Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette
Guerlain Coup de Foudre Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) is described as “exquisite shades of green, silvery patina, bronze-khaki, [and] vibrant coral.” It is a limited edition palette for spring.
Coup de Foudre #1 is a dirty olive green with a frosted, metallic finish. It had fantastic color payoff and applied really smoothly and evenly. Sephora Snakeskin Dress is darker, more golden. theBalm Lead Zeppelin is darker, smokier. Tarina Tarantino Dandy Lion is more golden, less metallic. bareMinerals Spectacular is browner. Inglot #419 is darker, less green.
Coup de Foudre #2 is a warm-toned, coral-orange with a satin finish. The pigmentation was true-to-pan, and it was finely-milled and velvety to the touch. bareMinerals Smash Hit is matte. Guerlain Terra Azzurra #3 is redder and more frosted. Inglot #361 is a touch redder.
Coup de Foudre #3 is a soft, pastel green with subtle yellow undertones and a frosted finish. It’s not quite mint green, because it’s not cool-toned enough, but it’s not too yellow. It had great color payoff, and it applied beautifully. Cinderella Cinderelly is more satin in finish and less yellow-toned. Tarina Tarantino Wonderful #4 is lighter. Make Up For Ever #34 is warmer, less frosted.
Coup de Foudre #4 is a dark gray with silver and teal shimmer. This color had only so-so pigmentation; it seemed to apply with better payoff when I used it on the eye, but it wasn’t as pigmented as the other shades. Urban Decay Asphalt is darker. Bobbi Brown Gunmetal is cooler-toned, darker. Urban Decay Gunmetal is cooler-toned, bluer.
Coup de Foudre is a nice alternative to softer spring shades that abound during the season. In fact, I felt a very autumnal vibe from the color combination of this palette. At a glance, the colors look pretty together but I was uncertain if they would pair as well on the lid as they did in individual pans. They really do work together, though, and there are a few different combinations that can be created if you only want to use two or three of the four shades.
All four eyeshadows had soft, buttery textures that felt smooth, silky, and finely-milled. The gray shade wasn’t as pigmented as the rest; not totally sheer but noticeably under-pigmented compared to the other shades and did have some translucency. A fluffier crease brush seemed to do the trick to get better color payoff out of the color when I used it that way in the look below. The soft, smooth consistencies made all four shades incredibly easy to blend and apply. They also looked beautiful on the lid–no emphasis of lines or skin texture–and wore well for a full ten hours, no creasing or fading, without a primer.

I’ve been waiting for your review on this, Christine. I’m so glad it got an A! I’ll definitely purchase this along with Ballade when the collection hits my local counter next month. 🙂
Forgot to include this in my post. 🙂
Is the first shade similar to MAC’s Sumptuous Olive, Christine?
Sumptuous Olive is a bit browner – not quite as green!
This is such an amazing palette, definitely my favourite one of all collections! It’s really fun to see how everyone uses that coral shade differently and I love how you used it like that in this look. It’s a really fun palette!
Color me impressed Guerlain, you are quickly becoming my most favorite brand!
I’ve been eagerly awaiting your review, but that didn’t stop me from getting the palette a month ago. I love it! I used the gray today as a liner, but I love the combinations you can do with the colors. So glad it’s Temptalia-approved too!
STUNNINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG is the word Christine 🙂
loveeeeddddd the look and only you can create such wearable looks 😀
in india it is only launched in Mumbai , am waiting for this to launch in Bangalore and then am gonna def. buy it 😀 have asked SA to keep one aside if am lucky 😀 😀
am glad the prices for GUERLAIN in India is more or less the same 😀
Thank you, Rashmi!
That’s great news that Guerlain is about the same in price internationally!
That is the case also in Mexico 🙂 – Guerlain products here are sold at about their actual price in USD, which is not the case for other high end brands. It´s good to know that Guerlain, though quite expensive, is more fairly priced than other brands that IMO, do not offer such level of quality and luxury.
I think it’s just us Australians who pay ridiculous prices for everything. This palette is $98 here.
Beautiful! Works wonderfully with your eye color. Gorgeous swatches. Temptalia, you’re tempting me! Again and again and again… 🙂
Oh wow! I love these colors together!! I can’t wait to try re-creating your eye look with other shades from my stash 🙂
Damn.
Why does it have to look so good? My poor wallet.
I was a little on the fence with this because I didn’t know how I would wear it. Then, I saw your look of the week a couple of weeks ago and knew I had to have it. I love it! The eye shadows are gorgeous. I’m glad I was still able to get it. Thanks for a breakdown of the look. I find these really helpful!
Hi Ho Hi Ho It’s off to Nordstrom I go! Guerlain is really making some amazing things these days! I love the look and will be copying it come tomorrow!
I don’t like the coral, but the other shades are really pretty. It’d be a more cohesive palette if it included a highlight shade, or even a brown, instead of the coral; while what it’s missing isn’t a deal-breaker, the included coral shade is, as I would never touch it. I don’t typically care if I’d use all the shades together, I have to be able to use all shades to some degree.
Pretty look on you. I’m afraid that light coral and the lightest green will make me look as if I’m dead and gently decomposing. I’m gonna leave it.
Besides, I seem to find that most of my Guerlain makeup just sits there (too much trouble usually), and the only products I use regularly are the meteorites pressed powder and (in the summer) the terracotta 4 seasons bronzer.
I’m passing!
Waah, the color combination is not common but it looks veeeeery nice. I am in love with Guerlain collections recently, and I really like your step-by-step tutorial. Thank you x 😀
I am so in love with this palette!
I have SO been waiting for your review on this. I’m thinking I just might cave and buy this palette!
Wow the #2 Eyeshadow is identical to Dynamo Mac electric cool.
I just want the olive green! it’s so beautiful
I love this but it’s way too expensive for me.
Definitely one of the best spring palettes out there! It’s so fresh and pretty and unique!! 😀
Lovely in the box, but once on the eye, that coral is gonna make me look like I have pinkeye.
How close is the coral to Inglot 407? — is it similar, minus Inglot’s duochrome? I’ve been toying around pairing 407 with 419, which conveniently enough, are the only Inglot eyeshadows I own!
This is definitely a redder coral – #407 is more orange + golden sheen when I compare the two!
The Guerlain mix of colours is just beautiful! My husband generally doesn’t like me mixing colours – he says it doesn’t suit ladies of ‘my age’ ! lol But this is gorgeous – there’s no way he’s having his way this time! 🙂
I want it just for those greens, just lovely. It would be perfect for hazel eyes with a touch of green. 🙂 I could also see this wearing very beautifully on darker skin tones – think how vivid that coral and olive would be!
I’m impressed – and I haven’t been in a loooong time with any brand. They are unique colours (to me) and look amazing on you! If I had the funds I’d pick it up asap!
beautiful palette, dat orange packs d punch
Gosh that’s such a pretty palette!! This really might be my first Guerlain purchase!!
zomg, I wish this weren’t so pretty. I absolutely love these shades. It looks stunning on you as well. I just got MAC Free To Be eye shadow so I must be on somewhat of a corals kick.
THIS PALETTE IS GIVING ME LIFE..
I’m looking at buying an eyeshadow palette. Which do you prefer for eyeshadows: Guerlain or Dior?
Guerlain usually!
Okay, so I was at The Bay today and swatched the 2 shades that I love (the olive on the left and the grey-green on the right) and compared them to shadows I have when I got home. Turns out that the olive green is exactly the same as Stila’s La Douce and the grey is, well, close enough to other greys I have that it wasn’t a “must have”. Since I don’t wear orange toned shadows, after all is said and done, I really can’t justify this purchase (which is okay, since it leaves me more dosh to spend on other makeup!). It is a beauty of a palette, though.
Love your reviews!! That palette looks gorgeous, although that coral pink is scary for my lids. I’m a HUGE Guerlain fan, and you’re seriously tempting me to go out and spend more $$! ;P
Thank you, Linda!
Wondering how these would work on greens eyes
I just wanted to say that I finally bit the bullet and experimented with this eye look (I was CONVINCED the coral would make me look sick/washed out), and I absolutely adored it! I toned down the coral a bit, but the pop of color in the inner corners was fun AND flattering. Thanks for making me step out of my comfort zone (several months late, but better late than never!)
Yayyyyy! Thank you so much, Ellen! 🙂
