Holiday Makeup: Icy Blue Smoky Eyes
MAC Love Lace Look
Here’s a quick and dirty look using products from MAC’s Love Lace Collection! I managed to squeeze in all four of the eyeshadows that came out. Just an FYI, Blanc Type looks very, very subtle in real life — it’s not a very camera-friendly color (tends to look a lil’ on the chalky side) — ’cause whenever I use it, I can barely tell I have it on… until I take photos, of course, lol!
I ditched the lip products, because they’re really not up my alley (with all that sheerness, y’know!), and I went with two upcoming shades from Chanel’s Spring collection instead. And the lips are the BEST PART ABOUT THIS LOOK. Seriously. Amazing!
I also opted for warmer cheeks and lips to warm up the cool-toned eyes, since I’m naturally warm, so it helped balance the look for me. You could just as easily swap in cool-pink cheeks and an icy, pinky lip, too.
You will need the following…
- Eyes: MAC Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), (dark blue), MAC Love Lace eyeshadowMAC Suave Intentions eyeshadow (medium blue), MAC Pincurl eyeshadow (icy pinky-silver), MAC Hypnotizing eyeshadow (smoked mauve), MAC Blanc Type eyeshadow (matte off-white), MAC Sense of Style kohl power (blackened blue-teal), Dior DiorShow Extase (black)
- Cheeks: MAC Springsheen blush (peachy)
- Lips: Chanel Delicieuse Rouge Allure Lipstick (soft coral), Chanel Futile Glossimer (sheer sparkling pink)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Love Lace = Deep Truth; Suave Intentions = Tilt; Pincurl = Vanilla; Hypnotizing = Shale; Sense of Style = Teal-o
Directions: Start by applying Soft Ochre paint pot as your eyeshadow base all over the lid with the 249. Using the 239, apply Suave Intentions eyeshadow on the inner two-thirds of the eyelid. Darken the outer third of the lid with Love Lace eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Next, define the crease by applying Hypnotizing eyeshadow with the 226. Lightly tap and brush Pincurl eyeshadow directly above the crease to soften. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Blanc Type eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Sense of Style kohl power on the lower waterline, and then sweeping lashes with Dior DiorShow Extase mascara.
For cheeks, apply Springsheen blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 129.
For lips, apply Chanel Delicieuse Lipstick first, and then layer Chanel Futile Glossimer for a soft lip.

Love Lace, Suave Intentions
Pincurl, Hypnotizing
Damn. You used Sense of Style and now I want it. And Love Lace. And Suave Intentions. And Hypnotizing. (Do you think I could maybe replace it with Satin Taupe — not the same color but same effect?)
Those lips are goooorgeous! The color suits you perfectly.
If you have Shale, I think that’d be a better substitute – just because it has a lil’ bit of that mauve/purple, but I think Satin Taupe would still be pretty instead. 🙂
Thank you!
I think I might not get Hpynotizing because it doesn’t really stand out to me. Still doubting on the blue e/s. I don’t have any yet. Would this be a good start for me? Thanks!
Suave Intention is a pretty nice blue, as far as MAC blues go, so if you don’t have any, it’s not a bad place to start 🙂
This is so cute! I like!!
Yay! Thanks, Tianna!
I swear I don’t ever look good in lighter hues of blue, but Christine, what you did make me want to buy the whole love lace collection just so I could copy this look! You’re so good!
You should try it, Pia!! 🙂
Thank you!
you are a pretty lady
Thanks!
This look AMAZING on you! Now I start wishing I didn’t have green eyes so that I could find a use for Sauve Intentions, the color looks stunning…
Thanks, Keren! Pshh, wear it, you never know 😉
No matter how much I like the makeup in any of the looks you do, my first thought is always how gorgeous your eyes are, with the veins of reddy-gold running through the iris!
lol! Well, that’s always a good thing 🙂
Thank you!
Ohhh, I love this. This makes me really want the shadows.
Thanks a lot, Jess 🙂
I love it, you so right about the lips.. so soft looking. I was going to skip this collection but now.. I am a sucker!! lol
LOL!
Aww, you could try the dupes first, if you have ’em 😉
Why did you have to post this stunning look Christine?… just after I decided to skip the Love Lace collection! Lol. All of the colours you have used look really beautiful on you. 🙂
LOL, sorry Sarah! 😉 I think there are decent dupes for it, though — so totally try those first!
Thank you!
I love your look!
Thanks, Faiza!
amazing as usual!
Thanks so much, Monica 🙂
This is very pretty, I’m gonna have to get these eyeshadows! 🙂
Thanks, Anita 😉
Gorgeous look! I love the colors, and the combination you used on your lips.
Thanks, Chiara! I’m so about those lips. I mean, wow! They’re soft, subtle, and not at all like BAM! in your face, but I love them.
Stunning look Christine!!! I do love the lips!!
Thanks so much, Andrea! I’m ALL OVER that lip combo! Love it!
I wasn’t super excited when I saw the eyeshadows swatched but they look SO beautiful on your eyes!! Great job coordinating the shades for this look!
Thanks, K! They’re nice, but I definitely think you can get by with dupes, know what I mean?
And of course, I had to attempt to use them all at once, LOL.
Such pretty colors! They look great on my gray eyes. I create a similar look often with the Dior Sky Glow quint.
Don’t have that quint, but it sounds pretty!
There’s dupes for Love Lace and Suave Intentions in one of the Wet n Wild eyeshadow trios, can’t remember the name, but it’s the only one with blues.
Good to know 😀
oh woww!! i wasn’t crazy about this collection, but I LOVE this look, I’m so getting all the e/s!!!
Aw, thanks, Alisha! You could always try using the dupes, too, if you have ’em 🙂
Gorgeous!! I feel like there hasn’t been a lot of blue in the blogosphere recently, and you’re definitely rocking it HARD. Love the look!
Thanks, Rae! So happy you enjoyed it 🙂 Are you picking up anything from Love Lace? I know you seemed to like the promo image for it!
Hmm, I’m not sure yet. Hypnotizing and Intricate Frost both look gorgeous, but I’m going to see if I can find time to look at the collection in-person first!
I hope you can see ’em soon, Rae!
Now I really gotta get those eye shadows 😉 The counter I usually go to didn’t have them out yet, so I’ll try again on Monday.
Call before you go, so you don’t waste a trip 😀 I always do this, since they’re so spotty with releases sometimes!
Yea, it gets confusing! & incredibly annoying when they sell out of stuff before the former official launch date. I live about 5 minutes away (driving) from a counter and a store, so hopefully one of the two have it out tomorrow 🙂 If they don’t have it out, I’m going to be at the mall on the 26th for Boxing Day shopping (& Warm & Cozy of course).
Oh, bless your heart for venturing out on the 26th. I ordered off of the website & overnighted Warm & Cozy with hopes it’ll be here by the 26th!
I skipped all the Love Lace eyeshadows because I wasn’t impressed with all the coolness and frostiness of the colours, but the colours look pretty on you. On your skin Suave Intentions reminds me of Mutiny pigment. I am considering Sense of Style liner though.
Thanks, Amy 🙂 This collection is decidedly cool, but Warm & Cozy is pretty warm, so I guess it evens out (though Warm & Cozy is a HUGE launch in comparison).
And from now on I will never ever say that blue is so “eighties”, you really took it to 2009, GREAT!
Oh and I love the lips….. coral is my fave!
LOL!
To 2009!
Thank you, Sandra 🙂
Your skills are amazing!
Thank you, Regina 🙂
Awesome look! I picked up utterly discreet lipglass which I kinda love. Are you going to review diorshow extase?
I’ll definitely review it once I’ve tested it thoroughly 🙂
Thank you for responding Christine! It’s amazing how you run this huge phenomenal website and take the time out to respond to every comment 🙂 Extase is in my shopping cart, I’m just waiting on your review so I can place the order. Thanx again!!
Hey Sharon!
What kind of mascara are you looking for?
I’ve worn it two full days now (well, not like 24/7, but twice now, for eight hours a piece, lol!), and it hasn’t flaked, crumbled, or smudged (so good!). It seems to give me good length, just a lil’ thickness, and decent volume. I never liked DiorShow myself, just because it smudged and flaked on me, which wasn’t a very pretty sight.
Welllll I’m kind of a mascara nut. I’m not looking for anything in particular I’m just excited to try it because it’s a new dior mascara. I love the original diorshow, not too crazy about the diorshow unlimited, like blackout a lot but I think it takes too much work to put on without getting clumps (and rarely do I have time for it)and I love diorshow iconic. I’ll order the mascara and let you know how I like it, I’m sure I’ll love it. Thanx Christine!
haha! I get you 😉 It’s a solid mascara from testing so far, not sure if it’s my favorite of all-time though!
I AGREE!!
Gorgeous!!!
Thanks, Mariah!
You look so nice with blue eyeshadow, especially against your dark dark hair 🙂 and sense of style is gorgeous! that is definitely on my list tomorrow!
Thanks so much, Anna!
Christine, can you post dupes for those shadows?
Great look btw
Substitutes: Love Lace = Deep Truth; Suave Intentions = Tilt; Pincurl = Vanilla; Hypnotizing = Shale; Sense of Style = Teal-o
Beautiful look!
Thanks, Heather!
Ahh, love how you make the eyes work on your warm skin. I’m a little darker than you and afraid of these colors, but I’m tempted to give it a shot. I never get tired of your looks, Christine! Love the lips, too!
Thanks, Elle 😉 Sometimes just using a warm cheek & lip is enough to turn cool-eyes wearable!
How close would Vex be to Pincurl? I ask because in most pictures and picture swatches it looks similar.
Vex has green in it, which is why I don’t think it’s a dupe for it… necessarily. Vex really takes on different hues/colors depending on what it’s used with!
This collection was totally made for you, Christine! Love the looks. I am dying to dig in to those shadows!
Thanks a lot, Jen!
How do you like the Dior Extase mascara? Is it better than all of Dior’s other mascaras? I saw it on Sephora under the Beauty Insider specials and was tempted! Just wanted to hear your input 🙂
I’ve only had it for about 24 hours, lol! Too early to say 🙂 Will review it when I’m done testing it though!
Hi Christine,
Very, very pretty! I just saw this collection tonight at Nordstrom and I’m still thinking about Love Lace and Sense of Style pencil. It’s safe to say I will be going back for that.
Thanks, Alexis! 🙂
Sense of Style is probably the closest to a must-have in the launch, but I’m a fan of kohl powers, so…!
You were right the lips are the best part! So pretty.
Thank you!! Chanel does some freakin’ nice lip products!
Definitely getting Love Lace. But do you think Suave Intentions is really similar to Mutiny pigment? Definitely skipping it, if it is a dupe.
I agree with you about sheer lipgloss/lipsticks – don’t like them much either.
I think it has more blue than Mutiny, but they’re similar – though I wouldn’t call them dupes!
WOW…. beautiful!!
Thanks, Sheri!
Christine, this looks awesome on you!!! Too bad I don’t look good in blue eye shadow 🙁 I’ll just have to live vicariously through you lol. But those lips! Wow! Definately making me want to buy those two products 🙂
Aww, thanks so much, Jerilyn 🙂
I love this look! 🙂 It’s really finally helped me decide that I do want the two blue e/s’ – such a great look, and for winter, too 🙂
Can you tell me though, if I wanted to add a 3rd blue/lid colour, to darken the outer V, which would you recommend? Such as a darker blue or anything that goes with these 2 blues in one look 🙂 A couple or so rec’s would be great. Thank you for your help in advance! 🙂
Thanks so much, Teresa! 🙂
I’d say Deep Truth or Naval!
Thank you so much, Christine! 🙂
No prob, Teresa!
btw I just did a nifty combo with hypnotizing on the lid, stars n rockets on the outer corner, and star violet in the crease…haven’t done a highlighting color yet but I was thinking something shimmery like naked lunch would be pretty but hey take your pick LOL
Ohh, that sounds so pretty!!
hi christina i absolutely love your tutorials i visit your site everyday i was wondering if maybe you could do a tutorial with loreal H.I.P. bright duo eyeshadows roaring 234 i find the colors really beautiful and i would really like to try them but i dont know how
I will try to if I can get a hold of that duo!
christine* sorry*
How beautiful! Love how the lips and eyes pair perfectly together. One of my faves!
Thank you, Victoria!
That blush looks amazing on you, it is my favorite and mac style. I usually wear them with mac sandy B lipstick. Love this look on you. Thank you christine.
Thanks a lot, Fabiola!
