Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I bought the new elf blushes/highlighters but haven’t had a chance to swatch yet!
Weekend plans: I might have taken on four new bottle babies yesterday… There was a litter of eight, five-day old pups that were rejected by their mama (mom was just terrified of her pups), so here I am with four of them. They’re the Yoga Poses litter, and I have Cobra (yellow), Warrior (red), Tree (brown), and Lotus (blue).
Do you like movie sequels? I think they’ve gotten better in the last decade than they used to, but sequels are often a double-edged sword… at least I can always pretend there’s no sequel if it is really bad.
Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:
- Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
- Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
- Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
- Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)
This week's doggo photo/video...

REDISCOVERIES: Tarte Precious Gems Amazonian Clay Cheek Palette
WEEKEND PLANS: Saturday, we’re going to see Renfield with our younger son and his GF. Yeah, we could wait for it to stream, but we need some fun and the weather here is still cold and crappy. Hubby and I might go out to dinner alone afterwards. I’m recovering from dental work on a cracked molar, so it may depend on my pain level. It’s much better today, so I should be alright.
Other than that, help my sons get caught up on some housework. I need to do laundry and finish spring cleaning my bedroom.
DO YOU LIKE MOVIE SEQUELS?
Sometimes. Mostly I think they’re really bad and just cash grabs, though.
Oh Rachel, a cracked molar – they can be very painful (and expensive to fix), I hope that you are able to go out for dinner and enjoy your meal.
I also hope that you and your family enjoyed the film and it gave you all a good laugh. Our weather was beautiful and mildly sunny up until this afternoon and now it is cold, crappy and rainy….
I’m sorry your weather turned yucky. Ours went back to rainy today.
The movie was fun and hilarious. Just what we needed. The locally owned theater we prefer to go to a couple towns over remodeled since we’d been there last. There were super comfortable, reclining seats with lots of legroom. My back and hips didn’t hurt at all by the end.
Ugh, nothing quite like a cracked or broken molar to drive one to eat mush! Arizona AHCCCS doesn’t cover adult dental, except for extreme emergencies. And so I have 3 busted up molars that I really need to set aside funds for getting those repaired and crowns put on them. Hopefully, your’s didn’t ruin your weekend outing!
Ugh, three broken molars. It’s awful how little dental states cover.
More BEBE puppy content! Yayyy! 😍🐕🐕🐕🐕
Purchases/rediscoveries: Made a mini Sephora Rouge Sale haul last night for Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Balm after having wonderful results with the birthday month mini! Also, another tub of Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream. Was REALLY hoping that there would be a restock of the Rare Beauty Lip Oils, as I have a few that I would love to have for summer! But NOPE!
Weekend plans: Just food shopping and my Saturday morning Zoom meeting. Possibly a swim on Sunday.
Do you like movie sequels? Depends on the franchise and the quality of its production, acting, story line, etc!
I think the Farmacy brand is a good one, pity it is so expensive here at Sephora’s. I would buy the cleansing balm too because I have read such good things about it.
I hope you get to have a swim on Sunday and that the weather is pleasant enough for you to do so.
I really like the Farmacy cleansing balm (and also their Sleep Tight overnight mask/moisturizer). Those Sephora birthday gifts are dangerous…..I’ve got the Tatcha Rice Cleanser on my Sephora list….it’s SO pricey for a cleanser but I like it so much (I’ve already succumbed to the moisturizer that was in the birthday gift; maybe I should just STOP accepting the birthday gifts!) I find the Brazilian Bum Bum cream just way too pricey for what it is. I like it but I’m a bit cheap when it comes to body products (well, most of the time!)
Mariella, it was their Birthday Month gifts that got me seriously hooked on BOTH of these products, LOL! I only buy the Bum Bum Cream twice a year during the Rouge sales. It not only keeps my skin very moisturized and soft, but I LOVE how it smells on me right after I have showered! It’s an addiction!
And now the same is true for Farmacy Green Clean!
The scent of the Bum Bum Cream is amazing!
What gorgeous little puppies and such a shame that their mum was unable to nurse them. How good of you and Shaun to welcome another little bunch of happiness and love into your home. You will be quite experienced now dealing with puppies of this age. How lucky they are to be with you.
Recent Purchases: After seeing CP’s Party Mix reviewd, I knew it was my kind of lipstick, so I ordered it. The trouble is that the shipping costs are the same price as the lipstick….hola!
Rediscoveries: Nearly every week I use ND’s Glam – such a versatile palette despite the naming issues.
Still loving Pixi Beauty Reflex Light palette too.
Lipsticks – I have been using Lantern Red and Sleeping Dragon lately as well (from Shiseido)
Weekend Plans: My twin sister has had her lumpectomy and it turned out to be an horrific ordeal.
When she was under anathesia, she develiped an anaphylactic response to one of the 4 gases and had to be intubated and revived. The anesthetist said later that this had never happened to him before and he hopes that it never happens again. The surgeon was initially unsure whether to proceed with the operation, but then decided to as she had stablised. They removed the offending lump and two lymph nodes. She is currently recovering in ICU.
We saw her after she came out of recovery and had no idea what had happened to her until her partner explained it to her. We are visiting her again today (Saturday).
Do You Like Movie Sequels: I am not much a movie watcher in the first place, so sequels aren’t quite my thing. However, I do like a good series and often welcome a second season.
Currently I am rewatching Third Watch – a US based series set in New York that was on the airwaves a couple of decades ago and loved. I hope the channel streams (for free) all of their seasons. It’s a great show, if now a little dated.
Oh, I’m so sorry about what happened to your sister…how scary! But I’m glad it all came out ok in the end and the lump and nodes were removed.
Yes, the operation has been successful I think, but it will be a week or so before the final pathology results on the lump will be known.
Thank you for your good wishes Seraphine. It was scary at the time.
What a scare about your sister. When the anesthetist says he’s never had that happen before, THAT is when you really worry. They used to think my best friend’s son had malignant hyperthermia (turned out later that he doesn’t), a condition which, among other things, requires a very different anesthetic if he ever needed surgery (it’s far more costly than the regular ones used which is why it’s only used in special situations). I wonder if this is the situation with your twin (and possibly you too). Has she had anesthesia before with no problems? I am SO glad the is okay and now I’m hoping for the best possible news regarding the biopsy results.
I SO hear you about shipping costs (one of the reasons I have nothing from Colour Pop and only one thing – Christine’s palette – from Sydney Grace).
The hospital is keeping my sister in ICU until they find out what exactly happened during the anesthetic procedure – they have narrowed it down to one of two gasses – the muscle relaxant and/or the antibiotic. Apparently the surgeon checked with the head of Anaesthesia before they proceeded with the operation, but since my sister responded well to the recovery process and her stats were normal, they then proceeded.
As her surgeon said to her later, it could be months before we find out what you were actually allergic to and this operation could not wait months to get the lump out.
They are assessing her heart for any adverse reactions to the adrenaline – CT scans, ultrasounds etc. So I think the hospital is being thorough.
I have had quite a few operations without any issues and many years ago Allison had one for her sinuses – the only negative effect for her was nausea after the operation. So this is out of the blue.
She was in good spirits when I saw her last night.
Yep, the shipping costs do get you – although SG’s are quite reasonable when you are ordering a couple of things. Generally CP’s are too – it’s that I just ordered one lipstick and not a whole lot of other things.
Also, thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes Mariella. It is greatly appreciated.
You are so welcome. I wish there was something “more” I could do (gee, if we lived near one another, I’d bring you some raspberry meringue squares and some soup!)
Thank you Mariella – you are such a kind, kind person!
Such a worry – medical procedures are scary enough without “medical mysteries” thrown into the mix. My sis in law has dreadful nausea after anesthesia and I guess it’s a fairly common reaction but the other stuff – it’s just such a blessing that they were able to stabilize her and continue with the surgery. Now all that’s needed is a good result from the biopsy and/or a good treatment plan. Again, all the best to her. Good to read that she was in good spirits after all this.
It sounds like they are very thorough in the treatment of your sister.
It would be interesting to know what they find out, I’d really like to know. I guess this is the nurse in me writing.
I’m so happy that she’s doing well now.
You’ll have to tell her that she has people from all over the world sending positive thoughts and caring about her wellbeing.
My comments always crash, after I wrote a bit. So, terribly sorry about your sister. The whole family must have been terrified. I hope she does not require years of therapy for mistrust in the medical system. Hope it is smooth sailing from here on out.
Thank yoou kjh – the hospital is being very thorough in checking out my sister’s heart and everything after the operation. They are being very upfront and honest with her and I am thinking that her heart will be fine. She is in good shape at the moments and is not struggling at all with what had happened to her whilst under anaethesia.
We are just waiting for the final pathology on her lump and we’ll take it from there.
I am so glad your sister is ok! Hopefully she continues to have a good recovery. I’m glad the surgeon went ahead and finished — I understand all the reasons they can’t sometimes, but I can’t imagine waking up and finding out I had to go through all that again.
Enjoy your show!
You are so right Brandi – it would have been a nightmare if she had woken up to find out that she had to go through all of this again and it was imperative that they get the lump out now. As she responded well to the treatment for the anaphylactic reaction, the decision was made to go ahead with the operation.
They are checking out her heart to ensure there was no adverse effects of the adrenaline they gave her, so she is in the best place. The hospital is really taking care of her. So far, her recovery has been excellent.
Thank you for you good and kind wishes.
Oh, that sounds absolutely terrifying of an anesthesia reaction for your poor sister! I’m sure that you’re all relieved that they were able to get her stabilized and through the rest of her procedure without any further issues. Around 6-7 weeks before my hysterectomy last year, I had had a really severe asthma attack where it was touch and go. They injected me with an antibiotic that caused anaphylaxis, thankfully very easily reversible. These drugs they’re coming up with, I’m telling you!
Thank you Nancy – yes I can remember your ordeal with your hysterectomy. The doctors are thinking that it could have been the antibiotic that caused the anaphylaxis too and as she stablisized quickly they were able to go ahead with the operation. Scary for you too!
I am so sorry about what you and your sister are going through. Hugs across the ocean. (I don’t know if replies get through after a post closes but it’s worth a try.)
Thank you so much Lesley, your kind thoughts and wishes are greatly appreciated and she is very touched to know that people across the world are wishing her well.
I’m glad your sister is ok now. What a terrifying thing to have a loved one go through.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’ve been using MAC Mineralize Blush in Like Me, Love Me and I think it’s the perfect light coral for summer. I’m really glad I took a chance on it — was in Ulta with a coupon and just picked it up on a whim.
Weekend Plans: Just relaxing, thankfully. After getting back from Cabo at the end of March, both the husband and I were struck with the worst cold we’d had in a long time. Luckily, it wasn’t Covid but it was a very long recovery.
Do you like movie sequels? I love sequels, whether books or movies, because if I enjoyed that world the first time around then I always want to revisit it! I can tolerate some pretty bad sequels as long as they bring back the scenery and characters I loved.
How awful coming back from a lovely holiday to be struck down with a shocking cold and they can take such awhile to get over. Was it like a flu?
I generally like sequels in books and TV series for the very same reason that you do, as long as it is well written.
I hope you feel better this weekend Brandi.
We both tested negative for flu as well, which was odd. Husband did come down with a respiratory complication and needed antibiotics, but I did not. In my experience, flu tends to burn fast and hot through us and this was more of a lingering cold. Spoke to another friend whose daughter just recovered from the same thing, so it must be going around.
That was good news that you didn’t have either covid, the flu or both and sometimes you do need antibiotics to clear up the secondary chest infection. I think that since our respective lockdowns all manner of nasty viruses have been floating around for us. And the up and down weather patterns on both sides of the world aren’t helping.
Yesterday morning was in summer clothes, today I am rugged up for winter.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No makeup, but I ordered a new pair of super opaque black tights and a tarot deck (as if I don’t already have enough of either of these things already!).
Weekend plans: Still recovering from this severe cold, so just staying home and taking it easy. Probably reading, music, and a lot of binge-watching.
Do you like movie sequels? It really depends on the movie. There are great sequels and pointless sequels.
It must be the lingering winter weather that is giving everyone over there bad, bad colds. I usually get one at the change of the seasons – either autumn or spring. I hope you start to feel better soon.
Purchases – nothing (waiting for the Sephora sale next week). Rediscoveries: Shiseido Bloodstone lipstick (I think it’s a formula that has since been discontinued – what else is new!) – it is such a perfect deep, slightly warmed red (a perfect fall shade even though we’re well into spring); a cheap old Covergirl eyeshadow palette called Shimmering Sands. With the really hot weather that is suddenly upon us (but we have snow in the forecast next week!) it has been perfect – just a light and brightening trio of shadows.
Weekend plans: Gym both days and some baking and as DH is out over the dinner hour, I’m making a shrimp and soba dish just for ME (he is allergic to shellfish) and if I have time, doing a test run of a recipe I want to make for a baby shower in a few weeks. Tomorrow, meeting up with my daughter in law’s mom for lunch – she’s leaving for Japan in a few days and we want to pick her brain about airlines, tour bookings, etc. After that, heading to the city where our daughter lives for a visit with her and the baby (son in law is away this weekend).
Movie sequels? Rarely, as they’re so often very watered down extensions of the “original” calculated to cash in on the popularity of the original.
I think that Bloodstone lipstick is a beautiful shade (just looked it up) and it’s a shame that it has been d/c – lipsticks do regularly as we both know.
Enjoy your seafood dinner Mariella, it will be a treat for you.
Japan is a beautiful place – very, very clean and the people there are so friendly and helpful. Many do speak English as well, so that can help you. I hope your weekend visit to your daughter and baby finds them well and thriving. She must be getting quite big now and be very, very cute.
No big plans this weekend…I live in Palm Springs so Cochella is here this weekend so I will be laying low at home….Did some major damage at the Sephora sale….I was a bad girl! Only problem is that the Rare Beauty lip oils I really wanted are not available along with some other stuff that I really don’t need anyway.
Am also going to the movies also this weekend as it’s hot and I will use any excuse to go eat popcorn.
Going to see Mafia Mama…it’s probably silly but will fill the day….Also Genevieve, I had a lumpectomy last year and I wouldn’t wish the stress on anyone…the worry is the worst part….if I could do anything this weekend it would be to PLAY WITH THOSE PUPPIES !!!!!!
Thank you Penny for your kind thoughts re my sister. And yes, the waiting for results and the stress of it all is the worst part. I hope that you have fully recovered from your ordeal with it as well.
Your not a bad girl, you are being savvy in taking advantage of the sales! Don’t worry, I would too if Sephora Australia had anything like the sales you have over in the US.
Recent Purchases: The Edward Scissorhands 2 palette from Wicked Widow Beauty (so stunning), the BellaBeauteBar Pastel Garden palette, some colored liners from CP (Prance! Finally!) and Game Beauty, as well as some replacements for some skincare I used up.
Rediscoveries: I’ve had so much fun going thru my singles lately. Wow, I have so many beautiful eyeshadows and I should use them more!
Weekend plans: much needed cleaning, and Sunday meeting up with my BFF for breakfast and shopping.
Do you like movie sequels? It really just depends on the movie.
My SG singles are just fabulous and reading your comments make me want to use them all next week. Have fun with your BFF and I hope you get a bargain whilst shopping.
Ilene, light skin, dk green eyes, med-dark brown hair now featuring a money piece!
Christine, you and your husband are wonderful animal parents, both foster and permanent and I felt for you that you had to send the puppies along to their next home.
Genevieve, I am so sorry for what your sister has been going through and what happened during her surgery is frightening. I hope that she will heal quickly and that her pathology results will be good
RECENT PURCHASES: Too many! I did place a Sephora sale order yesterday but for basics, nothing exciting. Today I did order an Armani blush even though I only use cream blush these days( and have been buying too many of them). I need to stay off instagram!
WEEKEND PLANS: as it’s Sat evening, it’s mostly done already. Had dinner last night in the restaurant where we will be having a grad party for my daughter who is getting her master’s next month. Today, I attended a bridal shower and it was a lot of fun. Tomorrow, will be mostly a bit of cleaning, a top off at supermarket, etc. Maybe a walk if it’s not raining.
Here in NY this week we had summer but I prefer cooler weather, still was nice, sunny and clear. Now we are back to typical April weather.
DO YOULIKE MOVIE SEQUELS? not really. It’s never as good and what I really don’t like are the remakes.
I hope everyone has a good week and recovers from their colds.
Ilene
Lovely new puppies! I do feel a bit sad that the mother couldn’t take care of them, but they got the next best thing, spending the beginning of their lives with you and your husband and later on, Winnie of course.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I’m waiting for a few singles from MAC, they had a 25% off so I picked out a few. I was going to buy a lipstick or two but decided I actually have enough lipsticks. Or at least nearly enough 🙂
Rediscoveries, I’m wearing UD Naked 2 today. not bad at all, the little old palette. It’s not really a rediscovery as I do know I like it a lot, but I’ve not used it in a long time.
Weekend plans: I’m writing this on Sunday evening and have to admit I had no plans and I’ve not done anything worth mentioning.
Do you like movie sequels? There are a few that I’ve enjoyed, most of the time they are disappointing, unfortunately.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I hit the Rouge sale pretty hard: Haus Labs Hibiscus Haze blush (which seems to have sold out immediately after mine shipped-looks like luck was on my side!), a backup Fenty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte 110 foundation, Fenty Icon The Fill Semi-Matte The MVP and Velvet Liquid RiRi lipsticks, NARS Damned lipstick pencil, NARS Dragon Girl Powermatte lipstick, NARS Laguna 01 bronzer (their bronzer line has been converted to 9 shades of Laguna-the original, which I already have, is now Laguna 02), YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Pulsing Rosehip and Showstopping Rose lipsticks, YSL The Slim Velvet Radical Matte Upbeat Rose lipstick, Tom Ford Rose Prick To Die For lipstick, GXVE Anaheim Shine Rosewood St lipstick, and Maison Margiela On a Date travel-size fragrance.
Weekend plans: Worked all day Friday, weekly grocery run Saturday, lazy Sunday.
Do you like movie sequels? Depends on the franchise. If I liked the first one, I can usually find some degree of enjoyment in the sequels, no matter how bad they may be.
