How do you feel about theme makeup?

How do you feel about theme makeup? Like holiday-themed looks? Superbowl-themed looks?

I have no problem with it! Sometimes if you follow a team’s colors, you’ll have quite a challenge, which can be fun!

Great idea! I don’t really have a team, but my brother loves the Steelers, so I’ll go with that today. I’d never go full facepaint, though, it grosses me out.

Yesterday, I did Harry Potter Hogwarts house of Slytherin-inspired makeup, so that pretty much sums up how I feel about themed makeup.

I love it! It gives me a chance to mix colors I can’t on a regular basis – like black & orange for Halloween, red & green for Christmas; 2 color combinations I love but can’t wear everyday

It’s an interesting challenge if you want to have fun with makeup. I’ve done xmas and halloween, but I’m not interested enough in sports to do that. I think it’s important for a good look to adapt the theme to your own face and be flattering. I can remember in high-school with friends adding designs in eyeliner for events, that was fun.

I usually like it, as long as the products are good. I REALLY wish someone would do a Harry Potter themed one for the last movie, that would be the most amazing collection.

I’d seriously be interested in seeing a Harry Potter themed MAC said– that coming from a non-MAC addict on a no-buy lol. It sounds lots of fun. If not MAC maybe UD would do a BOS for the final film at least. (because of course I need another bulky palette like a hole in my head). What colors/products for a Harry Potter though?

I think MAC should have done a Shrek collection.

Too bad they all missed LOTR and Hobbit probably doesn’t lend well to a collection 🙁

& why is there a Joan Jett Barbie but no Joan Jett makeup collection? Would have been fun with the Runaways release.

ak Avatar

Yeah Joan Jett would have been cool as I saw The Runaways and both Joan and Cherie wore, and wear a lot of makeup. I guess no Shrek or Harry Potter collectrion ever came out as those are movies where the stars guys, or some sort of male. LOL

I don’t see why it would be a big deal. I normally match my eye makeup to my clothes (I wore a teal and purple scarf yesterday and tried out your Peacocky look, I loved it and my boyfriend kept telling me how pretty my eyes were!). If you are wearing a black and yellow jersey, why not do a gold and black smokey eye?

I think it can be fun and evoke creativity, and even be wearable, depending on your spin on it (for example – eyes in team colors as opposed to the war style face paint many male fans might sport). Beyond that, I think it’s a fun accessory if you’re going to go with a theme for your make-up, and not necessarily match it out too much to your clothing. One bold statement is fun, too many is obnoxious!

I’ve done Bears themed eyes and Sox eyes (which was just a grey smoky eye, so no biggie).

It can be fun! Especially if you’re going out for a game.

My bf is a Canucks fan. Everytime we go into MAC, he will always put the same blue+green eyeshadows on my arm as I swatch around. At first I was like “Wtf” but I’m starting to crack cuz there’s some amazing dark frosty blues and greens that MAC has.

Trish Avatar

I always do a look around my favorite team playing in the SuperBowl. Folks get a kick out of how I match my eye makeup to the colors of my jersey. 🙂

Themed makeup is nice as long as it isn’t excessive. I’m a makeup junkie and a huge sports fan and while the Jets were in the NFL playoff I did my eye makeup different variations of green every week!

Holly Avatar

I always wear navy blue and gold on my eyes when I go to my little sister’s sporting events to show my support for her. All of the girls on the team love it and now I’ve started doing their eyes, too. I love it!

On Friday, I wore red, white, and black eyeshadow to show my support for Egypt.

I generally keep the rest of my make-up and wardrobe understated when making such a statement with my eyes.

Steph Avatar

I think it can be fun, but I don’t necessarily do it for every possible occasion! On a workday well… it might be a bit inapproriate (depending on where you work and how extreme you go with the theme).

I am a hockey fanatic. I am a Boston girl and am very proud to be a mAsshole, lol!, so whenever I’m at a game up there I wear a yellow and gold smoky eye. Looks great! But, I’m currently in school in TX and I go to 2-4 Stars games a month. There I wear a green and gold look. so much fun! When I do these, I line my upper lid with UD’s glitter liner in baked. Awesome effect.

Whenever the Saints play, I wear black and gold eyeshadow, so I am all for this. This year for Mardi Gras, I was going to do a look with purple, green and gold. Can’t wait!

Bekka Avatar

I’ve been known to sport red and green for Christmas, and coordinate my nail polish with the seasonal/promotional colours at work. So I reckon I’m ok with it in moderation.

I like theme makeup for myself only when it’s regarding the popular looks from different decades, you know, the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s looks etc. because I love a lot of certain little things about certain looks from decades past in general. Edie Sedgwick, Studio 54, early 80s, supermodel late 80s/early 90s etc., there’s a lot to pick from that can inspire you.

Chynna Avatar

I think it depends on the theme. So often the theme just seems to be “ridiculous.” I do enjoy seeing the creative looks people do video tutorials of, but also think it should be something I wouldn’t feel silly in out in public.

ak Avatar

This is why certain retro looks, especially if you have the confidence for it all, are as far as I go. Because at least the look was done by most people at least at one time. And you don’t have to go all the way over top if you don’t want to, you can gauge a retro look too. I prefer to go a bit further though LOL

Natalie Avatar

I like it! I always try to keep it non-literal though. Like if I want a holiday/Christmas look, I use seasonal colors, but I don’t scream “Christmas” with it like a candy cane-patterned eye shadow or something. For the Super Bowl I did a Green Bay theme (I’m an Eagles fan but sadly thata wasn’t an option!) with gold and bronze shadows and a forrest-y green UD 24/7 pencil and it looked fab! It was still Green Bay but yet pretty and classy.

Katherine Avatar

I do this ALL THE TIME. I have an eyeshadow that I use specifically for when I go to Northwestern football games. But I do this a ton for other stuff too.

Mel Avatar

When the Saints won the Superbowl I did a gorge smokey black and gold look with a KVD palette and when the Jets were in the playoffs I did various fun smokey green looks. I’m a huge football fan so it’s always fun to show my team spirit on game day especially with my makeup.
