Rarely and mostly a limited collection: Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson ‘Miss Kensington’ look (gave a good selection of CT makeup products) and Wayne Goss Anniversary Brush Set (my 1st full set brush upgrade) come to mind.
The only time I can think of is when I bought all of MAC’S Look In A Box sets recently, but that would be as close as I have come to buying everything in a release.
No I haven’t. I don’t think I ever would. I have very pale skin and most products are not going to work for me and I really don’t like spending money on things that won’t work for me. I have a couple of palettes that I purchased many years ago that have more than a few shades that just don’t work for me. I have learned from those experiences and try to spend my money on things that work and that I know I will use.
Nope, not quite, but I came darn close with the MAC x Selena collection! Other than that, nothing else that I can recall.
Nope. Considering there is good and bad products in ALL lines regardless of price point, I’d think that be a waste of money. Besides I like sampling a variety of brands from every and any store that sells makeup!
No, but I find myself tempted to do so with the UD Basquiat collection
Never and I don’t think I will. I wouldn’t buy a vault for a product/range I haven’t yet tried, and if I already own several products from said range, I wouldn’t want to buy them again in a set.
I haven’t, but sometimes when the value but is there it is tempting… like for example I somehow own exactly zero UD naked palettes… so when they offer up a set of everything all at once, it’s crazy tempting!! the all-at-once price is usually what kills it tho, cause even really good deals are outside my normal budget!!
Yes I did, but that was a long, long time ago. I have gotten smarter with my shopping habits and only buy what I actually will use.
I have such a marked preference for cooler tones (in lip and cheek products) that far too much in a “vault” type release would just not appeal to me. Also – and maybe others can relate to this – for $200 or 300, I would get a lot more enjoyment spending that amount here and there on individual purchases – 2 eyeshadows and a liner one week, a lipstick and highlighter the next. I would simply enjoy it all much more but it would also be a lot more practical for me. Getting 20 or 40 lipsticks all at once (even if they were all shades I would wear) wouldn’t equal more enjoyment than the purchase of one or two lipsticks and, added to that, the glut of products all at one time would be overwhelming to me.
What you said. The thought of a vault or a full collection (at least a large one) makes me anxious to just consider. 🙂 Plus, I agree it’s much more fun to buy a la carte. Pick and choose. Consider and indulge. Experiment and learn how to use what you buy. Feed the beast in dribs and drabs. Those are also my reasons to void mega anything.
Linda, it’s interesting, in reading all the replies here, that so very few (if any) of us have purchased those vault or mega collection things. I think it goes without saying that most, if not all, of us are pretty dyed in the wool makeup lovers and yet almost everyone has answered this question in the negative.
Yes, I bought the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick set that had minis of all the colors. I don’t think I would have bought it if they were full size– so much product. Somehow minis are less intimidating.
Unfortunately the color I most wanted to try was discontinued before that set came out, but overall I’m happy with the purchase.
Not yet! But I’m thinking about it.
Not yet! But I’m thinking about it. I have almost all of the Urban Decay Revolution Sheer Lipsticks. I don’t have Sheer Bittersweet – but I’m thinking about it.
No. Not even close. Even in my former days of excess.
Never. There have been sets I’ve been vaguely interested in, but my interest and need have never been high enough to justify that kind of purchase.
I’ve never purchased a vault, and I doubt I ever will. The problem with the vault releases (IMO) is that they come out long after the individual products. By the time a ‘vault’ is released, if I wanted anything from that line, I’ve already bought it. So everything else included in the vault is the stuff I didn’t want. In my eyes, it’s like spending $200+ to own stuff I didn’t really want in the first place. I’d rather spend that money on individual things I actually want. Lipstick sets are the ones that come to mind (UD, Bite, and KVD’s ELL set). Realistically I would only wear a few of the colours out of the entire set, so what it the point in owning them all? It would be such a waste (both of product and money).
I could see myself buying all the products in a line, but even then, there will probably be some shades I don’t like. I don’t feel he need to own these just for the sake of having a complete collection.
I would like to buy the Urban Decay Naked vault because I have none of the Naked palettes, but they weren’t available in my county. I would have bought the Kat von D shade+light vault, but Sephora had their 20% off before that product was released here or even confirmed to be available here and so I just got the eye palette, a quad and the eye brush. Sometimes I wish I had waited for the vault, but oh well.
I have never bought a megaset or vault. They’re too expensive and usually have several products I already own and/or can’t wear.
I have bought all the products in a smaller line/collection. For example: I have all the UD Vintage Vault Vice Lipsticks, the UD Alice TTLG Collection, the UD Pulp Fiction collection; all the Wet n Wild MegaLast and Silk Finish Lipsticks, all of several of e.l.f.’s color cosmetic lines (blushes, Matte Lip Colors, Baked Highlighters, their old $1 eyeshadow singles, etc.).
Nope! Just smaller sets and palettes. Being cool and fair, I find it’s really hard to pull off every shade in a line of products.
OMG never. Sometimes I’d love to but I’ve got student loans and medical bills.
I purchased the Dior colour gradiation collection and I love it. Never a vault collection not sure what that means. But it is rare that I purchase the whole collection I usually pick up one or two items from a collection unless I really like everything but that is rare. I won’t even pick up a palette if I’m not crazy about everything in the palette.
Not anymore. My first fiasco at that was buying a complete line of facial products from cleansing to eye gel which I had an allergic reaction to. My eyes were awful and it was expensive. When I tried to return the eye gel the sales clerk accused me of just wanting some of my money back which prompted me to call the manager and he knew immediately when he saw my eyes. Shame in her. The skin was peeling off my eyes, they were burnt looking and raw.
I honestly don’t know why some sales staff take it so personally when you return goods, especially in your situation. As if you would prefer your eyes to react to the product like this – what was wrong with her?
Yes, I bought the Zoeva Graphic Eyes Box Vol. 2 and I have used every single one of them. I did end up with a dupe of the Nude Reflection pencil, but I use that one a lot anyway. And I discovered a deep and abiding love for Rock ‘N Roll Bride, I love the 2 red sades as well.
I got the Plaisir box of chocolate themed eyeshadows as well, and I love it.
No but I wanted several times. But in Germany we have not all the brands that offer such sets. We only have urban decay now but I am not interested in the UD vaults.
The ones I was interested in were only available in the USA or maybe Canada, too, but it would be too expensive to buy for me.
1. they Are expensive because of the number of products which would be ok for me
2. the package would be very big and heavy which would cost a lot of money to send to Germany
3. high price means also high custom fees
So I think I will never buy a big set etc. which is very dissapointing because they often have a very nice box and look very good. For example the Kat von D liquid lipstick set looks sooo good when you open it.
If I had the money I think I would buy all products of all mac collections. I buy a lot of Mac but being able to buy everything would be a dream for me.
No.I might buy a set of minis like that one gal but otherwise doubt it. I like looking at the pretty colors but in my heart of hearts I know I wouldn’t wear a lot of it. I would like to get out of my comfort zone with some colors as a whole I hate waste.
I have a couple of times just recently bought almost the entire Spring set from WetnWild except the cutsey hearts lipstick case (although tempted but no use for me thinking of my 16 year old beautiful niece) and the kabuki brush I tried all the stick highliters, blushes and soft eyeshadow trios and they are working great since I’m very cool toned. Purchased a few Clourpop Spring eyeshadows set also my birthday is coming up just for fun. They’ll be excellent this Spring and Summer indeed. But that will be my last. I have enough to last me for two lives and then some. Too many repeats of black shades or too dark brown that do not look good on me. I’m concentrating on skin care now that I’m getting older and better quality overall. But there’s always beauty shopping to do with pleasure.
I’ve never bought a vault or mega set. Most of the lines I wear don’t release things like that and I’m okay with that. I have picked up full collections; mostly Cle de Peau’s holiday sets or Chantecaille’s seasonal releases which are usually 1-4 pieces overall. In the beginning I used to susscribe to the idea of a full skincare range from a line, but I haven’t done that in ages – I like to mix and match. That being said, I probably have nearly the entire line of Cle de Peau skincare and possibly Chantecaille as well, but only after using individual pieces and slowly expanding for what I need.
I bought the Kat Von D Shade and Light Vault, and the Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick Obsession Vault this year, I had been eyeing them at christmas but couldn’t justify the price, then they went on Sale so I bought them! So glad I did! I had wanted to buy Kat Von D Shade and Light Sets, but already had plenty of eyeshadow and contour products, with the savings at buying it as a vault – well it was worth it, and I havn’t felt the urge to buy any other palettes after such a big haul, so far this year- so thats also a good thing I guess! I’m from Australia, so if we do see the the Urban Decay Basiquat Vault I may be tempted to purchase that too! I love the cohesiveness and completeness via owning a whole collection, not to mention the limited edition packaging that comes with Vaults.
I am from Australia as well, and I find that we do have limited outlets to purchase makeup from, so I can really understand why you bought the Kat Von D vaults.
The only times I wanted a full set/line of something was when Urban Decay put out their naked palette vault. It sold out way faster than I could get my hands on it. The other was this past holiday season when NYX put out their soft matte lip cream vault. I almost caved & got it but I already have 7-8 of them & couldn’t justify it. It’s nice to have a full line of your favourite lipsticks or something but still seems the best merhod is just to buy shades of what I like best & get them on sale/use coupons, whatever.
I tried to purchase the UD vault for my younger daughter but it sold out. I hope this is what you mean?
Never, ever – I know I couldn’t afford it, even if I wanted to. But really it’s because I generally don’t like every shade in a collection. It would be a waste of money.
I have never bought a full set of anything. Most of the time there are too many things in it I wouldn’t or couldn’t use. A couple of my friends and I have considered buying the UD Mother Lode together and then dividing up the shadows, because most of us would want different shades. However, I am soooooo tempted with UD vault of eye pencils. I would use all of them. It’s just putting out all that money at once that makes it hard to swallow.
No, but once I’ve purchased all the colors that appeal to me I will have created a “vault” or mega set of my own. Then the brand launches a vault, go figure!
No and I’ve never really been tempted to either because I’m not a blogger, vlogger or even a collector. I have more than enough makeup just buying individual shades that work for me I can’t even imagine what my stash would look like if I bought vaults, whole lines or even a collection.
I’ve only ever bought one and that was the MUFE eyeliner vault just before Christmas. I didn’t have any of the eyeliners and buying the vault worked out to buying the eyeliners cheaper than $17 a piece and now I have all the colors to play with and no regrets.
Oh my gosh, No! Does anyone really do that? So expensive! But I have one line that if I won the lottery (the BIG one) I would buy their next vault.
In 2011 I bought the Urban Decay 15th anniversary eyeliner vault set for $90-something, which is honestly a great deal for 15 eyeliners but I never used half of them. I put the colored ones in my kit so it wasn’t a total waste, but I was planning on using them all on me, so in that regard it wasn’t a good deal at all.
Yes, Urban Decay’s Naked vault and also later their 20th anniversary vault. I was just getting into makeup when I got the Naked vault, barely had any eyeshadow so it was a good purchase for me. The 20th anniversary set was probably less of a good buy but I couldn’t resist — but at least I managed to hold out until Ulta’s 20% off sale for it.
Once, it was the Colourpop 90’s collection. Absolutely no regrets!
Rarely, but I have a couple times. Usually its because I really do see a good number of colors that will work on me AND I can see using the others on models I photograph/work with. Since I shoot a lot of ethnic models, I can justify vaults/collections/mega palettes with additional shades more flattering to darker skinned women in addition to the ones ‘i like’
I have done this with drugstore lines, especially Walgreens (where I get a discount), but I don’t have the money to purchase entire collections in medium to higher end makeup. But with drugstore, where the whole collection will likely cost me less than $100, I can and do do this.
