rotating 80 lipstick holders, then I have a lot of lipsticks in a box, maybe 8X6 inches, the lipsticks are standing so I can see them all. Then I have liquid lipsticks in another box of the same size, not full like the first one. Then I have a box and a half, same size of glosses. Add to this the not many, though lipsticks that doesn’t fit in holder or box.
I need an intervention, I think. I am a lot better now, not buying many at all, and there are some that are to be tossed. But I do admit to having a bit of a problem.
Maybe the only thing to do is start a blog 😀
To answer the question, I have all the lipsticks in the holders sorted by brand and then by colour. Most are MAC.

All of my high end lipsticks are stored by brand in an acrylic and mirror lipstick holder that sits on top of my vanity. I don’t have a lot of high end shades that are not in my preferred shade range so they are all just together in the holder. My drugstore lipsticks are stored by shade in individual boxes. I keep the box that the lipstick comes in and then I cut it in half, attach it to the other boxes so that when a lipstick is pulled out it doesn’t fall over. I am contemplating getting rid of most of my drugstore lipsticks because I rarely use them. I use my L’Oreal Shines so will keep them and then also some of the shades that I wear more often such as Cherries In The Snow. I have way too many lipsticks and just use mostly the high end lipsticks. Some of that could be because they are so readily accessible on the top of my vanity. Lipstick is my downfall and I rarely enter Sephora or Ulta without buying at least one. Social distancing has been good for my pocket book!!

I refuse to buy acrylic storage because it’s overpriced, single use plastic and it doesn’t match my house’s vintage decor. So I repurposed a pretty ‘birchbox’, inset with black plastic grids (from a broken furnace filter) to make a 40-slot lipstick display. That has space for my tubes, liquids, and even a couple lip liners. I also keep a couple in another repurposed birchbox with the rest of my seasonal rotation of makeup to be used/panned.

Regular-sized bullets go in a cylindrical zipper jewelry bag I got in the Target Dollar Spot. It’s exactly the right height and holds 30-40 of them all upright so I can see the names easily. Liquids and any other tall ones go in an old Talenti gelato jar. ?

The ones I’m most likely to wear [to work] are in the slots atop this organizer: https://www.ulta.com/influencer?productId=xlsImpprod17701029
In the top right drawer under the slots are more products that I can wear to work, but am less likely to.
In this organizer, I keep all my other lip products—lip liners in the top drawer, and the others are separated by color/formula: https://www.ulta.com/chief?productId=xlsImpprod17701027

Lipsticks I’m using are almost always in my purse or travel bag(s). Then all else are in a special lipstick case (that I rarely use). A few good ones are in my bridal kit (and I reserve them for that use, taking bits of them on a palette if ever I want to use them).

(I had to move out of my makeup room a while ago, and I’m still slowly going through a decluttering process and moving things out of drawers and onto shelves in my bedroom. There’s no room for my desk and other drawers. So everything is not in it’s final place yet.)

*The coupole of lip primers I own are on my “vanity” (now a computer desk, because that’s what fit in my room).
*I have my high-end lipsticks in three rotating acrylic units, arranged by brand. High-end minis are in a drawer of an acrylic drawer set.
*My DS lipsticks are arranged by by brand in flat acrylic holders.
*My liquid lipsticks, lip crayons, and lipglosses are grouped by type and then brand in 3-section brush holder clones my husband 3D printed for me (he can adjust the height for shorter tubes).
*Lipliners are arranged by color family in an acrylic bar-style brush holder.
*My currently used lip balms are on my vanity, my top desk drawer, and my purse. Backups, GWPs, etc. are in a box till I need them.

I keep them in ziploc bags organized by brand in one of those 3′ plastic towers with the giant drawers. The most recently purchased ones and the ones I pick out to wear that week live in a lucite organizer on the bathroom vanity and then there’s the random dozen that collect in pockets, bags and purses throughout the week because I changed my mind about my earlier choices.

I keep mine in ziplock bags in a plastic drawer, separated in the following way:
1. Expensive brand (basically all non-drugstore)
2. Drugstore bullet lipsticks
3. Drugstore tinted balms + sheer lipsticks
4. Drugstore lip glosses + Misc. Kbeauty lip tints
5. Drugstore liquid lips
