Holiday Makeup: Violets and Purples

I did this look for fun before I took a shower on Sunday, and in my hurry, I forgot to take close-ups of the eyes/lips, so there’s just a couple of full-face photos, but hopefully you get the idea 🙂

I wanted to use Illamasqua’s Static pure pigment, since it sure looks pretty, but I was so not feeling it in practice — it was gritty, never melded together, and really didn’t work.  I layered it on top of the paint pot and then put the eyeshadows on top of that, and it even looked heavy and accentuated every little line on my eyelid (which aren’t even really noticeable until you pile makeup on top!). Static is really similar to MAC’s Pink Opal pigment, which is cheaper (by a lot) and never had any problems using before.  Oh, and packaging?  I think I already lost 10% of the product on my floor and countertop after only opening it twice.  Two thumbs down for that!  I’ll probably review it later, so you can hear me gripe it about it on the official then!

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Illamasqua Static Pure Pigment (iridescent pearly white/fuchsia), Digit eyeshadow (pale, light purple), Beautiful Iris eyeshadow (medium purple), Parfait Amour eyeshadow (cool medium-deep purple), Make Up For Ever #92 eyeshadow (matte deep purple), Bisque eyeshadow (matte highlighter), Urban Decay Lust 24/7 Liner (purple), Stila Violet Smudge Pot (deep purple), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Face:  Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer (in medium)
  • Cheeks: Petalpoint blush (raspberry pink), Dior Rose Diamond Skin Shimmer (rosy highlighter)
  • Lips: Guerlain Gemma lipstick (medium pink), Guerlain Crystal Pearl KissKiss Gloss (pearly white)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Petalpoint = Dollymix + Well Dressed

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. With the 239, apply Illamasqua Static pure pigment with water-based mixing medium on the lower lid. On the inner lid, pack Digit eyeshadow on using the 239. Apply Beautiful Iris eyeshadow to the middle and outer portions of the lid. Darken crease with Parfait Amour eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Make Up For Ever #92 eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Bisque eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Lust Liner on lower lash line, and Stila Violet smudge pot on the upper lash line using the 209. Apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Petalpoint blush using the 129, then highlight with Dior Rose Diamond Skin Shimmer with the 188. Apply Guerlain Gemma lipstick to lips, and then top with Guerlain Crystal Pearl KissKiss Gloss for color and shine.

Wow, purples look so good on you! This look inspired my make up for tomorrow. I already have a Mac palette that has a darker purple and a lighter violet, I am thinking of getting the Pleasure of Paris palette, do you think I should? *Specially after seeing such amazing look I couldn’t resist*

I love purple’s and this is a lovely look that can be worn anytime too. It is very pretty. I love the shades and I am surprised that I don’t have any of these from MAC, despite that I have a load of purple eyeshadows.

Gorgeous! Wish you would have remembered to take closeups but no worries! I’m sure you’ll do another look soon to make up, riiiight? Haha, j/k 😉

Love it 😀 Thanks for the mini-review on the Illamasqua pigment. I was hoping to get some of these, but they don’t ship them to Canada. 🙁 Good to know I’m not missing much on the one you used. 🙂

So, so pretty Christine! I wish MAC would release a color like MUFE #92 so all my shadows can match in size. lol-I don’t want one giant MUFE shadow sticking out of my drawer haha 😉

Hey Christine, I wonder what camera do you use? The colors look so vibrant with this camera!
This is one of the prettiest FOTD I’ve seen from you.

Hi Christine, this looks really amazing on you! I love the way you have done your crease, just a little bit above the crease and the “cat” shape of it!

Christine – petalpoint blush looks sooo amazing on you! I love the eyes and lips in this look but the first thing i noticed was how gorgeous your cheeks looked! Wish MAC would repromote this color!!!

Sooo pretty and girly. I love purples and pinks and this look is just so so so beautiful on you. Saying that, I don’t think there is anything that you couldn’t work. 🙂 I really love Static pigment by Illamasqua. I’m sorry to hear it didn’t work for you. 🙁 x

I do agree that it’s not the easiest product to work with but a few recommendations would be to:
1. Empty the product into a different container eg an empty pigment jar because it will be easier to pick up the product and you can use the lid to work it into a brush.
2. Use a fluffy brush like a 222/224/217 by MAC. Really tap of any excess and gently press the product onto the lid. It may seem like you’re not putting on much but a little goes a long long way.
3. Treat the pigment like a glitter. Use an emollient/sticky base. If you don’t mind a little creasing, MAC cream colour base is amazing. Otherwise press a little MAC eyeliner mixing medium onto the lid and gently press on the pigment over the top while it is still sticky.

🙂

Lol. I know what you mean. Although I love the product itself, there certainly is room for improvement. Let’s hope someone from Illamasqua is reading this! 🙂

Hi Christine!! This is gorgeous!! I have MUFE 092 and I think it’s so beautiful, I’ve been wearing it everyday since I bought it (a couple of days ago). I smudge black eye liner with an angle brush and then I dab MUFE #92 over that and it’s beautiful!!
I think the colors look great on you, even if there on the cool side!

Love your eyes! The colors complement you so well. And the combo is colorful without looking tacky. It’s not a dull look, yet it’s very classy.

I absolutely love this look! I will definitely try it since I have all the main colours (and dupes for Digit and Bisque). Thanks!
