How do you approach organizing your makeup?
I determine if I’m keeping it, and a lot of that is based on the brand, whether it’s permanent/limited edition, and getting to the point whether performance was good (if it was a terrible LE launch, I rarely keep these days!). My system is mostly set-up by brand, then by formula/type, so at this point, I just maintain that system!
I currently store my makeup by brand and then colour family and lastly by finish. It is working for me as long as I stay on top of clean up and regular purging. My daughter and I both are about to do a major declutter and she has a friend that loves makeup but can’t really afford to buy much so she is going to take our products off our hands. I would like to get my collection down to a more readily managed level and better curated now that I know what I like and what works for me. Going forward this year with a very low buy or mostly no-buy, I feel like I can focus on what I really want to keep and will actually use rather than taking it out and just drooling over it, if you know what I mean!! I really feel like keeping things better organized and in their proper place will help me to realize that I don’t need that new lipstick, etc. I am still going to buy some eye shadows to dupe the Smoke Sessions shades that I don’t have already duped and one more palette this year and I am holding firm on that so it will have to be something really unique and excellent in performance for me to “spend” my one palette resolution.
Hmm, that’s an interesting question…mostly just by category. Skincare together. Eyeshadow palettes together. Not always in a way that makes much sense to anyone else but me?
I wish I would, some how at least π
I organize by product type. When I am thinking about how I want to look, the brand does not enter into it. I try to organize my daily makeup in order of application but the dimensions of various packages and size of receptacles make it difficult.
I organize my makeup very simply – a bag for lippies, a makeup bag for small quads, one for staples and a large one for big palettes.
Such a timely question!
After reading your articles on organizing your stash Christine , (, it was just the kick in the booty I needed by the way )
I was ready to get ruthless about going through my makeup and tossing it if i didnβt love it or was past its prime , even the high end items I couldnβt get rid of before ..
I just got done doing this , now to reorganize. That part I havenβt started yet ,
Right now I have everything organized by catagorie I.e. lipstick, highlighters , eyeshadows, etc.. then color families . , ( warm, cools, nudes , deep, ) , not sure if that s going to work out .
Iβm going to re read your articles and the community response for ideas .
I just organized everything. Like with like. Primer, foundation, highlighters, blush, concealer, eye shadows, eye palettes, eye liners, mascaras, powders. The lipsticks are coming, I have so many I’m thinking on how I’m going to tackle them. The no buy I was on last year continues, I’m a VIB Rouge until the end of the year and I hope to get off that list.
Some things are sorted and organized, some are still in boxes after I moved. I do know just about where to look for the things I don’t use that often,
I have managed to put all the large palettes with each other, sorted by brands and I have about 2/3 of my lipsticks sorted by brand and then colour (for MAC as I have so many from them) in two revolving holders that hold 80 lipsticks each. I am a lipstick horder, I think π
The rest will be organized after I decide id I want drawers or shelves with boxes.
I do dread organizing everything, but it’ll also be fun, rediscovering stuff.
I break it up by category and then if there’s a lot, by brand. So for palettes, there are a ton, so those are by
eye or face, then brand. Foundations can all fit in one bin. Same with concealer, powder, mascara, primer, setting spray, and lip and eye liners. For color cosmetics, lipsticks and glosses are by brand, because there are tons of them too. Blush, bronzer, and highlight can probably fit in 2-3 bins.
One of my favorite pastimes rearranging my collection. I must be similar to Monica in Friends. Lol! I have my eyeshadows on top shelves, blushes on middle and whole lot of lipsticks on bottom shelve. Things I use everyday like spf, foundations, skin care I have inside an acrylic container on top of my sink so I can easily hide if I have visitors under my sink cabinet. Other small items that I may or may not use on daily basis such as bronzers, contouring powder, eyebrow tweezers, etc. are in front of blush shelves. I have these two perfect Ikea shelves in a brown/reddish tone which have three glass divisions these have glass door also and three drawers no glass on bottom. They are so perfect for makeup storage I use to share one fir myself, one fir my daughter but she graduated and leaves with boyfriend so she left it to me and said to fill it up jokingly except she had no uses how quickly I did! I should be on a NO makeup buy until past vampire estate and then some but they sure make it so tempting! ??ββοΈ?
Oh auto correct I will shoot the beauty out of you one of these days. For not fir, lives not leaves, idea not uses. Omg! Is it because I switch often from Spanish to English but even keeping it innEnglish still happens. Sorry. βΊοΈ
