Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: About Face Lipglosses, NARS lipsticks, and Pat McGrath’s new palette all arrived this week.
Weekend plans: The pups have their 5-week photoshoot on Saturday, and I also am training some new volunteers over the weekend at the rescue. Hubby and I will have dinner with my parents at some point.
Are you a morning or night person? I’ve been a morning person my entire life! I was totally the kid who would be up bright and early and never wanted to stay in bed, lol. I feel like I get so much more work done if I get a start on it early on.
Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 Here’s a breakdown of what we have:
- Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
- Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
- Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
- Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)
This week's doggo photo/video...

Recent purchases: a new bottle of Marcelle CC Cream, Shiseido Microliner Ink in Black (I think I’ve found a replacement for the Marc Jacobs Skinny Liner; I’d have liked to have got Navy as well, but they were sold out), Burberry Weekend (it was $20 at SDM – I mean, you can’t beat THAT price!) Rediscoveries: Clinique Neutral Territory e/s duo (the light side) – I’ve been using the light side as a “one and done/brightening” shadow most of this past week.
Weekend plans: Not too much – a friend is coming to stay over tonight (we’re taking her sewing machine in for service and then going out for dinner – her treat, which is nice). I’m hoping to get to the gym tomorrow, after this friend leaves and again on Sunday and I want to make some sandwiches and other baby friendly treats on Sunday to take Monday when I go to Story Hour with grand-daughter and daughter and then back to their house or to a park for a picnic. So, really, just the gym and some cooking (in other words, nothing much new).
Morning person or night person??? I’m a night person who lives a day-time life. But the BEST job I ever had in terms of my natural tendencies was as the ticket seller at an independent movie theatre – I’d start work at 6 pm and finish around 11 or midnight and it suited me so well!
I forgot – I also purchased a Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Shade 11/Vanilla. I want something to take to Japan with me, something I don’t care about losing along the way. This colour is a bit too light and ghost-y looking but the next shade they had in stock (not sure if it was 15 or 20) seemed too dark and orange toned. It’s a pretty nice concealer, though, for just a few dollars!
Hi Mariella,
I’m not sure if it’s available on the Canadian site but I just bought Shiseido’s Microliner Ink in Navy on Amazon yesterday. If not, Cover Girl’s Perfect Point liner in Midnight Blue is another good micro liner option. I have hooded eyes with very little lid space so while I typically use gel liner and an ultra fine brush to get the thinnest line possible, I’ll sometimes use a micro pencil to tightline instead.
Cara, they were just sold out of the Navy one (there was a tester but no product) so when they restock, I’ll get one. I use these to tightline my upper waterline; for my actual lid line, I prefer something wider that gives a more “smudgey” line – the UD 24/7 pencils or Sephora’s pencil liners do the trick for me for that purpose.
How lovely that you get to go to Story Hour with your grand daughter Mariella, she must be such a joy to be with at her age. I hope the weather is cool enough for a picnic, seeing as you’ve experienced such awful heatwaves.
Repurchases/rediscoveries: Still not playing with stuff as much as I want to want to be 😭
Weekend plans: Today I only have a couple of appointments (meet & greet with a new dog to potentially walk 3 times a week, and visiting two cats whose mom is out of town) before I have to prepare for puppy-sitting most of tomorrow and Sunday. A golden retriever mix (?) just got spayed, so I have to monitor her to make sure she doesn’t get too crazy while her parents are out!
Morning or night person? Always, since childhood, been a night person. I like sunrises and early mornings…when I’ve stayed up, not gotten up. Frankly, I functioned pretty well when I worked night shift jobs, and I almost NEVER go to sleep and wake up the way you “should” when I have to do it during “normal people” hours, which is probably not great for my health long-term. But there isn’t very much demand for nocturnal pet care 😅
Recent Purchases: I picked up a couple of items from Dermelect to try. The brand was all abuzz on Tic-Toc which I don’t follow and YouTube which I do. I usually think this sort of comprehensive blitz doesn’t speak well for the products but in this case, after reading ingredients there were three I wanted to try. I picked up the eye cream, Upper Lip Smoother and Self Esteem. If I like them I will likely try a few others.
At Target I got the Pixie Peach Corrector and their Rose Tonic. I liked the original tonic as it related to how my skin felt and how it worked but I hated the smell. I can’t stand the smell of white flower. So I thought I would try the rose one. I also got the Vit A mask but I haven’t tried it yet. I got the Avatara Re-Dew mask as my skin has been feeling particularly dry.
At Ulta I purchased a new brush for concealer. Can’t remember which one but it is from It Cosmetics. Crazy how bad my memory has become.
Weekend Plans: This is the weekend of my Aunt’s funeral so a lot of family in town. We also have a little town festival this weekend and my sister is selling her crafts there. She paints bottles and is quite talented. Without going into to much depth, my sister and I don’t get along but she doesn’t know that, LOL!! My entire family, immediate and further are registered in one party and she is in another. The basic beliefs of the party she supports are diametrically opposed to my beliefs, my faith and my daughter who is multi-racial. I try to spend as little time as possible with her and likewise, my brother won’t even talk to her. We try not to have it erupt into anything for my mother’s sake. So, I will be going to the festival for a brief time to see her in a setting that things cannot get out of hand.
Day or Night: Definitely night. I cannot get out of bed in the morning unless I have some reason to do so and even then I put it off to the last possible second. I was always a night person and I think that was emphasized by my over 20 years of working graveyard shift as an RN. I was working graveyards during my pregnancy and my daughter is also a night person. Her father was definitely a day person and specifically early morning. Also being an incredibly strong extrovert, that made it difficult for my daughter and I to sleep in peacefully. He was awakened by an alarm that he had set on a rock station. He would turn the TV on as he walked by it and if he wasn’t in the shower, (who turns everything on and then gets into the shower?), he would be talking on the phone. Made us both crazy. Even now, I am usually still awake at 2 AM and get up around 9 AM. Living alone, I have even less reason to get up early!
I am sorry you and your sister do not get along but you have to protect yourself first. Good for you for making that hard choice.
Thank you Sarah. I actually just got home from the festival and saw your comment. I have to say, it wasn’t a pleasant day and it only reinforced my feelings. I had to come home, close the front door and scream or I would have repeatedly banged my head against the wall! The sad things is that she is not a stupid person but she is willingly and willfully uninformed and she says she doesn’t want to talk politics out of one side of her mouth as she is supporting and talking about it out of the other side of her mouth. Some of my cousins blame me because they say that I should maintain a relationship with her because she is my sister. If they had a child who was of mixed ethnicity, I don’t think they would feel any different than I do. Yes, she is my sister and family but so is my daughter and I just cannot do it any longer. Luckily, once I get through this once a year visit, she will return home to another state and I won’t have to have contact until next summer. My brother and I are thinking about being gone next summer, LOL!!
Deborah, I have a very similar situation with my son. And he FINALLY saw the light! Well, more like partially? No more QAnon, no more “but T**** is (now was) doing good things” (mind you, he’s mixed race and his two daughters are multi-racial), but he does still have some really out there ideologies and opinions that he feels are fact. Sometimes, it would seem, our own family can drive us to scream, slam our front door, or be up all night crying and punching our bed. Hugs, my friend. I’m in the trenches with you. 🫂
My sister tried to talk to me over the weekend and frankly, I have a hard time remaining civil with her. I have to recite a mantra in my head that I am doing to for my mother. I spoke with my brother about it last night as he was surprised my sister brought the subject up. I repeatedly told her I didn’t want to talk about it but she would not let it drop so I ended up telling her what I thought, which she of course told my mother and now I am in the dog house with my mother, even though she agrees with me with regards to the issue. I told my brother, and he agrees, that once my mother passes, we are cutting off all contact with her. My sister is an Evangelical Christian and thinks that she is a direct conduit to God’s ear. I have finally come to the realization that she isn’t a Christian at all. You cannot be a Christian and believe what she believes. I finally just had to leave and last night my mother sent me a message asking me to go with her and my sister for a girls day visiting family graves. Doesn’t that sound like fun! I told her know that she should enjoy her time with my sister before my sister leaves to go back to her own home and state. I am glad to hear your son has at least seen the light partially. I doubt my sister ever will. I wouldn’t be so upset if she actually did any research, read or watched anything except her one news channel and her pastor. If you do some research and you still believe that is one thing but to blindly follow along it something different. It is a cult, pure and simple.
I hope the funeral goes well and that you are able to connect with your family members near and far. As for your sister, visiting the festival is a good idea and one that, hopefully, will work out for all of you.
The puppies are such wrinkly tater tots! How are you able to do anything other than just squeeze them all day?!?
Recent purchase: Uoma Beauty powder highlight – beautiful formula but unfortunately, lightest shade, White Pearl, described as icy pink is much too dark, giving a bruise like cast to my skin.
Weekend plans: finalizing a company wide training I’m presenting in a week (fun 🙄)
I’m actually more of a late afternoon/evening person. I’ve always hated getting up early and I can’t hang past midnight/1am; I’ve always had the most energy between 3pm-8pm.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: only purchase is a k-beauty toner mist/hydrasol. Idk if it makes a difference but I much prefer a mist toner or essence, especially in the morning. I did get a sample of Kate Somerville exfolikate moisturizer and I do like it so far but I’m not sure I need chemical exfoliation every day, therefore I’m unlikely to buy the full size.
Weekend plans: work & rearranging the apartment. Maybe applying for some different jobs as well.
Are you a morning or night person? Mostly a night person but as I get older I do find it easier to get up earlier sometimes.
Sambuca looks so precious and yummy as his name! They sure are growing up fast!
Purchases/rediscoveries: Rediscovered my now old tube of MAC Smoked Almond lipstick (which now smells like playdough!), and FINALLY wore 2 makeup looks two days in a row! For the one look, it was definitely a little bit of a rediscovery day using your own Quintessence and Midnight Courage from On The Horizon with a light, pinky purple matte from Menagerie Cosmetics Flight Club as my transition. Got lots of compliments from the nurses at the infusion center!
Weekend plans: Zoom meeting tomorrow morning, dye my roots, relax because next weekend is my 3 day Regional Convention!
Night person or morning person? Night! Always have been. I used to have trouble falling asleep even in grammar school and would go downstairs to watch Johnny Carson while my Mom had me sip warmed up up milk and some butter. To this day, dairy will make me sleepy!
Glad to read that you are getting back into your makeup Nancy – I think it’s always a barometer of how a person is feeling at the time. Your eye looks sound lovely.
Thank you, Genevieve! It felt good to get my creative vibe back again after such a long hiatus. Only sad part is that I probably wouldn’t have if not for having two medical appointments downtown. However, it FELT so good when I was putting the looks together that I feel like I can hardly wait for my next opportunity!
The puppies are gorgeous and with 11 of them, there are plenty of siblings to play with. They do look inquisitive, which means they are happy and healthy. What a great way to get them around in the trolley!
Recent Purchases: Just some Dermaveen body lotion
Rediscoveries: Naked 2 – I have been using it a lot this week and it is one versatile palette.
Weekend Plans: Shopping for the upcoming Father’s Day for my husband and son (I always like to get him something). A spot of grocery shopping and a big date with the ironing board and washing machine.
I hope to get out over the next few days and visit the countryside.
Baby Charlotte is doing well, but her sleeping patterns are still erratic Olivia represented her school in the Zone athletics on Friday, the only Gr. 3 person to do so – in the 100metre sprint and relay. She came second in the sprint and her team came third in the relay – so she was really happy.
Everyone else is in good health.
Morning or Night person: Hmmm – when I was working full time, I was definitely a morning person, but nowadays I tend to be more of night person – sitting up reading. I tend to sleep in a bit more and I don’t feel the need (particularly in winter) to get up at 6 am anymore.
You sound like me, Genevieve. Once I start reading I lose all track of time and the next thing you know, I am noticing the sun rise!! Good to hear that Baby Charlotte is doing well. Good luck with the sleep patterns. Aislinn never did develop a sleep pattern. I think it was spending 5 weeks in the NICU with all the alarms, interruptions, lights, etcetera. She would catnap for an hour and then be raring to go again. I remember once my mother came to stay with us and at 11 PM I was still trying to get Aislinn down. My mom asked me to give Aislinn to her and she would get her to sleep. At 2 AM my mom was asleep and Aislinn was still going strong.
I’m so happy for Olivia, Genevieve! Especially since she’s so young compared to probably most of the other participants. 🎉
As for Charlotte, our firstborn only son was the “I wanna be walked around until I decide to sleep…and I may be up and at ’em in an hour, if you’re lucky!
The struggle is REAL!
Recent Purchases: I have an actual baby!haul to report: Dam Dam Nomad’s Cream Purifying & Exfoliating AHA Cleanser which sounds super scary but is a great night cleanser that gets off all the gunk but doesn’t strip my skin barrier.
Clinique Lip Chubby Stick in Boldest Bronze, drying but pretty; MAC eyeshadow Paint Pot in Bare Study which I fear I am allergic to; Holo Taco Blushed Ice (gorgeous) and Coral Chaser (unknown bc I haven’t tried it yet).
Weekend Plans: Reading, Laundry, Church Picnic
I am a morning person. 5 am is my favorite time of day.
Have you had a baby Sarah?
No, why do you ask? I just used to photograph sunrises during the summer (before my accident) and so got in the habit of rising early.
Oh no, allergic to Bare Study! That and Painterly were my favorite bases. I am so lucky in that I don’t have a lot of allergies to contact things. I can’t tolerate most tapes and CBD oil gives me a rash but I am lucky. After the CBD issue I did start spot testing things because I never want to go through that again!
Y’all got me to REMEMBER something that I forgot to put in my “purchases/rediscoveries”! Tried using my MUFE jumbo waterproof pencil instead of eyeshadow primer, and NO watery eyes!!! I think I may have an allergy to whatever they are putting in most eyeshadow primers? Is that even possible, though? Confused, but so happy!
It is definitely possible, Nancy. The tissue of our eyelids is very thin and permeable just like our skin. Plus, migration of the primer can really bother your eyes. I have that issue with sunscreens and once I get it in my eyes they water the rest of the day. On top of that, I also have dry eye and so they water for that reason. I thought I was doing a good job putting eye drops in everyday but my eye doctor told me that only certain eye drops really help. I was always getting the Visine or whatever was cheapest thinking that would do the trick but it didn’t.
The puppies are adorable!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No purchases. I have used the Gwen Stefani palette from UD, it’s really quite good. I wonder where and why UD went so wrong with the eyeshadows. Such a pity.
Haul Labratories lipstick in Burlesque. I also used the Ciate Jessica Rabbit lipstick. I guess I felt sparkly. 🙂
Weekend plans: Nothing out of the ordinary. I have to go shopping for some groceries and go to the pharmacy to get one of Stubbs’ meds.
It’s finally sunny so I should get out in the garden, the grass is getting long, again, I need to fix some flower beds and pick up the fallen apples.
Are you a morning or night person? A night person who worked mostly with day people and during the day. I always try to get appointments as late as possible, I often stay up until sunrise in the summer. I love that time of the day, I take Stubbs out for a walk and we are all alone.
The other morning we saw a bat. We rarely see them, and I’m weird in many ways, I love all animals, even the poor bats. I was thinking this one was the one we found hanging around in the living room earlier that night. I managed to get it out, and thought it had a little flying show to say thanks. I said I’m weird, right!?
I still smile when I think “we had a bat”. I should add that it was a very small one, I don’t think we have any larger ones here.
I hope the weather is being kinder to you and a walk at that time of the morning would be beautiful. It’s quite special to see a different kind of animal these days – although I am not sure I would want a bat in my living room! It must have been quite disorientated to fly into a house.
We have no idea how it got in. We didn’t have any windows wide open and they are only active at night so maybe through the front door when Stubbs got a walk. It’s a mystery. It was fun, and I love to have these few close encounters with wild life.
I like bats, too! I watch a couple of YouTube channels that rescue bats. The hospital I worked at for over 35 years had a fifth floor that was closed off and somehow the bats would get in there. I was the Administrative Supervisor on the night shift and I would get calls from the floors if a bat showed up on their unit. I think they came down the elevator shafts. Bats have very delicate wings and they are easily broken. They also cannot take off if they are on the little feet. They have to be hanging to fly. One night one of our ICU’s called me and told me they had a bat so I went up there and notified engineering who had bat duty at night! They had a net that they would scoop them into and then they would take them outside and let them go. The bat they got that night broke his wing and so they had to destroy him, unbeknown to me. The next thing you know, I was being reported to PETA for “killing” the bat!
I also try to get my appts. as late in the day as I can. For one thing, I live a good 30 miles from town so if I have an early morning appt. I have to get up before the sun. I also hate feeling rushed so later allows me to prepare more leisurely.
A fellow bat-liker!
I think most people don’t like bats at all, they find them anything from scary to disgusting. I think they are so cool and they are a vital part of the ecological system. I love seeing them fly, they don’t make a sound.
Another soundless flyer, the owl are also very cool. The first time I saw one fly, it was night, the owl was light coloured, I though it was a huge decapitated bird. LOL They have flat faces so at first sight, and thought the impression was so weird.
I love all animals, to tell the truth, I also like insects but am terrified of arachnids.
Like you, I pretty much like all animals. As for insects, reptiles and other annoying species, I tolerate them, understand their necessity but would rather not see them if I can help it.
Helene, you’re NOT weird at all! I love bats, too!!! 🦇💜🦇
These videos are beyond precious! What a bunch of cuties! 😍
RECENT PURCHASES/
REDISCOVERIES: None
WEEKEND PLANS: Finishing the last few rows on the shawl I’m making myself, then figuring out my next project. I need to help my son with some paperwork. Otherwise, the usual chores, etc.
We’re in a heat wave that’s supposed to last at least into Thursday, so I’ll be staying indoors as much as possible.
ARE YOU A MORNING OR NIGHT PERSON?
I’ve always been a night person.
It’s very sad to read that your heatwaves are continuuing Rachel – and it makes me nervous about what we are going to have this summer here in Aus. Even though it is August, we are getting some Spring like weather – cue my hayfever tablets. Usually August is pretty cold.
I hope your a/c is functioning well and best wishes for surviving it.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’m on a no buy but have been shopping my collection a lot!
Weekend plans: See some friends Sunday!
Are you a morning or night person? More morning but I don’t get grumpy at night or anything!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Backups of Fenty Pro Filt’r 110 foundation and concealer-I took them to work for touchups Saturday, forgot them on my office shelf at the end of the day, and had a backup at home for the concealer but not the foundation-I ended up having to make an emergency run to Kohl’s Saturday night. I was going to buy backups of both anyway, but this just accelerated the process.
Weekend plans: Made weekly grocery trip Friday night, worked all day Saturday, had a lazy Sunday.
Are you a morning or night person? Absolutely a night owl!
