Guerlain Les Precieux Eyeshadow Quad Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain Les Precieux Eyeshadow Quad ($65.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette for spring that features four shades ranging from olive green, peach, light yellow, and brown. A few of Guerlain’s quads I like, but a lot of them are less impressive. There’s definitely something different about the formula in the more recent iterations that is drier and more powdery, which has, in turn, made them sheerer, harder to apply, and shorter-wearing.

Les Precieux #1 is a medium-dark, olive green with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff with a fairly soft texture–it felt a little dry to me–that blended easily, so it tended to look sheerer when actually applied (without a base to help it). It wore well for seven hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Les Precieux #2 is a light, frosty pink-peach with warm undertones. It had semi-sheer color coverage with a drier texture, though it didn’t feel stiff, but it just didn’t adhere well to the skin. It lasted for six hours before fading. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Les Precieux #3 is a buttery light yellow gold with a frosted finish with white sparkle. The texture was somewhat dry with a powderiness to it. It had semi-opaque color payoff, but it didn’t stick to bare skin well. It lasted for six and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Les Precieux #4 is a medium-dark, golden brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation that applied smoothly and evenly with a really rich, buttery texture. It wore well for eight hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Very nice colours but for me, all are very easily duped by shadows I already have (some of much better quality) so this is not a painful “skip” for me. And this is just the sort of thing I meant the other day in that question about higher priced products and better quality….a C+ and D+ are NOT “quality” at all.

I bought their Aciers palette (the grays) a while back, and had to return it because the colors faded (even with primer) and 2 of the grays looked exactly the same on my lids. So I wasn’t impressed with their old formula, and the new formula sounds even worse – drier, more powdery, sheerer. And I think the price went up too. They must be taking a page from Hourglass. Such a shame because the packaging is so elegant and love that olive shade.

I used to be a teal and turquoise girl but now Ive grown to really love a neutral palette. But the thing is, if you own a really great one (or two) — like UD, BB, or TF —that is all you really need, in my opinion.

I was hoping for a better rating for Guerlain – oh dear! The only colour that I really love in this palette was the olive green. By checking out your splendiferous dupe list, I found that I already have Stash – vice 2 and Golden Emerald. The two pale colours are way too similar to be used in a quad – one is sufficient and the brown is boring. Bring back the days of Coup de Foudre….

Hi Christine, I would like to try a Guerlain eyeshadow palette, which one would you recommend? Also, between your favorite, Chanel, Dior and Guerlain palette which one would you recommend overall?
Thanks so much!

None of Guerlain’s permanent ones. Guerlain’s eyeshadow formula isn’t worth the money with the exception of a few of the LE quads that they’ve released. Dior’s palettes are also typically a waste of time, money, and effort. Some of Chanel’s more recent quads are nice, but some of them aren’t – Tisse Rivoli is nice but dupable.

II I love the lower lashline combo here!! >_< I really need to do more on the lower lash line…I avoid it for some reason, and I don't know why… (well, I avoid the centre of it). 😀

I like the colour combination for this palette in theory, but the two pale shades just don't really pop above the radar. I think it would have been nice as a duo with just the brown and the green!

The khaki is gorgeous, but the other 3 are really similar to the Wet’n’Wild trio Walking on Eggshells, which is about $3, and might have better pigment. I wonder if using UD’s Mildew eyeliner with my Wet’n’Wild will give me a similar eye look to yours.

Hi Christine! First I have to say, I love your website and check it religiously (multiple times a week) and definitely before I purchase any makeup. Thank you for doing such an incredible job!
That said, could you PLEASE address the problem with the bottom banner. That thing makes viewing Temptalia on mobile (especially iPad) absolute hell. It forces the page to resize constantly as it loads, five to ten re-sizes on average EVERY TIME. Because it’s resizing so fast and frequently you have a hell of a time even poking the right spot to get the damn thing to go away. The page view doesn’t stabilize until you can kill the banner. If it just sat peacefully as a bottom banner, no big deal, but this is miserable and has been this way for months. I’m sorry to write you a novel here. It’s just incredibly annoying and frustrating.
Thanks so much for reading, and for all the work you do and time you invest doing this – it’s enormously appreciated!!

Hi Caesara,

Could you tell me what it is advertising? It sounds like it’s not working properly, but I don’t use an iPad personally so it’s most helpful if you can tell me what the advertisement is for so I can report it for misbehaving. What you see, I might not see and vice versa as most ads are based on behavior/context!

Although the Colts looked pretty on you, they lack the oomph o similar palette. Very expensive foreplay looking shadows. The colors were pretty but didn’t deliver.

This is a beautiful quad! I’m normally a dupe buyer, just hate to spend that much, but price be damned on this one!!! I love the fact there’s a green tin I, and what a green tint! I have hazel/green eyes and think I can make this work. I just had eyelid surgery, so what better way to introduce my Lids!!!!

FUCHESS Avatar

Well now, this is why I read Christine et XL, to get your comments and replies. Think I’ll pass on this after all, and just look thru my other colors. Darn!!!!

Thanks Christine! I’m recovering quite well. No black and blue eyes, but some swelling. It will be 3 more wks till I can wear eye makeup and I’ll be ready!! I have some NYX, COASTAL SCENTS, & SHANNA pallets, plus others with all kinds of nice colors, so I’m ready, but, after listening to you, I bought Coulorpops Shaaana quad, that looks possibly, this green but a pretty green no less. I know its a good product based on your accolades. So, keep up the great job!! We’re listening and hanging on every word!!!
