Guerlain Metal Butterfly Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches
Metal Butterfly (555)
Guerlain Metal Butterfly (555) Ombres G Quad Eyeshadow Palette ($85.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a newer eyeshadow quad that included two more satin/pearl finish shades and two more metallic shades in a good mix of depth/undertone. Three of the four shades were really quite good, but the one that was less-stellar was still very good!

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have "intense pigments for long-lasting color" across four finishes: "intense satin," "deep matte," luminous metallic," and "radiant pearl." The majority of the shades were quite pigmented applied dry, but it seemed, by texture and look of the pan, to be a wet/dry formula to me, so I tried them damp as well. I didn't feel like using them dampened was necessary except for a few of the "radiant pearl" finish shades, which had more shimmer/sparkle.
The "deep matte" finish tended to have a firmer and more cream-like feel, so using a denser brush to pick up to apply and diffuse color was best, while the other finishes were more moderately-dense--firm but not stiff--and blended out well as they "melted" on my skin. The eyeshadows lasted around eight hours on me before showing signs of fading with a few getting closer to nine hours of wear.

This is a really pretty color story. I love the name, too.
This is a rare holiday/wintertime GEM. The pink I would just use to blend out that rich espresso brown, I think. But, those other 3 shades would make for one seriously banger eye look!
Nice color story and the pigmentation on the swatches looks good. Glad it got an A rating. I haven’t been impressed with the mainstream holiday eye shadows this year. I like Pat McGrafts mega palette and Oden’s Eye Christmas palettes best so far. But do I really need another eye palette. heck no.
I have this quad and love it SO MUCH- it’s an artists dream-I use it not only on my eyes but my cheeks as well- for an overall glowy stunning monochromatic look…the textures of these shadows on skin is so flattering… I’m 63 and it’s one of the few powder formulas I can wear all over my face and it still looks so flattering. Magical formula! And these colors are so beautiful!
I’m having a bit of trouble working out the colour story in this quad, however I’m pleased that for a change, Guerlain has got this one right.
This is really a pretty little quad. I absolutey love this type of slightly aged gold. The sheen of the pink shade is lovely. The copper shade, while beautiful makes this a no for me, I hardly ever use such orange shades, did I say hardly ever, I mean I never use orange shades, unfortunately they make me look ill instead of healthy and put together.
Lovely except for the pink for me. Like Nancy said, I’d have to use it to blend with.
