Guerlain Nuit Merveilleuse (903) Le Vernis Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Nuit Merveilleuse (903) Vernis
Guerlain Nuit Merveilleuse (903) Vernis ($26.00 for 0.34 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark, violet purple with fine, multi-colored shimmer (mostly pink and lighter purple). Rescue Beauty Lounge Pause (LE, $20.00) is more pigmented (95% similar). Illamasqua Poke (P, $17.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Anna Sui Minnie Mouse Midnight Purple (200) (LE, $16.00) is darker (90% similar). Zoya Suri (P, $9.00) is darker, more pigmented, better quality (85% similar). Zoya Belinda (P, $9.00) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Guerlain’s nail lacquer formula is supposed to have “long-lasting color and shine” and is designed to be applied with two coats. I’m a big fan of the formula, but I had an issue with the formula on this particular shade bubbling slightly (three bubbles in total) that was just barely noticeable–initially I didn’t notice, but when I tested it for wear, I did. With a base coat, I didn’t have any issues with bubbling. The consistency is slightly thin but doesn’t pool along the sides of the nail easily. It had good coverage after two coats, and the color applied smoothly and evenly. On me, the color lasted for nine days without chipping, just minor tip wear.

What a beautiful shade, but I don’t see myself picking it up. For some reason I can justify buying higher end makeup and brushes more easily than higher end nail polishes?
You’re definitely not alone! π I think that it is a category that for many, there is little improvement as price goes up. That’s not to say that some see greater improvement with a high-end formula, but from what I’ve gleaned from readers, it just seems more formula by formula (some work better with one person’s body chemistry than another’s) than a result of price!
I love purple!
Always a fun shade for nails!
I love the color! It’s not something that really is for Holiday only. But, for a HE polish, I expect perfection at this price.
It is true that it doesn’t scream holiday–which is nice!
It’s pretty. I’m surprised they didn’t do a silver, silver pink, or icy blue to go with the winter/snowflake theme
They went with some atypical colors outside of the holiday Meteorites/palette!
Aww, man. Guerlain is my absolute favorite formula and lasts the best on my highly chip-prone nails. I’m always waiting for them to put out new colors. I but I would barely ever wear this! They need more wearable colors that are not versions-of-red-or-beige.
Hopefully springtime will get you something in your zone π
When you test for wear time, are you using a base coat/top coat? If so, I’d love to know what brands. I can barely get 4 days of wear out of a polish even with base/top coats. If you got 9 with just tip wear from the polish alone, I’m about to go buy every shade Guerlain makes.
No, I don’t use a base or top coat when I am testing for wear. Keep in mind, I get seven days easily across nearly all brands/shades – no base or top coat, though! I packed, moved, and unpacked and had minor tip wear with base/top coat after 14 days. This is all to say that I get great wear out of most formulas, with some slightly better than others (Guerlain is longer than the average formula), but I tend to get quite long wear compared to many readers!
We all know that I’m a sucker for anything purple, so of course I love this shade! Plus, 9 days wear time is seriously impressive.?
However, I will most likely get one of the Zoya dupes for it: Suri. They’re less expensive and I haven’t really heard anything bad regarding them.
Suri is a gorgeous shade!!
9 days? That’s pretty good! I love the color in the bottle more than on the nail π
Aww!
Nine days, that is INSANE (for me).
Haha!
Love purple nail polish. Will I buy it? Not sure, it’s not cheap and my nails are really weird, only some polishes works for me. And I try the ones I love with various base and top coats. Formula X have been really good, but not with all of my polishes. So I don’t think I feel like investing in any really expensive nailpolishes. I want to, but I try to be sensible π
Gotta save somewhere π

I think that’s true for a lot of folks, so you’re not alone! π
