Ravine

Hourglass Ravine Graphik Eyeshadow Palette ($58.00 for 0.25 oz.) contains five shades of warm neutrals with a mix in finishes. Per the brand, the formula is supposed to have a “velvety-smooth texture” and a “high concentration of pure pigment powder for the truest color payoff.” They’re an update to the brand’s previous Modernist eyeshadow palettes (which I didn’t like at all), and it’s a definite improvement! The colors are very true-to-brand, though it may feel redundant for those who have already indulged in their fair share of neutral palettes over the last few years.

Champagne Beige

Champagne Beige is a soft peach with warm, yellow-orange undertones and a mostly matte finish. It looked and seemed more matte as I applied it, but it seemed to take on the natural sheen of my skin and did not appear as flat/matte as some pale shades can. The texture was soft, a little powdery in the pan, but it applied well to bare skin and blended out nicely without resulting in a lot of fallout. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Neutral Brown

Neutral Brown is a sof,t light-medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was smooth, velvety and not too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan. The eyeshadow was easy to work with, blended out well on bare skin, and wore well for eight hours on me.

Plum Brown

Plum Brown is a medium taupe-brown with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, moderately dense texture that felt almost-cream like as it was quite finely-milled. The color applied evenly to bare skin and blended easily along the edges. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Warm Gold

Warm Gold is a medium, golden copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a smooth, almost cream-like texture that was very soft and blendable without being too powdery or loosely pressed in the pan. It wore well for eight hours on my lid.

Dark Cocoa

Dark Cocoa is a deep brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque and definitely buildable to full coverage (less than a layer more was needed). The texture was soft, a bit thinenr compared to the other shades in the palette, but it was fairly blendable and lasted for eight hours on me.

I’m glad this palette is better than the Modernist predecessor! (hard to imagine them being worse!) This is a really nice assortment and perhaps if it had come out 5 or 6 years ago, I’d want it but these are shades most of us who’ve been “into” makeup for a while would already have in abundance. But for someone new to the makeup fixation or someone who’s close to finishing up a neutral palette, this would be a nice option.

It looks like a lovely basic neutrals palette! Nice to see a brand relaunch a product line for the better. This would be great for everyday, but I actually gave this duped with my custom Buxom palette, with the addition of a shimmery highlight shade.

Seems like a nice “starter” palette or one for a budding makeup artist. Nice neutral shades for a simple look. The quality is much improved over previous Hourglass shadows. I have a gazillion shades like these so not for me but I think many will enjoy it.

Inital thought: colors in the palette look basic as all get-out, but your eye look is so stunning!
Second thought: champagne and a brown look really can be so gorgeous! (gonna try a similar look to this tomorrow from what I have).

I love this palette – so co-ordinated and full of beautiful, wearable shades. It’s one of the best little neutrals I have seen, because usually there is either a shade I can’t wear or a black, which I don’t like.
It’s also reminds me of how great neutrals can look when done properly – Christine, your eye look is just sublime.
I would happily purchase this little gem, except I do have the Huda Smokey one that I have recently purchased.

I have way too many neutrals already, but glad this is such a big improvement over the Modernist formula, hoping they will come out with other color combos

Yes!!! I am so happy you reviewed ! Fingers crossed you will review all of these. I loved these since seeing them at Nordstrom and then in videos with a few Y Tubers.
My only hesitation is that they are expensive, very small in person for the price. I wish these were being sold at Sephora but I received a comment back from the company on IG, that these will not be sold there.

Mariella Avatar

Oh shoot! I was waiting for them to arrive since, at least here in Canada, they’ve only got 2 shades of the palettes left and all the others are gone. Many years ago, Hourglass had duos that were very expensive for what they were but they were so excellent. I was hoping they would be returning to that sort of quality. I’m miffed that I won’t be able to get these if I weaken (as I’m likely to do if Christine keeps coming up with these stunning looks).

What they said. Hope HG continues in this vein. Clearly, the market for warm neutral basics is not saturated. But I cannot conceive of that being true. I never get straight warm neutral palettes, but have dupes for all shades from various other palettes. As I suspect is true for the majority of your readers.

At some point in the past week or so (I can’t find our exchange for the life of me, and I’ve looked but my searching skills aren’t so hot), I asked you about the new Hourglass palettes based on a look you did here (it was for some totally other product – lipstick or blush – I’ve no idea, but when I checked the Look Details – because the eye look was spectacular – you’d used a new Hourglass palette). Do you recall, by chance if this was the palette you’d used or was it one of the others? I can’t even find the look now but it was amazing!

Mariella Avatar

Okay – ignore the preceding – I found the post and it was about the Vista palette. These new ones from Hourglass look really promising and, personally, I much prefer the separated pans rather than the ones that all ran together, as was the case with the Modernist ones.

Lovely, and nice to see Hourglass improved its eyeshadow approach. However, I have dupes for all of these shades, and it’s too costly for my budget to be a “why not” purchase for me.

Z Avatar

I know you rated this well, but looking at photos it looks cheap, dry, and the same effing shades of brown everyone who has ever purchased eyeshadow before already has in their collection. Maybe it’s because makeup is a bigger industry now, but I am SO tired of brown, brown, brown, and warm orange palettes.

I am THRILLED with the Ravine palette. It is a PERFECT neutral and the formula is so smooth and rich that it even works well with my hooded old eyes. This is honestly the only palette (out of my 75 high end) that makes it easy to make my hood issue look minimized. It is so easy to apply and blend. I love love love it. The colors are also perfect for someone like me that can only really pull off neutrals. I have so many palettes with many colors that I will never touch. Not this one. Cannot be happier with this product.
