Gucci Antique Gold Magnetic Color Shadow Mono
Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Mono ($37.00 for 0.07 oz.) is the brand’s single eyeshadow compacts. They’re larger than the average eyeshadow (say like MAC or Urban Decay, which are 0.05 oz.), but they’re not massive eyeshadows either. Of all the products I’ve tried from Gucci’s beauty range, I liked the single eyeshadows the best, which is unfortunate, because it’s one of the most expensive products in the range. The consistency of the three I bought was soft, buttery, lightly creamy, and blendable.
Antique Gold is a light-medium, pale yellow gold with a metallic finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, buttery consistency that applied nicely on the skin. It’s still a warmer-toned gold, but the muted quality and subtler warmer tones may make it a more wearable gold for those who avoid more orange-toned ones. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly. Guerlain Petrouchka #1 (LE) is lighter. MAC Canter (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. Anastasia Legend (LE) is less shimmery, lighter. Make Up For Ever ME512 Golden Beige (P, $21.00) is warmer. MAC My Fantasy (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. theBalm #41 (P, $6.50) is warmer. MAC In the Meadow #2 (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Lily White (2014) (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Greenluxe #2 (P) is more sparkly. Disney by Sephora Charming (LE) is lighter. Disney by Sephora Sand in the Glass (LE) is lighter. MAC Treasure Hunt (LE, $18.00) is a cream product. MAC Impeccably Rich (LE, $16.50) is a cream product, brighter. L’Oreal Gold Imperial (LE, $7.99) is warmer. Lancome Eternal Gold (P, $24.50) is warmer. Giorgio Armani #18 (LE, $33.00) is lighter. bareMinerals Standing O (P) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Sasso is a cool-toned, light-medium taupe that leans gray with a frosted, metallic finish. It’s very shimmery, and it’s a shade that works well as a wash when sheered out as well. It had nice color payoff, and the texture felt soft, blendable, and was easy to work with on the lid. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours. This one was harder to dupe compared to Antique Gold–it’s the brighter, lighter quality of the color as there are more dark, cool-toned taupes than there are lighter ones. Giorgio Armani Organica (Left) (LE) is much darker. MAC Stormy Sunset (LE, $15.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Chanel Tisse Gabrielle #3 (P) is darker, warmer. MAC Ebony Blend #3 (LE) is darker, less shimmery. Dior Golden Snow #4 (LE) is cooler-toned. MAC Dangerous Cuvee (P, $18.50) is cooler-toned. Giorgio Armani Shimmer Greige (LE) is darker, less shimmery. Make Up For Ever #2 (P, $23.00) is darker, cream product. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Iconic Ottanio is a vibrant blue-teal that looks bluer when applied at full intensity and more teal when blended out (the green comes through in the undertone). It had a frosted finish with intense pigmentation. Luckily, the consistency was soft and blendable, so you could diffuse the edges or wear it as a sheerer shade if desired. The color started to fade after nine hours of wear. Make Up For Ever ME230 Peacock Blue (P, $21.00) is darker. Urban Decay Fringe (P) is lighter, warmer. Tarina Tarantino Ozma (LE) is lighter. Urban Decay Madness (LE, $18.00) is bluer. Disney by Sephora Caspian Sea (LE) is lighter, brighter, warmer. Tom Ford Beauty Emerald Lust #3 (LE) is warmer, lighter. theBalm Open to Offers Olwen (LE, $16.00)is lighter. Urban Decay Junkie (LE, $18.00) is darker, less shimmery. Urban Decay Deep End (P, $18.00) is less shimmery. MAC Pre-Packaged (LE, $15.00) is darker, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pretty! At that price point though, I’d want something a little more unique, maybe. It is nice to see good packaging and size – not things you always get with luxury brands!
Unique or something one would use often? That’s usually my philosophy with really pricey products.
I feel like there are so many fantastic eyeshadow formulas at mid-high end range that if I’m going to go there for eyeshadow (or nail polish) I want it to be something unique that I just can’t otherwise find!
The color has to be unique. I am a sucker for packaging. I am not getting anything from Gucci until I personally swatch it……probably going to a Gucci store that sells it….since not all of them do….
The texture sounds lovely! GG Gucci 🙂 Iconic Ottanio is a beautiful shade.
It’s pretty good!
$37 for an eyeshadow single?? Gucci must be off their rocker… I had to seriously convince myself to pay the $29 for the NARS Dual Intensity eyeshadows, no way am I spending close to $40 after tax on an eyeshadow if I can get a decent palette for that price… Although, Sasso does look pretty…
The colors seem to be really pretty in the single range 🙁 But just $37 on a single eyeshadow is so close to $40.
Do I need Sasso? LOL
LOL! I am sure you have dupes 😉
I love antique gold from this collection
It is pretty!
These are really pretty — too bad they’re so expensive! If Sasso was not so expensive, I would purchase it, it’s my kind of color. I’m glad there are reasonable dupes for Ottanio, another color I love.
They are! It just makes more sense to try the duos/quads so one can at least get 2 or 4 colors, I think.
They look nice but not for me @ $37.00; I have enough makeup lol
LOL! Totally understand, CKG!
😀
Nowadays ifcIm going to spend that much on a single eyeshadow, it had better be unique and speak to me! If it came with free jewels or a puppy.. That’s different. These are ridiculous, in my opinion, seeming no better than MUFE Artist Eyeshadows.. Which do you prefer, Christine? (Let’s say they are equally priced) …?
That would be an interesting proposition — “here’s an eyeshadow, and by the way, a puppy!”
I prefer MUFE on the whole.
Gorgeous! But the price is too steep.
So pricey 🙁
Antique Gold and Iconic Ottanio are beautiful, but the price is really hard to digest. If they were more unique, I would make an effort to purchase them.
I agree — I’d love to try more, but $37 stops me and I’m a lot less price sensitive.
I stumbled upon these in person last weekend at Saks Fifth Ave. in NYC. I swatched like mad, but didn’t see anything that tickled my fancy. They are very cute in person but sadly, I didn’t see any color that was $40 cute. I’m still stuck on the MUFE e/s I’m hoarding @ $14.50 each. At least now I can swatch and ogle them for free and in person.
Nice! How fun to see the line in person. Did you try anything else while you were there?
I really LOVE all of these shadows – they are so, so beautiful and so practical. You can wear them with anything. I especially love the teal. Your eye look is amazing Christine. I know that the price is expensive, but with great shadows like these, you will use them forever.
Aw, thank you so much, Genevieve! 🙂
As soon as I saw sasso, I knew I had to have it. Though I think with the price point, I may just get one of the dupes instead!
Sasso is very pretty!
That blue!!! But I won’t buy them on principal… there are shadows out there for much less, that are just as good. I would be paying for the brand name, and no thanks.
There are definitely eyeshadows as good as well as better out there for half the price!
I like all three but I think Sasso is the only one I’d buy. I need some cool taupes in my life that stay neutral to cool on me. Because I have cool toned skin, taupes tend to turn bronze on me!
Do you find that purple-taupes turn bronze on you too?
Ooh, Ottanio is *pretty*! 😀 I’m glad they came through on the pigmentation on that one! Sasso is a really pretty grey too.
At least they performed fairly well (as they should!). That’s the upside, lol!
All of them look beautiful. Especially Iconic Ottanio! Why must they be so expensive though? I get it’s a luxury brand but ouch lol
