Have you ever completely reversed your opinion of a beauty product?

Occasionally, when I’ve returned to a product, sometimes I find I like it more or less, not so much because the performance actually changed, but I might have found better alternatives since or I’ve used the product in a way that I like the end result – like a sheer product that is supposed to be pigmented might review poorly, but it might layer beautifully over something else and wow me later on.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Yes, I have on more than one occasion. Sometimes even for the same product or type of product. Take liquified lipsticks, for example. When I purchased Bite Mauvember in the liquified formula, I had a horribly embarrassing incident where I looked like Heath Ledger’s Joker at a congregation picnic and swore off on that type of lipstick. Fast forward to Bite’s 50% off on these, I dipped my toe in and bought Jicama in that formula. VERY different experience, in a good way. It and the later addition of Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lipstick in Juicy Date are two of my most effortlessly beautiful everyday shades. Especially when I want a more nourishing, glossy lipstick!

Yes! I bought a few Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliners several years ago and ended up hating them…but this past year I rediscovered these eyeliners, and can’t imagine why I didn’t like them! Mushroom has become a holy grail product for me.

When I bought my first Laura Mercier Caviar Stick (Amethyst) I thought I wasted my money and didn’t touch it for about a year. Then one day, I decided to give it another try…and now I love it so much I bought four more shades over the past year. I think I wasn’t using it the right way at first.

On the other side, I used to swear by Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, but I ditched it for Lancôme Effacernes this year. I think it might be an aging thing, as my under eye skin has become thinner over the years. Shape Tape’s formula is too thick for me now.

The caviar sticks are pretty amazing and I just want to own almost all of them! Khaki, Sand glow, moonlight and cocoa are next on my wishlight.

I wouldn’t say completely reversed, but there were a couple of products I have changed my mind from the first impressions. Mostly, I might not like some products at first, but once I learn how to use them and incorporate them into my routine, I start loving them.
I often change my mind on concealers and foundations, so when I introduce a new product I play around with different techniques, primers, combination, tools (brushes vs. sponge vs. fingers).
With mascaras my opinions seem to kind of reverse a lot, since they sometimes perform totally different at first (when wet) than as they dry out. I do like quite liquid mascara, but even I had ones that I liked better once they started drying out. And there are some favorites I only like for a month or two, since once the formula thickens I start disliking them.
Skincare is another story… usually if something is bad or has impressive results immediately, my opinion stays the same. But there are some treatments and booster I was like… `meah`, they didn’t do anything… and then I stopped using them and realized how much my skin needs them in my routine.

Unfortunately I really liked Bite Beauty’s lipstick and lip masks until I started reacting badly to them (painful, peeling lips are not great) and had to toss them. I’d bought some of the mini lipstick duos a couple years ago and didn’t have a problem wearing them, and used the lip masks for awhile without irritation but all of a sudden my face decided it didn’t like any of it any more. So figuring it was the lanolin in the lip masks I stopped using them and everything healed up nicely but when I tried a new fullsized lipstick I had the same problem after a single day’s use, so I returned it. Only brand that’s ever done that to me.

In happier news I didn’t quite get the popularity of pencil liners and kind of grudgingly used them when I didn’t feel like the hassle of cream or liquid eyeliner til I tried the Urban Decay ones and found out how creamy and easy to apply a good pencil liner can be.

I can’t honestly say I have – I have tried liquid lipsticks, bronzers, highlighters and eye liners in the past and have found either they are too difficult to apply, look awful on me or have hurt my lips, so I have tossed them and not used them again.
Probably the only exception would be cream eyeshadows that I wouldn’t mind giving another go.

Yes, the Laura Mercier Flawless Lumiere Radiance Foundation. The first time I tried it I wasn’t blown away. I gave it another chance this month and WOW! It’s everything I want, my current HG.

Cream products! Some of the beauty bloggers that I started following this year are super into cream products and have me thinking about dipping my toe into the cream world. I used to think that I couldn’t wear cream blush due to my oily skin, but with my skin drying out (thank you aging? or I’m not moisturizing enough, could be either one!) I’m ready to try it out. I currently own a glossier cloud paint in puff when they came to Boston and a mac quiktrik stick duo in all aflush/here you go that I have been loving. Please send me your cream blush recs!

I have definitely changed my opinion of many productts, both makeup and skin care. My skin has changed over the years; less oily and thinner. I also rarely have break outs unless I have a roseacea flare. In addition, my tastes and application skills have improved. All has resulted in discarding some products and revisiting others.
