Rainbow Pearls
Guerlain Rainbow Pearls Meteorites Pearls ($63.00 for 0.80 oz.) is a translucent powder that is supposed to have “six new shades” that “diffuse redness and dark spots” and minimize “areas of shadow” and “counter dullness.” Per the description, it states to use it to “set make-up and revive the complexion.” It seemed to neutralize some of the natural redness in my skin when applied over bare skin (maybe by 10-15%), but when I used it over foundation, the effect wasn’t necessary given that the foundation was doing the heavy lifting anyway. It did more in the way of softening out my natural texture and giving my foundation a soft focus finish without being too flat or too powdery. I don’t think that it did that much to “counter dullness” nor minimize “areas of shadow.”
This limited edition, summer version of the famous Meteorites Pearls is more of a translucent powder that softens skin texture and the look of pores but doesn’t add a lot of noticeable sparkle/shimmer. I’d say more in the vein of delicately shimmered to keep the powder from reading flat or matte on the skin but not actually shimmery or frosted in finish. The pearls yielded a good amount of powder when used with a medium-sized powder brush (I used IT’s Plush Powder brush) without being too dusty in the container. It was violet-scented but the scent didn’t linger noticeably after it was applied.
When it came to setting makeup, the incredibly finely-milled, silky texture of the translucent powder worked particularly well with dewier foundations without taking down the finish too much like more traditional setting powders might. It seemed to extend the life of my foundation by an hour to an hour and a half, which is a little less than a typical setting powder does for me (gets me to about 10-hour of solid wear from my base makeup).
There was a “Rainbow Pearls” that was launched a few years ago (also called Summer Edition), and the two are not the same–this year’s iteration is more neutral and translucent with less sparkle/shimmer.

Hey, if i’m still working on the 1987 originals…and am using them and the HG mood alp daily…I guess these would be overkill. The differences in various meteorites are so subtle that collecting them seems a bit much. If you see the finish better than I do, though, they are gorgeous, and well worth it.
Do you think this will work for all complexions or mainly lighter ones?
I don’t think it’s doing much, so possibly more complexions than strictly light?
I picked this up from Japan as I didn’t want to wait!! I am a Meteorites junkie as you all know. I have found that the scent in this particular release seems much less to me than in my other tins. I was surprised at how little glow this particular product gives off. I think it is much less than what I get from my other meteorites. I feel like this powder has almost an off-white base rather than the white base I am use to . It almost makes my skin look a little maybe tanner. Not sure how to describe it without it sounding bad but it does seem to not have a very brightening effect which is also something I have grown accustomed to in my other meteorites. I do like the shade and will use it but agree with Christine, not that she needs my endorsement of her review, LOL.
I am glad you had a little sign up Christine, because I really couldn’t tell the difference between the two sides of your face. Perhaps it works better when you see it in person.
I do like the sound of this product though – no sparkles/shimmers.
I couldn’t tell the difference either.
I have a classic version of Meteorites Pearls and hardly ever use it, even though it looks lovely, because it is so heavily perfumed. I assume they all are – ?
Yes.
This one actually shows up on your arm, but its effect on your face once applied isn’t as noticeable as previous releases. It seems more dull, as you stated.
If I were super-rich, I’d collect and display these for their gorgeous packaging. Alas, my only experience with Météorites is with a Sephora sample, and will remain that way for the foreseeable future!
I have one full jar and another that’s half full of Guerlain Meteorite Pearls.I love the scent and light ethereal glow they give off on my skin. I use mine at least 4 times a week and still have a lot of product to go. I would repurchase if I ever finish them but I definitely want the glow!
Nunca me faltan. En su versión habitual, con una brocha de pelo muy suelto, si te pasas con el tono del blush y ha quedado muy fuerte, los aplicas sobre el blush suavemente y quedan preciosos. Dan un efecto diferente que me encanta.
When I read the bit about countering redness, I pricked up my eyes but then as I read on, I realized that nice as this is, I’ve already got a Meteorites that I rarely use and these babies are not exactly easy on the budget. If I can get it at the Shoppers Drug Mart in my area that carries Guerlain, I’ll certainly consider it (20% off makes the $77 CDN price tag a bit easier to bear) but otherwise, you’ve saved me a pricey “drawer-sitter”. I got the Hourglass powder a few weeks ago and I think it does much the same in terms of blurring pores and perfecting the look of my skin.
I revisited Hourglass ALPs recently, and I’d agree that they have a similar function – I’d say the ALPs have more “payoff” in a sense. I don’t know if it’s simply because they’re pressed or not, but I don’t question the effect of an ALP as I sometimes do with Meteorites (not all of them–some of them I see the difference).
Is this available in the US yet? Or is it launching later? I can’t seem to find it!
