Urban Decay. Yes, they take some getting used to and you need to blend FAST, but once you get the hang of it you are golden. They come in a wide variety of colors, go on smoothly and evenly, and last all day. My favorite is Juju, which was, unfortunately, limited edition.

Julia Avatar

Mushroom is like their new Gunmetal. They put it in everything now! I wish they would re-release Juju shadow pencil and Stray Dog liner. I have yet to find a good dupe for either of these.

This past weekend I realized that bad to the bronze by maybelline was the exact same shade as juju (another favorite of mine) and I realized because I just bought bad to the bronze and that day I used juju and I thought wait a minute, so I swatched side by side , probably you need to see it yourself but to me they look really similar.

I tried Milani’s Shadow Eyez pencil in Champagne Toast after reading a review from Christine and fell in love with it! It stays put all day, doesn’t crease, and is a perfect shade for everyday wear. It’s one of my favorite go-to products right now!

I love the color of Milani’s Shadow Eyez pencil in Champagne Toast, but it never seems to blend smoothly on the lid, so I never use it.

I’m really loving all three Rimmel eyeshadow pencils I’ve tried. They are easy to blend, but don’t fade or crease. They even last on my waterline.

Urban Decay is the only one I have tried, and they are just ok. Blending needs to be done super fast.
I do find that they fade and crease on me eventually, even with primer.
They’ve also dried out and the pigment sticks break all the time.

(so why am I posting here? not sure, lol)

for me, it’s a toss-up between the new-ish ones from Sephora and the Tarte ones I got in a set at Xmas (the colours were LE but the pencils themselves are still available in other basic shades). What I love about both of these products is that while they last long without creasing, they are also blendable for a short while after you apply them. The same can’t be said of UD’s 24/7 Shadow Pencils. Those are insanely difficult to blend without pulling on the delicate skin of your lids.

second the vote for tarte’s pencils, i think they are called amazonian clay pencils. amazing lasting pwer, and there is ample time to blend before they set. i bought a back up of that holiday set, they were so good!

Pami Avatar

I got that holiday set of Tarte’s Eyeshadow Pencils, and they feel great going on. So smooth. But what I don’t like is any shade with glitter in it seems to migrate around on my face. I’m not pleased with glitter showing up in places that it wasn’t applied to.

I love the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. I have almost all the colors. They blend nicely if you act fast. I also love them as an eyeliner and to tightline. They last all day for me with no creasing.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow pencils all the way! They’re pigmented and they don’t budge. LOVE them 🙂 A close second favorite would be the Milani eyeshadow pencils.

Someday I’d like to try Urban Decay’s since they have so many great colors, and I love their eyeliner pencils and eye shadows.

Too Faced Perfect Eyes… HANDS DOWN! I have EXTREMELY oily skin/lids. While UD liners set quickly (AND I love the range of colors), they start smudging on me after only a few hours. Too Faced is the only eyeliner (and I’ve tried many) that stays put ALL DAY.

Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eyeshadow Pencil; bought Delinquent when they first came out and ended up buying the brush to go with it. I LOVE the brush to blend the edges out and, as others have said, you need to work fast but its atleast an easy learning curve. I also love NYX’s Jumbo Eye Pencil. Once set with a shadow, you have all day wear. Milk makes a GREAT base for pastels (especially the sheerer ones) and brights. I think I need to grab Black Bean now too. I also use the UD blending brush for the Jumbo Eye pencils, because they’re so sticky they need a synthetic brush.

Danielle Avatar

Urban Decay are great, although I find that I usually reach for them to use as a primer/base, and apply a powder eyeshadow on top.

I realize I’m in the minority here, but I have to go with NARS. I also have to disclose that *nothing* creases on me, *ever*. Admittedly, I haven’t tried many brands, but the few I have tried yield the same result, but I just love the depth & complexity of the NARS shades, and the fact they don’t “dry down” too quickly. I also like the WnW Color Icon pencils, which many don’t, but as I said, I don’t have issues with creasing.

Urban Decay!!!!!!!!
They don’t crease, last forever, awesome colors, I even use them with a brush as eyeliner, it doesn’t smudge or fade. If they were cheaper, would be perfect!

The Tarte 6-pack of chubby shadow pencils that was a holiday release this year. The taupe and old gold/bronzy pencils are absolutely beautiful and wear like iron. Second place goes to Clinique’s; Weeping Willow and Lots of Latte are super easy to use, last for ages and can be built up to provide a deeper color.

UD pencils were my go-to for years despite setting quickly and then smudging within 4 hours on my oily lids. I still love them though 😀 such beautiful colors! As of now, Tarina Tarantino’s hyperliners perform the best for me. No smudging, just fading, which is much better! I’m dying to try out MUFE’s pencils though… *thoughtful, sneaky look*

Bethany Avatar

I just picked up a couple of Pixi’s Endless Silky Eye Pencils. I love them more than UD’s 24/7. They stay just as well but are creamier when appliied and easier to blend. I got Copperglow and True Teal. They are both gorgeous colors, but I will never be without Copperglow!!!

Sunny Avatar

Formula-wise, Tarte and MUFE ones have the best staying power on me. Color selection-wise however, I like Laura Mercier the most so far. I do however, need a primer and pressed shadows on top to make everything last all day!

Laura Mercier Caviar line are the best I have used.. I still use a concealer brush for application, but the colour runs opaque and doesn’t skip like so many others. Texture stays creamy and blendable long enough to allow removal of hard edges. A really good product. Better than any others I have tried included Bobbi Brown which are just okay. I have not tried the new Chanel tho..

NeenaJ Avatar

For all around versatility and staying power, I’ve got to go with Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. MAC Greasepaint Sticks are also very good. I use both over a primer.

Good question as I’ve been wondering the same a lot this week. I’ve yet to find a single one that stays put and doesn’t make my eyes itchy. I will try some of these suggestions. Thanks everyone for sharing.

I love Urban Decay 24/7 pencils-I have five or six of them. They glide on really smoothly and evenly, the color payoff is really great, and they last until you take them off. They also sharpen well-I always put mine in the freezer for a few minutes so I don’t loose as much product in the process. Of all the pencils I’ve tried, I feel like I get the most precise line with Urban’s 24/7. The color selection is amazing as well, there’s one for every look!

I’m all aboard the UD train.

However, a really great line for inexpensive basics is Prestige Intense (Intensity?) liner. It’s smooth and soft, plus you can find it at Rite Aid for less than $5! The downside: They only come in very basic colors.

Aida Avatar

I really like the new Chanel Stylo fresh effect eyeshadow pencils. They glide on beautifully, are very easy to blend with just fingers and they stay put on my lids all day long without any creasing or fading.

nicolet Avatar

I really love the Clinique chubby stick for eyes in ample amber! My second favorite formula belongs to the Laura Mercier caviar sticks. . .but I only have the purple color called orchid, so I don’t get as much use out of it as my more neutral colored chubby stick!

Linh Avatar

Laura Mercier’s Caviar Sticks! The colors are rich and the glowing finish is gorgeous. Once applied, there is plenty of time to blend before it sets. The colors do not crease or smudge and are also not impossible to remove. Love them!

Amber Avatar

The Sephora Collection Jumbo Liner 12HR Wear Waterproof pencils are easy to apply, long wearing, come in a variety of colors and are more affordable than the urban decay shadow pencils.

SandraJT Avatar

Believe it or not, Avon’s Big Color shadow sticks. They are incredibly creamy going on, zero tugging, very pigmented, give you lots of time to blend them out, don’t move or crease once set, and can be used as a smudgeable liner for a smokey eye. And they’re dirt cheap! Nothing I’ve tried compares to them, high end or low end.
