Hit List: Best Concealer for Dark Circles

What’s the Hit List: Best Concealer for Dark Circles that you’ve tried?

Share your pick!  And don’t forget to share why 🙂

Cle de Peau Concealer and IT Cosmetics Bye Bye are my two favorites! They do a great job of concealing without feeling or looking heavy.

i don’t live anywhere near a cle de peau counter.I have seen so many mixed reviews tho. You look pretty young. Ill be 39 in a few weeks. I have heard it can be rather dry. Do you have an opinion about that?Usually u can do the online beauty chat and get a pretty good match.

Tamii Avatar

nicole,

I’m 44 and for the past 5 years I’ve tried every concealor known to man! (And I’m a makeup artist) Cle de Peau is the best concealor I’ve ever tried. Upon first look, it may appear to be dry but it doesn’t go on or feel that way at all. I’m amazed at the way it easily blends into the skin. It’s almost magical.

Wasifa Ahmad Hasan Avatar

Hey Nicole, I ordered mine online…and it matched perfectly! yes, it feels a little dry but you can work with that. It will blend into skin like a second skin and A little amount goes a long way. If I feel my under eye area is a bit dry, I just use Ole Henriksen eye gel before makeup. Hope it helps!

Nicole Avatar

Wasiifa, With the dryness factor, do you feel you need to set with a powder? iido wear an eye cream..I must ( Caudalie eye cru for is my go to at this point). I am sure that will be an experiment for me. How did you decide your color? Did you go lighter for under your eyes or match your skin, let the consultant do it? It is so pricey. i don’t wanna mess it up. Although, it’s comforting that Nordstom has it and they are super easy with returns and exchanges. I do not like that mine is so lame with the limit of counters..no Tom Ford,Guerlain,or Cle de peau! I live in an are where a lot of upscale people shop too..( I am not..I am average. I just spend all my spare $ on beauty stuff cause its my thing :),lol) Thanks for your help! I saw this on you tube and though..hmm..looks nice..looks like a good amount of product too. So, i think the price is justifiable.

Wasifa Ahmad Hasan Avatar

Hey Nicole! Yes I set it lightly with a setting powder…and it stays on for a long time with zero dryness!
For the shade, actually I gambled a bit and searched online for swatches, comparisons etc. I do not have any stores near me carrying this, so I had to do all of these online…and I am glad that the shade matched completely….just the way I want my undereye area to be.

Nicole Avatar

Thank you for your reply Wasifa! It’s so funny because I orderd “ochre” based on the advice of the online beauty advisor from Nordstrom. I actaully just got done dealing with the exchange, lol! It is too dark for my undereye. All I did was call and the beauty advisor is sending me a a lighter shade and a prepaid label so I can drop that one at the post office and hopefully it will work out fr me. I did pop some on. I can tell the consistency is nice and pigmented, yet not at all heavy. I was really surprised how much is in the tube. that will last forever! Good thing at $70! Thanks for posting about this. I just had come to think I would have to look tired all the time, lol!

I love the natural coverage of the MAC PLC, but for some reason it always ends up settling into fine lines. It doesn’t matter what I use under/over/with it, it always settles. Have you ever had this issue?

Andrew Avatar

There’s an awesome product from Cargo that’s a 2-in-1 foundation and concealer that gives great coverage with a natural finish. Set with powder it lasts all day without creasing, fading, or settling into lines.

Nicole Avatar

I recently saw a small display of Cargo at Macys..literally 2 things. i ddn’t even think Cargo was around anymore. id love to see it, along with The Balm make a comeback! As long as they keep the products up to par..I love the packaging, lol!

Nicole Avatar

sweet! I know amazon has had a lot of The balm discounted lately too. i was really tempted to pick up some of thier stuff. But, I way over bought during that artic blast last week..packages still coming in,lol! I own nothing for the Balm or Cargo ..not even Cindy-lou or Mary-lou..those gals are up on top of my wants list. Cutest packaging and names. The customer reviews a re 4-5 stars on Amazon for most of the Balm stuff. I didnt look into cargo too much. But, cargo was around in my 20’s! Im almost 39! wonder if they have updated…just a thought. Maybe Christine will get some fun The Balm and Cargo in for summer! after she catches er breath from the spring lines! 🙂 The eye palette “meet Matt” is hilarious!

Vera Avatar

Haha YES! I have definitely done this before–gone to work with ridiculously dark circles (but makeup everywhere else, just to emphasize the darkness) so no one can blame me when I don’t get s@#$ done during the day.

Grace Avatar

I have really bad dark circles… Tarte maracuja creaseless concealer works well. Stays put and no creasing just as long as set it with light powder right after.
warm it up between your fingers … tap tap tap under they eyes… and powder it up and it last all day!!!

Veronica Avatar

Benefit Lemon Aid is a good corrector, as is MAC’s cream concealer. They don’t generally budge much provided you set them with powder, which is important because my eye shape naturally has a lot of layers and folds in the under eye area (which I’m sure will just worsen with age). However, I’ve yet to find an HG product, particularly one that doesn’t require powder to keep it from seeping into lines. I’ve also noticed that my skin is getting drier in the winter months as I age, so using an eye cream is absolutely necessary, even if it’s applied the night before.

Sherri Avatar

I really like the MAC Prolongwear concealer, but sometimes it does settle into my fine lines if I’m not careful. I thought the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Underwear was awesome, but it creased so bad in my fine lines I won’t purchase the full-size (I bought a sample size at Ulta).

Mariella Avatar

Clarins and IT Cosmetics. I’d like to try CdeP but I don’t have a counter anywhere at all near where I live and I won’t “risk” buying online (and the shipping is bound to be ridiculous on an already pricey item). I also do like MAC ProLongwear a lot but it’s really slipped to the back of the shelf in favour of the other 2 I mentioned.

helen Avatar

I have been a big Cle de Peau concealer fan forever but i’ve recently started to check out more ‘green friendly’ cosmetics. I’ve stumbled upon RMS products and i’m really thrilled with them (have now purchased the luminizer as well as lip2cheek product).
The ‘un’cover concealer is jam packed with great ingredients the results are lovely, glow without looking greasy (my skin is on the oiler side). It takes some getting used to (warm up with hands, use a small amount and then build and then set with a hint of powder). This un-cover is also great as foundation (and a small amount goes a long way!) but it’s a tad expensive for that. So far, so good!

kjh Avatar

How do you figure out the color w/ RMS? I got one through Beuatylish + was all wrong. Such a nice formula, I had to regift it. Expensive mistake, w/ no easy remedy.

helen Avatar

Actually, there are a couple of stores that carry the line here in Canada. There is even one Health Food Store chain (Nature’s Emporium) that carries RMS (as well as Sappho – another Canadian line) which is so helpful. Whole Foods may even carry the brand, not sure.
My skin tone is similar to Christine’s so i chose #22 and it seems to melt into my skin very well. Hope this helps.

Rachel Avatar

I have very dark circles due to suborbital volume deficiency and the best I’ve found is Benefit Boi-ing and Rimmel Wake Me Up. I still need to use Pixi’s corrector first.

Julene Avatar

I LOOOOVVVVE Mac’s Prep + Prime Highlighting Pen in Peach Lustre. Then I top that with their Pro Longwear Concealer. The pen colour corrects my blue-based dark circles, then the concealer brings back my colour and the finish is not oily!

Rachel R. Avatar

I don’t need concealer for dark circles very frequently, so I haven’t tried/invested in anything high end. I use e.l.f. Studio HD Concealer in Brightening, and it does an amazing job when I have dark circles from insomnia.

If my eyelids are dark, too, I use UD Primer Potion in Greed to help counteract the purple and brighten the skin a bit before applying my eyeshadow.

AndreaK Avatar

My under eye area is just terribly dry… And most concealers end up making me look even more tired and older. Until I got the By Terry Terryblys concealer. Puuuuuurrrrfect. Never settles into fine lines, great coverage, and has skin care properties. The peachiness of it covers any darkness and does a great job brighting the area. Expensive, sure, but works wonders.

Arianna Avatar

I really love L’Oreal Infallible concealer, the one in stick form. Very light texture, blends like a dream and sets well without going into any crease. Coverage is I would say a 8.5/10, which is brilliant for everyday, as something I would rate higher coverage would be more of a camouflage type product..

Michelle Avatar

CoverBlend by Exuviance! Mega coverage, blends beautifully, sets to a second skin finish and is the only one I have found that doesn’t settle into creases on my oily skin. I swear with regular use it even smoothes out the milia under my eye a bit. Definitely my HG!

Nicole Avatar

I prefer Armani’s orange corrector,a verr small amount lightly blended only on the circle itself. Then I pat Givenchy Mr Smooth about 2 -3 shades lighter than my skin under my inner eye and down a little ..in a small triangle shape. I don’t put concealer or powder on the outer under eye ..just emphasizes lines. I lightly set with a fine powder..usually HG ambient in the whitish shade, meteorites, or whatever setting powder I am using at the moment.

Mar Avatar

I loooooove Laura Mercier high coverage concealer (the one that comes in a tube). It not only erases my dark circles, but also de-puffs my eyes. I initially had difficulty in applying as the formula is a bit dry and thick (I just mix it with eye cream, tap it on and then spread using my damp sponge). A little goes a long way. The result is well worth the trouble! This is a highly pigmented formula. This is for those days when you’re not in a hurry.

Natalie Avatar

I use Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage under my eyes! It’s a pretty dry product on its own, so I apply is using the pads of my fingers to warm it up a bit and gently pat it under my eyes.

Bluumoons Avatar

Tarte CC corrector is my new HG for undereye circles. I got it in the darker shade and it really hides my circles and stays put all day. the darker matches my skin color so my face looks more even in tone.

kellly Avatar

I am a real sucker for buying/trying new concealers and will try almost any drugstore (ie inexpensive) concealer under the sun. The one I keep going back to is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind with the little fuzzy domed applicator thing. It conceals, doesn’t settle into fine lines and even seems to stay put without having to apply powder or anything else over it. It seems to work the best for me, but nevertheless, that doesn’t stop me from springing for whatever newest product is out there. I still keep going back to the Maybelline, tho.

silverraindropps Avatar

I guess I’m the only one that does this but I have really bad hereditary darkness under my eyes. I use a coral/orange cream blush from ELF (light taps), then benefits erase paste, then benefits boing. I set it after foundation with Bare minerals mineral veil. Then take a qtip and remove anything that set on mu fine lines. Works like a charm but as you could imagine, it takes time.

Laura Avatar

Dark circles have only recently become a problem for me (sometimes I think I may just need more sleep…). I’ve been using NYX’s full coverage concealer and Neutrogena’s 3-in1 undereye concealer recently and they’re been ok at covering my dark circles, but I find them too drying. I’ve also tried Hourglass, Nars, and Dior concealers which I also found to be too dry or too creamy it would settle into the lines under my eyes even if I set with a powder afterwards. Any suggestions for a more moisturizing concealer that isn’t too creamy/heavy?

tzwiggy Avatar

I have extremely dark circles. The only two that works for me (that I’ve tried so far – and I have tried a lot!) is NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer.

Cle de Peau is one of the worst that I’ve tried. 🙁 I need a LOT of it to cover and then it ends up looking cakey and settles into lines.

I should probably also mention that I have very oily skin and cream products tend slide around a lot if I don’t use a good setting powder.

kjh Avatar

I’ve had genetic dark circles since before most of you were born, even in pictures from the fourth grade. They are actually LESS noticeable as aging has caused skin to become less translucent. Makes sense, really. Went to heaven, when the correctors came out. IT corrector (not Bye Bye: looks like slip clay on me) Erase Paste, and as of now, Eve Pearl dual salmon in lt/med. Played with the other benefits yesterday. lemon aid up close looks like yellow on top of bruise. boing is probably too old for good action. haven’t tried MAC P/L or Cle.. i suspect either would be good for concealing, but i NEED the correcting step. Judith August made a pretty good one 100 years ago. right now, i sometimes use serum, moisturizer (can you tell i’m a Paula’s Choice convert?) then smashbox concealer primer, then Eve Pearl, then walk the dog, then PC resist blah blah (really a TM.) If it needs setting later, MUFE HD, usually. If i’m not wearing eye makeup (day job is verrrry dress down) I don’t set it. will add MAC P/L to arsenal, which needs pruning. cle? maybe. it seems, if i HAVE to do the corrector + can do without the ‘corrector neutralizer,’ why add another step? i already spend more time on concealer than i do on my hair for the week!

Katherine T. Avatar

I agree with the IT Bye Bye and Cle De Peau, which is hideously expensive but covers and blends like a dream. My undereye is kind of dry, and Cle De Peau melts into the skin without settling into fine lines. That $70 stick will last you years and years, because a little goes a long way…. For my upper lids, they are oily, so I use BareMinerals Advanced BB Cream SFP 15 in Linen, which soaks up oil and matches my skintone, so it acts as both concealer and shadow primer.

Ya know that FB post with Michael Jackson saying: “I just came here to read the comments.”? Well, at nearly 56 y.o., I am REALLY reading all the comments in hopes of finding my HG under eye concealer! My old standbys are just not doing it for me lately *sigh* , settling into fine lines is so NOT the look I’m going for! Any suggestions are welcome.

Nancy T Avatar

Now I have some awesome recommendations from this post! Ones that I now want to try are Bobbie Brown peach toned one, Maybelline Fit Me, and most definitely, MAC Pro Longwear. Perhaps LA Girl too! Thank you everyone!

calimom Avatar

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind eraser (with the sponge tip) is my HG because it is thin yet covers everything. And I’ve had dark circles my whole life and have tried many, many concealers.

Laura_Lou Avatar

At the moment I use Bobbi Brown creamy concealer/ corrector duo, Benefit erase paste or Illamasqua skin base lift. I wouldn’t say any of them was really amazing for hidingmy dark circles. I’m really pale (think Bobbi Brown alabaster/porcelain) so my circles show up really bad. Being in the UK there’s a lot of brands that I can’t really get hold of very easily.

beka Avatar

i recently got cle de beau’s concealer and i really like it. i have to be careful not to use too much, or else it will crease and look dry, but it’s the best i’ve found. the ivory shade is perfect. its pale enough, but not so pale that i look grey! if it’s a bad undereye day, i’ll use the orange armani corrector first. sometimes i’ll add a more illuminating concealer on top of the cle (guerlain precious lights or armani high precision retouch)

Gillian Avatar

For me it has to be the Laura Mercier Secret Concealer. It has a nice peachy undertone that cancels out dark circles really well. I also like the Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener as long as I leave it to set then gently blend the edges to get the most coverage out of it.The Laura Mercier concealer is a better colour and coverage but the Bobbi Brown concealer sets and doesn’t crease at all on me so that’s the one I tend to use.

LMM Avatar

The combination of two Maybelline products – the Instant Age Rewind in Brightener and the Fit Me concealer – has really worked for me lately. I’ve heard comparisons of Fit Me to the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer, but I haven’t tried that product myself.

Karen Avatar

Bobbi Brown corrector in Bisque (a salmon colour) is the best product for my dark circles without settling in wrinkles and making me look older.

Vera Avatar

I can’t say I’ve found my HG under-eye concealer, though I do have a few faves. Laura Mercier Secret Concealer is the best I’ve found for canceling out my super blue/purple Italian circles (NC15/20) skin), and I like that it’s creamy/moisturizing but of course that means it also settles into fine lines (powder minimizes but doesn’t totally solve the problem). Bobbi Brown corrector in the peach shades is nearly identical; just a tiny-bit waxier of a consistency. MAC ProLongwear is another love..great coverage but I still need a corrector underneath to cancel out the circles (and it settles into fine lines, but only a little bit…not as badly as the LM or BB). I refuse to try CDP because it’s so damn expensive and I know I’ll fall in love with it! NARS Creamy Concealer, Maybelline FitMe, and IT Byebye Undereye are all on my list of need-to-tries:) I just wish I could find a one-step, no powder or second product needed concealer…is that so much to ask?!?

Caz Avatar

Maqpro fard creme in 131 or 141 work as amazing correctors for me. I’ve always had very dark circles and this is the only thing I’ve ever tried that really, really makes a difference.

Larrah Avatar

I wholeheartedly second the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye. For years and years and years, I was always buying and trying concealers that would cover my purplish under-eye AND not crease. Thank the beauty gods I found IT Cosmetics. No more wasting money on anything else! 🙂 Totally recommend this, ladies!

Beatrix Avatar

Cle de Peau concealor is the BEST!
It blends beautifully & lasts all day without fading or creasing & there is no need to set with powder.
If your under eye area is dry I’d try Benefit Fake Up, it is super moisturizing.

Diana Avatar

I tend to have dark brown blue under eye circles so peach and salmon correctors are my bffs. I really like the Bobbi Brown peach corrector, I can usually get away with just the corrector on its own. On really bad days, I layer either LA Girl Pro Concealer in Pure Beige or Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Medium on top for additional coverage. I always set my concealer with a tiny, like barely any, RCMA Colorless powder to stop it from creasing and migrating. I’ve yet to find a concealer I don’t have to set…everything seems creases on me. I also really like Erase Paste, its like a correct + concealer all in one, but mine is nowhere to be found at the moment, its probably rolled under my bed…or my dog stole it.
