How do you remember what makeup you've worn?
I try to write it down in my notebook/planner if I can’t get it into the looks’ system quickly!

I don’t have a system to keep track of the makeup I wear. Each day is a new blank canvas and I decide which shades to wear as I’m putting on my makeup. Sometimes there are combinations that I particularly like that stick in my memory somehow. But if I forget them, it doesn’t bother me. And even though I have tons of makeup, I am able to remember which products perform better than others.
Even with as large as my stash is, because I only wear makeup on the weekends or if I have an unusual reason to leave during the week, it’s pretty easy to remember what I’ve worn. I typically try to alternate between a cool and a warm look on Sat/Sun. That way I can more evenly test the products I receive.
I don’t particularly…which is a reason that recall for look on the w/e is poor. I cook the same way, generally seldom the same thing twice, lots of tweaking and recombination. Agree with Seraphine. I am lucky if I know for any given day…today it is Lorac unicorn and ametrine, no liner, crease, Mac gym dandy upper lashes, stretchex lowers, Nars blissful, TF Stavros. Maybe add something for night job, like liner, HL. Have on purple today… and all that will be wiped from memory by tomorrow’s awakening… if I drop dead love something, I DO write it down, but those looks seem to be in my visual long term memory, anyway.
If I drop-dead love something, I also write it down…and then I usually lose whatever it is I wrote it on.
I don’t have a system. I have a few looks or colors that I like particularly that I remember and return to when in the mood or in a crunch, otherwise it’s a bit of an experiment each day.
I really should have a little booklet and write down some of my favourite looks – ones that turn out especially pleasing to me – because I can never remember them in detail. I think the next time I’m at a stationery store or similar, I’ll try to remember to pick up something small where I can jot things down so I can repeat them without having to wrack my brain trying to recall what I used 2 days ago.
I don’t have a system or anything like that. I know mainly what I haven’t used in a while so I will try to incorporate those products or determine if I actually need/want them any longer.
I don’t usually keep track unless there is a special look I create and by this I mean an eye look. During the week, I don’t have time to create elaborate eye looks, especially at 6h00 AM when I’m doing my makeup. So I leave this for the weekends or special occasions. Also, I wear neutral eye looks at work/school.
What I have on my eyes today: Laura Mercier Caviar stick in Au Naturel all over my mobile lid + Antique Bronze (ABH MR palette) in the outer corner for some depth, MJ eyeliner in (Earth)quake and Grande Primer + Lancôme Monsieur Big mascara.
I’ve been into eye pencils/sticks lately (Laura Mercier, Nudestix) and I add some eyeshadows in the crease, outer corner for some depth and nuance. I love the eye sticks as they don’t crease on me, stay put all day long, can be used by themselves if I’m in a hurry and I don’t have to use a primer anymore.
I don’t bother with trying to remember. I have far too much makeup to even want to repeat any given look, and I don’t have any *go-to looks” (although I do have some basic styles/techniques i often resort to). That said, I do have a few lip combos I really like, but I often forget which liner goes best with a given lipstick, so I either keep them together, or I do some quick swatches before applying, which just takes no more than a few tries, since I have some idea of which liner I’m looking for (ie, I have a Rimmel liner I love with a NYX lipstick, but I have 2 similar liners, so I’ll swatch both).
If I’m trying to put together a look for a specific event, I’ll store those products separately until said event. Typically, this involves base products, so I’ll try several combos, especially if I’m using something new or will be in a different environment/climate, and once I find what I like, i just put them in a separate bin/bag.
Selfies ! .. and saved Snapchat videos.
Most of the time, I can rely on my photographic memory. It’s one of the only perks I’ve received from being born on the higher end of the autism spectrum; Asperger’s. However, now that I’m getting considerably older, posting in the “Looks” part of this site means that I could go and look it up should I somehow forget!
I only have a limited amount of items in my daily drawer so it isn’t too hard to remember.
Unless it’s a super special occasion (like, I can tell you exactly what products I used on my wedding day, even though it was 5 years ago, LOL) I don’t really bother remembering much past “Oh, I did a nice look with X palette” or “I feel like wearing a sparkly purple eye today, what can I use?” because I have SO MUCH stuff, trying to remember exactly what I’ve used on any given occasion is pretty pointless.
Also, because I am lazy and not on any form of social media, no one needs to know or cares what I’ve put on my face on any given day anyway. 😉
I usually take a picture and post it to my IG account with the details and then I can always go back and look at the details and recreate the look. I really started my IG account for that very purpose and not to share intimate details of my daily existence with total strangers on IG, LOL. However, I do have a few Temptalia readers who follow me and I follow several Temptalia readers and I am enjoying that process. Most of my followers are my daughters friends and they like to know what I am doing and what makeup I am using. I am the “cool” mom!!
I also discovered that I could find looks and details that I might want to recreate on IG and I can like them and that stores them for me to review later. I have found that both IG and Temptalia are both wonderful enablers. Someone here on Temptalia mentioned that they followed an IG account of someone in Japan who posts the most beautiful makeup flat lays. I am sorry that I cannot remember who that was but I started following them and then pretty soon I had contacted them (After seeing Tara from “Tarababyz” on YT ask about ordering from them. I figure if Tara orders from them then they must be reputable!) and ordered a couple of products and now I am hooked. If anyone else wants to look at beautiful makeup and brushes the IG is “fudejapan”. Look at your own risk.
I don’t worry or think about what makeup I have worn because I just wear what suits me and complements the colours I am wearing and the season it is.
I take pictures of it and put it on my Pinterest, along with the products I used.
if it’s a look that either i or my bf really loved, i’ll selfie the look and store it in a private pinterest board
If I liked it enough, it’ll probably stay in my memory for a while. Other than that, photos, snapchats, the occasional instagram post, etc. I really should write some of them down though.
I don’t remember half the time what I’ve put on because every day is an experiment . I’ll mix in samples with “regular items” …that adds to my confusion if I had to remember what I used . Oh dear, maybe I ought to keep a list !
I frequently DON’T remember even what I”m wearing at the time! I’ve had people ask me and I don’t have a clue. Sometimes if I look in a mirror I’ll be able to recall what I used that morning, but generally I just pick an eye shadow color that I feel like wearing that day and it varies but generally all within the same fairly neutral color family, nudes, taupes or coppers.
I honestly hadn’t even thought of writing anything down. I try to rotate through my eye and face palettes every day. There are some that I reach for more than others just out of preference, and there are some that I have to remind myself to use. As far as putting looks together, I just do it on a whim, it just depends on how much time I have and which palette I’m using. But I wear makeup everyday, unless I’m sick or staying home cleaning all day.
I keep track of my makeup on Snupps and I have board for MOTD. That way I can look at combos I put together if I needing inspiration ?
I love to switch things up everyday so remembering what I wore on any particular day is almost impossible.unless perhaps someone pays me a conmpliment? Then maybe I’ll try to remember what worked right?
I don’t keep track of make-up looks per se, but what I do keep track of is what I’ve worn.
I have a planner that I divide into 5 sections: Fall/Holiday (Thanksgiving through New Year’s)/Winter/Spring/Summer. I list all of my eyeshadows (endless), eyeliners (43), cheek colors (21), lipcolors (endless), and then I just check off what I have worn each day. (I only wear 1-2 foundations, mascaras per season, so not track-worthy.) Anyhow, at the end of each season, it’s fun to see what colors/formulas I gravitated toward and sometimes that helps me to make decisions about future purchases (ex: I only wore that ABC eyeliner color 2x all summer…). It’s also satisfying on some organizational level to see what I have and what I really use.
