Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I left this as a comment in the survey, but it’s also a question – it’s occasionally frustrating that comments take a while to get approved – like when I’m replying to something someone said and I want to have a conversation. I am totally understanding that the lag time is because you approve them manually to filter out spam – and I really appreciate a spam-free comments section! – but it seems like there are other ways to have a spam free comments section, that would also reduce your workload.

For example, you could create an optional registration system, and registered users could skip the moderation – this would be feasible because they could be banned if they left problematic comments. Non-registered users comments would still be moderated.

I leave a couple comments a day, I think, and I don’t think I’ve ever left a comment that wasn’t published – moderating comments like the ones I leave just creates more work for you!

So, the question: Is changing the comment system something that you are considering?

(If it’s not, I’ll continue to comment and read, of course).

Thanks!

We don’t want registered users, because of some future things we have in the works that having registered users could REALLY complicate 🙂 Let’s put it this way: having registered users is a huge burden with some extreme consequences that we can’t handle – not from a backend standpoint or on the frontend. We have many things we’re working on in the future, but right now, we absolutely could not accommodate your request for registration – really sorry!

Any comment that requires a response from me is the only kind that takes longer than maybe 2-3 hours on average – there are times when I’m not physically at the computer for 8-10 hours, in which case, I really can’t do anything, but I try to do whatever I can remotely. I wake up 3-5 times a night easily and will moderate comments at 2am, 4am – whatever times I happen to wake up. If it doesn’t require a response from me, it gets approved very quickly – e.g. a response to Temptalia Asks You. Comments are moderated for a variety of reasons, but it’s also the easiest way for me to know what comments are new and need responses. Especially when there may be 2,000 comments for a contest that make it difficult to sift through the rest. When there are comments that require responses, they are not approved until I have a chance to respond to them. This way I can see a new comment on a post from a year ago as well as comments on a post from that day. It’s very easy for me to track, “Hey, you haven’t responded to this yet.” The latter reason is the primary purpose behind moderation, actually – the whole point being that I can actually answer any questions.

FYI – We do have several spam filters already in place that significantly reduce spam (we’re hit with about 10,000 spam comments a day – and that’s the amount already filtered out). Moderation does have the benefit of ensuring that links to virus-embedded websites, pornographic images/links, and the like are filtered out, but those are not the primary purposes at this time!

I can certainly appreciate your frustration, and I’m really sorry – I will just try to approve faster and focus on that! Sorry again!

Thanks!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed response. Everything you write makes a lot of sense – I absolutely understand that registration doesn’t work for you, it was meant as a possible suggestion/idea, not as as a “you must do this!” type suggestion.

And wow – that is a lot of spam – so glad that you’re able to filter it out!

Again, thanks so much for the detailed response, one of the things I really appreciate about Temptalia is that you’re always open about what’s going on!

I had never been to the Temptalia recommendations page before! How often do the recommendations get updated (like new brands added and stuff, was surprised to not see certain brands recommended that you seem to like lately)?

I would appreciate it if there were a few RSS feeds instead of just one — e.g. a separate reviews feed, new collections announcement feed, daily polls feed and so on. No idea how difficult that would be from a technical point of view though 🙂

We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
