I’ve done that with various MSFs!

Uh, yeah. Mostly eyeshadows I didn’t think I’d ever use even though I loved the colors in the store. Then I’d see looks using those colors I gave away and end up repurchasing them.

Yes! Most notably, Your Ladyship pigment. I hated it at first because of glitter fallout. But after returning I pined and pined for it. I found it by chance half a year later and now it’s my favorite pigment!! Good question Mais!

OMG! I just became the luckiest MAC attacker in the entire universe! I just scored via buy it now on eBay a brand new, mint, in box tube of Hot + Sour paint. Now, if you are new to MAC you will have absolutely no idea what I am talking about, however, those of you old enough to remember the Cuisine collection released in March of 2001 will be envious for certain! The best part about the entire deal is it was less than 25 bucks! nothing better than that, hands down, that even tops my $250 presell purchase of Venomous Villians! HANDS DOWN!!!!!

Unfortunately, yes. I recently did that with a MUFE foundation. I hated it, but a visiting MUFE rep plus some info I found on a makeup blog specific to application of the product convinced me to try it again with a different brush and application technique. Worked like a charm and I wore it all summer. I guess I have to experiment more before giving up.

Yep, before I got into Urban Decay, I bought the set of lipglosses in a set with poker cards (can’t remember the name of it) on a whim because it was on offer. I didn’t use it, so gave it away to my friend’s teenage daughters. I’ve since managed to track down and purchase another, although at a higher price than the original

lol yes! i can’t recall what it was but i know at least a few times i’ve been paying for something thinking either, “why did i return this the first time?” or “why am i getting this again?” lol

mac mineralize liquid foundation! there’s one! haha! i knew i could think of one if i thought hard enough! 🙂

Eyeshadows, lipglosses, and lipsticks. I used to feel guilty for spending hundreds on them because I didn’t use them–they just sat there on my make-up counter and accumulated so I’d sell them or return them, only to re-buy them later for more on e-Bay. I’ve given up now and have openly accepted that I love to collect make-up. Even my husband seems to have gotten over it.

I once traded my sister Goldmine for Gorgeous Gold, then later realized I needed Goldmine for a look I love to wear with my yellow shirt, so 2 weeks later or so I bought Goldmine LOL

Bare Escentuals mineral makeup. I know the gurus keep insisting it’s good for acne prone skin etc. I got one but the colour didn’t match so I gave away. Got another but noticed that it looked really unnatural and didn’t blend on me so even though it was the right colour I gave that oen away too. Sorry gurus but BE is just not for me.

I actually used to work at a high-end makeup store and NO makeup artist had anything good to say about their foundation. I don’t like it either! I don’t know why it is so raved about. There are plenty of foundations that are just as natural and pure and do a way better job. The company has just had a great mass appeal and a good marketing campaign. Their products are so-so.

The only thing I recall swapping away and then swapping for it again is Light Flush MSF (it was only a back up, mind), I don’t think there’s anything else. I tend to hang on to things until I’m really sure I don’t want them.

I haven’t to be honest! I have bought tons of Dennis Anderson (on etsy) lipbalm and given one of them to my brother… They’re so much better than drugstore lipbalm!

I wish I had returned the Grease Sticks from MAC’s Art Supplies Collection. It is so hard to work with and too much black in the color.

I have given away some stuff to a friend or my sister if I got bored with it.

I went on a bit of a “limited edition” bender this past year. I’ve given away a couple lipsticks that I will just never use as well as various foundations, creams, etc. If I don’t use it within 4-6 months, I give it to a family member or close friend. If it was absolutely awful right out of the store, I’ll return it if possible. I did that recently with the Nars Hungry Heart duo. It was a powdery glittery mess for C$54. Not sure what I was thinking, but I came to with enough time to return!

I think I mostly do this with skincare.
I try cleansers or moisturizers think I don’t like them – but then repurchase them to try again.
I’ve done it with Philosphy Purity Cleanser and Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser, and Murad Skin Perfecting Moisturizer.

I returned them – then realized I really liked them – and have repurchased multiple times.

Mac pearl glide intense the burgundy one didn’t do anything for me gave it to a friend. Mac mouth off lipliner I don’t do lipliners and looked clownish on me gave to a friend. Benefit powderflauge after I baought it I didn’t think it was worth the price for what it is or that I needed it returned it got mufe hd powder instead

Estee Lauder moisturizer (the hydrating one in the blue pot), bought it a few years ago, convinced myself I loved it (it was nice to use, though the smell really got to me after a while) but after 2 weeks it got shunted to the overflow cupboard and then given away to my Mum when I did a clean out a month later.
Bought it again 2 months ago as part of a special deal with 3 bonus products (NONE of which I actually use, darn it all) and discovered that my skin has changed and it doesn’t agree with me at all and no, I still don’t like the smell… so I gave it away again, to my best friend this time and she was stoked.
At least someone likes it!

I’ve purchased and returned Dior Pure Poison perfume twice. It smells so nice on the tester strips but has absolutely no scent at all on me. Thank goodness for Sephora’s return anything policy!

Petticoat MSF. The first one I had, I swapped it away, because I thought it was too frosty. Then I found it at a mac warehouse sale a few months later, and I picked it up.. welll… just because it’s a sought-after item. I ended up giving it a try and I do like it better the second time around. I’ve been wearing it once in a while, but I’m not positive it’s a permanent keeper.

YES! This was during my first month of my MAC obsession…The artist had recommended Shroom e/s to me as a highlighter. 2 days later I return it…Then about 4 or 5 months later, I saw a post from Temptalia.com about Nordstrom’s buy 3 e/s and get Shroom free. Now I love it and is my favorite highlighter either on my brow bone or the inner corner or my eye.

Samantha Avatar

Nope. I really am a makeup hoarder!! I rarely return anything anyway.. but I so many mac products especially That I’ve never used.. or only used once or twice that I still wouldn’t want to part with. It’s sad really.

aradhana Avatar

yes…i did that with shimmermoss eyeshadow, which i never use to wear the first time around…then for a while i thought i was going to go all neutral but how could i forget about bold colours? not possible. so i ended up repurchasing this past summer with the to the beach collection.

i’ve also had to repurchase a couple of ‘borrowed’ eyeshadows, like mac ricepaper and quo mystery.

it’s funny one of the previous responses mentioned hot & sour paint…i actually back to mac-ed that a long time ago, but now i wish i had kept it!! i think i took it back in 2005 or something, and i remember the mua’s at the time were so fascinated by it because at that time it was already a rare item i guess!

I always give things to friends and sometimes I’ll return things if I don’t absolutely love them, but then as soon as I see them all at the makeup counter glistening in their little compacts, I swatch them again & then end up re-purchasing them… I love re-purchasing things also because my tastes really do tend to change a lot… But for the most part I keep most of the things I buy… I love collecting makeup and I know I’ll eventually like everything 🙂

Maria Avatar

NARS Albatross. While I do love that glow that this highlighting blush gives, the first time I bought it I thought it emphasized my large pores way too much and was embarrassed to return it at Sephora. I repurchased it three months later and I am in love with it now!

Sharron Avatar

MUFE HD Primer. Didn’t work for me at all the first time around, so back to Sephora it went. After completely revamping my skincare routine, I tried it again and discovered that it makes a fantastic daytime moisturizer.
