Guerlain Les Aquas Eyeshadow Palette

Guerlain Les Aquas Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) is an upcoming new and permanent quad that features an “iridescent blue, matte navy, velvety turquoise, and glacier metallic blue.” This is one of the better eyeshadow quads I’ve tested from Guerlain since they reformulated and relaunched their eyeshadow range, so it was a welcome surprise. The pigmentation is good across the board, and it applies easily. I did find that without a primer, there was some fading after eight hours, but over a primer, it was fine.

The left most shade is a semi-matte, dark teal-blue with a grayish overcast and sparse teal shimmer. The base color is more matte, but there is definitely some sparkle to the shade. It has good color payoff, though the texture feels a little dry. Illamasqua Android seemed similar, though it is much more metallic and frosted. It has a similar base color to MAC Blue Spruce but doesn’t have the copper sparkle.

In the center, the top shade is a aqua teal with an iridescent gold shimmer-sheen. It does flash more golden depending on the angle. The color payoff of this shade was really nice, and the texture was silky soft and applied smoothly. Milani Caribbean Sea is similar but has less golden shimmer. Make Up For Ever #83 is much more intense. theBalm Open to Offers Olwen is darker. Inglot #415 is more vibrant.

Below that shade is a medium-dark bold blue with a soft, metallic shimmer-sheen. The pigmentation is excellent, and the texture feels soft to the touch and smooths out easily. I find Guerlain’s more frosted shades to have the best color payoff and feel compared to some of their mattes, satins, etc. MAC Pure Creation is a touch lighter. MAC Deep Truth is a bit darker. MAC Freshwater is comparable. Inglot #426 is also similar.

The right most shade is a bright, metallic silver. Of all the shades in the palette, it had the weakest color payoff–there was some underlying sheerness but it felt smooth to the touch. IT is similar to MAC Misty and Bobbi Brown Iced Blue.

The palette initially bears resemblance to Les Ombres de Nuit, but this is a brighter, warmer palette. None of the shades actually overlap in terms of color, but here, we have a vibrant aqua teal instead of a muted grayish teal; vibrant medium-dark blue instead of a navy blue; the other two shades are not similar.

Thanks so much for the review Christine! The swatches look great, and I can really see the differences between this and Ombres de Nuit. Thanks for comparing them. I’m so psyched for the grey and blue in this palette; they just look fab!

I love this palette but I’m always afraid to wear blue since a MAC MA told me I shouldn’t because I have blue eyes. But these are really nice!

I LOVE those bright blue colors but the rest aren’t for me. They seem very similar to the holiday blues they released, which I also passed on.

These colors are gorgeous, especially the dark grey-blue! Too bad I already have things that are very close to the other three colors and don’t wear blue very often, otherwise I would be seriously tempted!

I couldnt’ say about the quality, but shade-wise this is very close to MAC quad’s Tone:grey. The warm white and grey are almost the same and the blue looks the same but it’s a little lighter. Lovely quad though, and the price is good!

i love everything Guerlain esp the Lingerie de Peau foundation and Mitsouko EDT. too bad Guerlain counter here will have this a few months after January at a crazy price. fortunately it’s not a LE so i can get it in summer while traveling 🙂

Wow, amazing blues! I love wearing blues, I tend to wear a lot of teal, truquoise tones especially but also some acquas and navy. I always need at least one blue quad but I already have Chanel Lagons, the colors in that are fab though the teal is missing and really want that, so might be worth considering this. My only question is how you feel about the coverage of these, I find Chanel eyeshadows way too sheer for my taste and heard that Dior is the best and I believe they also have a gorgeous blue quad I have been looking at. I usually use Guerlain products, some Lauder, not so much Dior, love Guerlain lipsticks, foundation, bronzer and so on so I would opt for this rather than the Dior, however, everywhere I read that Dior makes the best eyeshadows.

Ursula,

I just bought Les Aquas today. I never wear blue. I’ve only worn teal eyeliner twice in my life. Yet, I LOVE this palette. It was my first, but not last Guerlain palette. The colors are much more pigmented than the Dior 2012 Spring eye shadow quints. I am a NC 25 in MAC, so a lot of colors don’t show up well on my medium/dark skin. These show up true to color without having to build up several layers. If you google this on YouTube, there’s a video tutorial showing how it looks applied. Very pretty!

I’m not a blue eyeshadow person, I live in Texas surrounded by old ladies stuck in the 80s with blue eyeshadow up to their eyebrows practically. Needless to say that really puts me off, but I love the colors and the payoff seems really great. The color choices appear as if they compliment each other wonderfully, thus making it easy to blend a tame eye look to a lovely evening look.
