Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I bought some Half Magic products after the brand launched at Ulta along with Phytosurgence’s new cream bronzers. Looks like I have a cheek-a-palooza swatch-a-thon coming up, so whenever I do that, that’s when I’ll process those things.

Weekend plans: I checked off some to-dos today, including editing a batch of photos and doing a big reset of the puppy playpen (rearranged areas, moved the whole pen over, and added a crate). I drop Mama Bailey off at the rescue tomorrow morning so she can head to her new foster, who will give her all the love and attention she wants while she dries up so she can be spayed (and then go home to her original owners who miss her!). I’ll be keeping her 11 puppies for as long as I can handle all 11. The hope is to then keep five or seven of them, but we shall see how monstrous they become, LOL.

I need to do their 4-week photoshoot over the weekend, and I think both my parents and my MIL/BIL will stop by to say hello to the puppies as well.

What song hypes you up? Chinchilla “Little Girl Gone.”

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 Here’s a breakdown of what we have:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

Recent Purchases: Estée Lauder Double Wear Makeup (backup). Continuing my ongoing perfume obsession, I bought a bottle of Versace Crystal Noir EDT. I also bought a bunch of little Guerlain decants: Vol de Nuit (LOVE!!!! but it fades so quickly, I don’t know if a bottle is worth buying), Shalimar Souffle de Parfum (very nice), Le Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto (love…too bad it’s discontinued), Insolence (nope, not my cup of tea), and Shalimar (which I used to hate, but suddenly I’m liking it a lot).

Rediscoveries: Rouge Dior Velvet Lipstick in Nude Look. (I had put this one aside in favor of Rouge Dior Matte Lipstick in Nude Look. The shades are different between the two finishes. I decided to give the velvet matte another chance, and now I really like it.)

Weekend Plans: Serious relaxation!

What song hypes you up? “Funnel of Love” by Wanda Jackson (I listen to a lot of old music!)

Genevieve Avatar

I love those little bottles of perfume to try out before you commit to buying the larger bottles because you never really know how much you are going to love/hate them on you.
I have put out my EL perfumes that I purchased last year – Belle Paradise (excellent), my old favourites of White Line, Sensuous, Knowing and Cinnabar.
The Rouge Dior lipstick in Nude Look looks like a beautiful, subtle kind of Nudes and both of them do look a little different because of the finishes. They remind me of Shiseido’s Disrobed.
I hope you get to relax a lot this weekend.

Seraphine Avatar

Thanks, Genevieve. I loved Cinnabar in the 80s! I bought a bottle of it several years ago, but I never wear it. I just sniff it occasionally and it makes me happy. Both Dior Nude Looks are really nice. Velvet is more pink, Matte is more peach. And I own and love Disrobed!

Mariella Avatar

I got a bottle of Shalimar a few years ago, Seraphine. Like you, I used to hate it (and most Guerlain fragrances – they just don’t “work” with my skin chemistry) but I ADORE Shalimar now. I think it’s an age thing – what appeals and suits at age 40+ often didn’t appeal at age 20.

Seraphine Avatar

My hate for Shalimar only dates back 5 years. Maybe it has to do with the bottle of Jicky I bought last year. It was love at first sniff. I think Jicky got me used to civet, which is also in Shalimar. Weird, though, because in the 1970s my mom wore the very animalic Bal a Versailles and I LOVED it, but I haven’t smelled it since the 70s. Perfume is so interesting!

Mariella Avatar

Oh, Jicky!!!! I remember begging my mom to buy me a bottle when I was probably 13 years old and we’d gone to Buffalo for the day. I’d read (in 16 Magazine) that Pattie Boyd, then the girlfriend (later the wife, then the ex-wife) of George Harrison wore it and so I had to have it. It was my first and, for a long time, only bottle of fragrance. I sampled it again a few years ago at the Guerlain counter and it brought back such memories but it was so pricey that I didn’t buy it.

brendacr1 Avatar

|Ok Christine am I understanding properly? You’re going to keep 5 -7 of the puppies forever?

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing, my no-buy is stretching into it’s 5th month!

Weekend plans: We are in Vancouver on the last 2 days of our vacation. We are finally having our Celebration of Life for my Mom who passed just before Covid. We will be seeing so many relatives that we haven’t seen for a very long time, it’s going to be a very emotional day tomorrow but we can finally have closure for our Beautiful Mom.

What song hypes you up? Imagine Dragons “Believer” I would so love to see these guys in concert!

brendacr1 Avatar

Puppy heaven! My niece works at a shelter and is constantly bringing pets home to foster, her husband loves them just as much as her, dream job! Enjoy all the puppy love!

Nancy T Avatar

It’s a little bittersweet that Mama Bailey is leaving. She has obviously had it up her whiskers on her eyebrows with feeding them, even just being in the pen with them! She has the most hilariously exasperated expression on her face when she is with them! 😅

Purchases/rediscoveries:
Sephora: Youth To The People Eye Dream Eye Cream (thank you, Tarababyz!), The Ordinary Lash & Brow Peptide Growth Serum and Polypeptides and HA Serum, MUFE Aqua Seal (heard that using a tiny bit on an already loaded up with eyeshadow or mixing it on palette, then applying it to the lid, will make it hold up even to tears)
Ulta: OUI Juicy Couture eau de parfum mini in Blooming Babe because bergamot and neroli! Also, Morphe (something I NEVER thought I’d be writing!) Continuous Setting Mist.
Amazon: Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl Super Waterproof mascara.
Also, two interesting dress choices for the Annual Convention, our first in-person one in FOUR years! A lovely soft purple towel set, because Prednisone makes me living la vida loca!

Weekend plans: Zoom meeting tomorrow morning. Try to figure out a way to get my laundry done because the apartment complex laundry rooms are NOT air conditioned, not even have fans. Kicking myself for taking this particular unit 3½ years ago. Was offered a 2nd floor unit (only 8-9 steps) that DID have hookups for W&D! 🤦🏻‍♀️

What song hypes you up? An eclectic, somewhat disjointed set list, for sure! Here we go: Fleetwood Mac – “You Make Loving Fun” by the late Christine McVie, Evanescence (AMY LEE!)- ” Bring Me To Life”, “Call Me When You’re Sober”, The Weeknd – “Blinding Lights”, “Starboy”, Duran Duran – “Wild Boys”, “Rio”, “Girls On Film”, “Ordinary World”,etc, Muse – “Madness”, “Nights Of Cydonia”, “Uprising”, Lizzo – “It’s About Damn Time”, Disturbed’s David Draiman’s rendition of ” The Sound Of Silence “, Madonna – “Like A Prayer”, “Keeping My Baby”(IYKWHTM,YKW💔), ANYTHING Whitney Houston almost!
My ex-husband always said that the one job he believed that I would bloom in was as a DJ!!! IDK?

Genevieve Avatar

It’s lovely to read that you are out and about purchasing items for your upcoming convention. Where is it being held?
I hope the weather is being a bit kinder to you all in the States and Canada.
How awful that the laundry rooms are not a/c in all that heat. It would put me off doing the laundry too!

Nancy T Avatar

This year, it’s being held in our Casa Grande Assembly Hall, much nearer to home than all the way down in Tucson. To think, most years I would go back and forth all 3 days. That was a 2 hour drive each way! Which meant getting up at 5 am, leaving at 7 am, then getting there 9 am, sometimes all of what I mentioned would be one whole hour earlier, depending on who was driving.
My laundry room in Scottsdale had no AC, either. However, it did have a heavy screened wall with the door opening into an alley, so I never had a problem getting it done at night, at least.

Genevieve Avatar

My goodness, the puppies look so healthy and having 11 of them to feed and take care of is a mammoth challenge. I am sure Bailey will love being back with her owners. You are doing a wonderful job Christine.

Recent Purchases: Nada – not really seeing much on the makeup landscape here in Aus that interests me as I have so much of my own that I have to get through.

Rediscoveries: CP’s Tea Thyme lipstick, Smashbox’s Petal Metal.

Weekend Plans: The very best news is that my twin sister has been declared cancer free! She underwent a variety of scans, ultrasounds and blood tests this week and her specialist gave her the news last Thursday. We are going out to see her this Sunday and have a celebratory lunch.
Apart from some grocery shopping, there is going to be a bit of rest and relaxation for me. I am continuing to spend time at my son and DIL’s place during the week to pick up the older two from school and generally help out at their place because little missy-moo Charlotte is taking her time getting into a sleeping routine at night. A very alert and awake little girl!

What song hypes you up? Now that I have my bluetooth phone with my songs operating in my car, there are quite a few songs that ‘hype’ me up – Belinda Carlisle’s Blue Heaven and Summer Rain is a couple that come to mind.

Deborah S. Avatar

Sorry to have missed the information about your sister. I too am thrilled to hear that she is cancer free. It is such a horrible and debilitating diagnosis. I was 23 years clear on May 4th and each year I still celebrate. Congratulations to her and have a wonderful time celebrating.
Honestly, I haven’t seen much on the shelves for makeup that really thrilled me either but having gone through and done a massive declutter when I started getting back into it, there have been things I had to repurchase to round out what I kept. I am surprised that a lot of basics haven’t changed much. The eye shadow palettes seem to continue the same red/pink color stories with the occasional interesting shadow added. The brands carried at Sephora were all pretty boring when I was there. I walked up and down the shelves and wasn’t wowed by anything. I was looking forward to the new Mothership launch from PMGL but that was just another of the same old thing. I think that is why I am enjoying the Korean brands right now. I want to get back into Indie brands and will have to watch for suggestions here on the blog.

Deborah S. Avatar

Thank you so much, Sarah. Sometimes it is a struggle to keep it from impacting my life, even now. Any little unexplained ache or pain automatically triggers a fear that is indescribable. It is PTSD and wasn’t helped by my oncologist telling me that I would likely die of breast cancer, the question was when. On one level I appreciate his honesty with me but on another, it was rather unnerving. Each year that passes I feel like I have beat the cancer and him! Don’t get me wrong, he was a wonderful oncologist and his saying it probably didn’t change anything as being an RN, I knew the odds. There is a silver lining in the cloud of cancer and that is if it returns you will have plenty of warning to take care of things. I had finished my chemo and two of my three surgeries when 911 happened and I can remember vividly thinking that at least I wouldn’t leave for work one morning and just never return. I am thankful for the opportunities that has opened for me with regards to preparing my daughter. At the time of my diagnosis she was 5. She just turned 29 but our bond is so strong that I know when I do pass, whether from cancer or something else, it is going to be devastating for her. She is essentially an only child as she is not close to her half sister or any of her father’s family. She just has me and my family and we are not a large family. Deep down, I know that nothing can prepare her but I like to try and see the post cancer world in as rosy a hue as I can, LOL!!

Mariella Avatar

G, that is such good news about your sister. I can’t even begin to imagine how relieved and thankful you all must be feeling! Honestly, I can’t even imagine how great a weight and worry have been lifted from all of you, especially your sister. Send her a big THUMBS UP from Canada!

Like you, I have so much makeup – too much makeup (my husband is right about that) and so much of it goes unused just because there is so much and really, my makeup looks are pretty minimal. I used MAC Havana yesterday for the first time in maybe a year (or more) and wondered why I don’t reach for it more often. So I’ll be reaching for it now but leaving other things “in the dust”.

Recent purchases: Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint in shade 1 which is cool toned and very fair. I tried the neutral undertone and it was actually a bit dark on me so opted for the cool toned shade. Benetint in Rose Tint, Inglot shadow in Rainbow shades 130 and 117 which are three pan palettes with coordinating shades. I purchased Pat McGrath lipstick in Guinevere and Rare Beauty Lip Pinch in shades Wonder and Delight. I also got the Rare Beauty Discovery Eye Shadow palette in Give Yourself Grace. All of the above were purchased from Sephora in Vancouver as my daughter and I were there to celebrate her 29th birthday. From online purchases I got Tru Alchemy Glow Serum, Frownies for both my 11’s and my lip lines, from Chic Decent I purchased JudyDoll Matte Lip Mud in shade P04, JudyDoll Double Under Eye Liner in shades S01 and L01, JudyDoll Blush Highlighter in shade 61, JudyDoll Brighten Palette Duo in 01, Cool and finally JudyDoll Enjoy Color Game Eye Shadow palette in shade 14. From Flower Knows I purchased two bundles, one for my daughter and one for myself. Both bundles were made up of products from the Midnight Mermaid collection and from Florasis I purchased a couple of setting powders, Jade and Peach. The last two lines I haven’t received yet, obviously. For skincare I purchased the HaruHaru Wonder line and two of the Baazal Box’s curated by Kareno. Both are sold out now but wish I had purchased a third one. I will be ordering a couple of the products individually.

Weekend Plans: I have been working hard on my house and finished having the exterior painted, new flooring in four rooms, a new back deck and next month a new front porch. I started the house update with the thought that I might sell it early next spring. I am going to play it by ear though as I have been feeling much better and stronger so will stay however many winters I can stand. So, this weekend, I am planting some bulbs, working on going through boxes in storage and preparing for having the whole front porch ripped out and replaced.

Songs: I am an old school rock chick girl. I love my 60’s and 70’s music. I saw Queen just before the pandemic and they are coming back to the USA in October an November. When I saw them, my daughter had just started a new job so she couldn’t take the time to see them. She has regretted it ever since. So, we are seeing them in November in Denver. I am seeing Ed Sheeran the end of August in Seattle. So, songs I love to rock out to, Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen, Killer Queen by Queen, Radar Love by Golden Earring and anything by the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Peter Frampton. I so wanted to see Peter Frampton in Lincoln CA the middle of this month but I have an important funeral to attend so will have to miss him. I hope to see him somewhere else on his tour.

Genevieve Avatar

It’s so fabulous that you are getting back into your makeup again and I think your new Rare Beauty eyeshadow palette will suit you down to the ground.
That’s a mighty amount of work you are doing to your home and once it is finished it will be great for you to enjoy. Maybe the next few winters won’t be as brutal as some of them in the past.
Best wishes Deborah!

Deborah S. Avatar

I can only hope that they are milder for a few years. My daughter is still pretty adamant about my moving over to Seattle but I have at least a couple more winters in me, I think. I did have a weird spell in December of 2022 where I lost memory of about 4-6 hours and those memories have never returned. I remember hearing my mail carrier bring a package onto my front porch and I must have gotten the package because it was next to me on the bed when my brother arrived. I also called my daughter without realizing it. I was upset with her because she wasn’t home and I kept asking her where she was at. She recognized that something was wrong and kept me on the phone while calling my brother and telling him that I was talking weird. Since my mother had a stroke a year ago last May, she thought maybe I was having one. My brother arrived and took me to the emergency room which is about an hours drive. Apparently, all the way there I kept asking him where Aislinn was. He wouldn’t tell me. I still don’t remember anything about that drive. They ran a battery of tests and found nothing wrong. I did go back for more testing as the equipment became available but they sent me home that night. I insisted upon going home to my house. On the way home I finally looked at my brother and said, “Aislinn lives in Seattle!” He looked at me and said, “You finally remember!” I have no returned memory of those hours both at home and in the emergency room and all testing is normal. I made some changes to my diet and will have to share that with you at some future date but that combined with forcing myself to get out of the house has really been my salvation. I am so glad to be feeling better and healthier. I hope I can keep it up through the winter. So glad to be back on the blog and able to check in with everyone!! I have missed you all and missed makeup, LOL!!

Deborah S. Avatar

Thank you so much, Rachel. I am happy to see you still here on the blog as I rely on you for the Indie brands!! I want to try several so will be looking for your recommendations as time goes by!
It was my aunt who passed away. I lost my uncle from the same family a few months ago. These are my mother’s siblings. There were six children. The first to pass was my aunt who I had living in Sacramento with me as she suffered organic brain damage from meningitis back before antibiotics. She had to relearn to walk, talk, write, etcetera. As she matured she became difficult to handle and my grandparents placed her in a state run facility in Montana. When Reagan became president, he turned a lot of clients like my aunt, out to half way houses or the streets. She lived in a private home in Sacramento for 30 years, passing away at the age of 80. I had planned to bring her home to Montana with me and still feel remorse that she didn’t live long enough to have that dream fulfilled. Then her older sister passed about 4 years ago. She was 92 and lived a long and productive life. Next, the only boy passed and then my “favorite” aunt passed and that is the funeral we are having in just under two weeks. She was 92 when she passed. So my mother who is 88 and another aunt who is now 92 are the only siblings left. My mother has been losing a lot of weight lately for no explained reason so I am a little worried about her but healthcare here in rural Montana leaves a lot to be desired. My mom just wants to let nature take it’s course so we will see. My 92 year old aunt is in great shape. She has remained active and until a couple of years ago still square danced three nights a week. I think she still would but her boyfriend has had health problems and has been in and out of the hospital so she has been taking care of him. It is so interesting how children raised in the same family and with the same food, environment and genes, have such different life spans. My uncle was exposed to bomb testing while in the military in Nevada. He had health issues all his life and still lived to be 89. My mother has longevity on her side of the family.
I hope that you have been well and thank you for my daughter’s birthday wishes!

Deborah S. Avatar

I so wish that I had gotten to see them when Freddie was alive. I was so busy working that going to concerts was not even on my radar. It probably wouldn’t be now except that my daughter is such a music fan and goes to as many concerts as she can afford. I have always loved music and have so many memories attached to songs that I don’t know why it never translated into attending concerts. I know when I was a teenager my father wouldn’t let us go because of “drugs”. He didn’t want us exposed. Once I finished nursing school and started working, that was all I did. I have recently regretted devoting so much of my life to my profession. Don’t get me wrong, I loved being a nurse but it really was at the expense of my life. Anyway, in the 90’s I started going to concerts and was so happy to have seen those artists that I did see. I saw Prince which was so wonderful, given that he passed away. I am also seeing a lot of young artists that my daughter loves. She is a huge Harry Styles fan and saw him four times on his last concert tour. I saw him once with her and it was rather funny. I got my ticket the day of the concert. There were only two seats left and they were both behind the sound stage. It turned out that his second stage was on the sound stage so I actually had a better view of him than she did. I tease her all the time about he and I having a “moment” where our eyes met, LOL!! As I mentioned, we are seeing Ed Sheeran the end of the month. She lucked into tickets to see Taylor Swift about two weeks ago in Seattle. A co-worker knew she had wanted to see Taylor and hadn’t been able to get tickets. It was a feeding frenzy for tickets and Aislinn didn’t even get wait-listed. Her co-worker had a friend who got two tickets and the person that was going with her got sick so she sold Aislinn the ticket for face value which was $250 dollars. Aislinn was in the first section about five rows up. She called me from the stadium crying she was so happy. Anyway, I saw Queen with Adam Lambert and really enjoyed the show. Adam was very upfront and after the first song he told everyone that he wasn’t there to try and by Freddie Mercury as that was an impossibility but that he wanted to honor Freddie and the music that he made. It was a wonderful show. Brian May suffered a heart attack during the pandemic and it took him quite a while to recuperate. I knew they had stopped their tour with the European dates unfinished and wasn’t sure if they would ever tour again. They completed an abbreviated European tour and then no announcement of anything else. I have been subscribed to their channel and Brian’s IG channel and so is my daughter. She saw the posting at almost the same minute I did and called me. She got the tickets because she is faster at the computer than I am and we had set a price limit. I was willing to go quite a bit higher just to see them again so we got really wonderful seats. We are on the floor in the third row back. I was five rows back when I saw them in Seattle and I could have reached out and touched The Red Special. What an iconic moment for me. I am praying that nothing happens to interrupt the tour this time.
Glad to be back on the blog and to see you still here Nancy. I hope that you have been well?

Recent purchases/rediscoveries: No new purchases (and I walked right by the BIG Sephora in Toronto yesterday but I was with my hubs and my dear cousin, whom I’ve not seen in almost a year, so didn’t feel I could duck in!) Rediscoveries – the ND Glam palette with the weird labelling of the colours (Outer Corner, Center of Lid, etc.) – it is such a nice assortment of shades but largely because of the daft colour names, I rarely use it.

Weekend plans: It’s the August long weekend here though because it’s summer, every weekend seems like a long weekend. Today, I’m going to the gym and then the fabric store to get some Montreal Canadiens fabric to make shorts for grand-daughter. I need to pick up a prescription on the way home and then stop at the library. When I get home, I want to finish the dress I’m making for grand-daughter and then start on her shorts (my son in law’s dad is a MASSIVE Montreal Canadiens fan – so he’ll get a huge kick out the shorts!)

Song that hypes me up: An oldie but a goodie – I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston.

Genevieve Avatar

Yes, it’s definitely quite inhibiting when you have your husband and another person around to duck into a Sephora store, I can understand that!
I ignore the silly labelling of the Glam palette because I just love the shades – I have actually hit pan on a couple of them. I took out my somewhat neglected Naked 2 yesterday and it reminded me of how good UD used to be.
The sports shorts are a great idea and I hope you get to finish both the beautiful dress and the shorts.

Recent Purchases: I did end up purchasing the new Gourmande Girls Nightshade palette, which is the first palette I’ve purchased in a while! Also some refills of some products I use most days.

Rediscoveries: I used my Kaleidos Club Nebula palette for the first time in a while and was reminded how beautiful it is.

Weekend plans: Going to a Whitney Houston tribute concert with some new friends Friday (it was a blast by the way!), doing normal adult things the rest of the weekend.

What song hypes you up? Most 80s music, it just depend on the mood and how unexpected the song is.

Rachel R. Avatar

Those puppies are almost criminally cute! Best wishes for Bailey.

RECENT PURCHASES: Nothing beauty related. I got some yarn some obnoxiously neon pink yarn that was on sale.

WEEKEND PLANS:
Today is stitch circle at the local crochet shop with my younger son’s GF. I have a few projects going on, but I’ll probably work on the purple skull motif shawl I was making myself. Now that I understand the pattern better, I completely frogged it and started over. I also switched to a crochet hook size more appropriate to the yarn I’m using. At home, I’ll be washing and blocking a shawl I made for my friend, and packing it up to mail to her on Monday. Then, helping my younger son with some paperwork.

Tomorrow, we go back to the shop for the beginner Tunisian crochet class.

WHAT SONG HYPES YOU UP?
I’m rarely hyped up. Almost anything by Duran Duran will do the trick, though!

Helene Avatar

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: So I finally managed to go to a real make up store, and I found nothing! Sure there were lots of skincare, but I don’t need anything right now, there were the usual brands that had nothing fun to offer, the only tempting thing was eyeshadow sticks from Lancome, but I found them too expensive. I did need a pick me up so I got three nail polishes, two from OPI, Kiss My Aries and Emflowered and from Essie Flirt with Freedom. So a red a pink and a purple.
Rediscoveries, no, nothing this week.

Weekend plans: Same old, gardening if it doesn’t rain, relaxing, maybe read or watch some movie or show.
Dog walks as usual.
What song hypes you up? So, so many!

Helene Avatar

I generally like OPI, but this one was harder to apply as it was just that, on the thick side. I think the more shimmery and glittery polishes are a bit better. This one is a cream. The result is nice, as it self levelled, didn’t pool around the edges and is opaque after two layers. It did take some time to dry, even though I used Seche Vite quick drying top coat, as I always do.
I’m on day three now with no issues like chipping, some polishes chip for me after one day so anything over three days is a win for me.
