Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Estee Lauder lipsticks (15 shades)
Weekend plans: I’m volunteering at the local puppy rescue to see the Dr. Seuss pups, which was the litter that had five cleft palate puppies (three of which I fostered but did not make it), who are getting their first vaccinations. I actually went up to see the foster who has the non-cleftie pups a couple of weeks ago as a “healing” measure 🙂 We’ll be hosting family for the Super Bowl, which we keep pretty low key – people, booze, and pizza.
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? Yoga/walking
Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:
- Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
- Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
- Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
- Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)
This week's doggo photo/video...

Recent Purchases: I did get a couple singles from the TM B2G1 sale as well as a couple singles from the new ShinebySD collab.
Rediscoveries: SG x Temptalia Quintessence palette! I paired it with ND Pastel and it was a match made in heaven.
Weekend plans: I’m driving up to see my mom for her birthday! Sunday my son and I are making a craft for valentines day.
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? I love to walk, yoga and dance around with my son.
Happy Birthday to your mum Celesta and I hope she has a lovely day.
I can see that both the Quintessence palette and the Pastel one would work well together as one has the deeper jewel tones and the other the lighter ones.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Picked up on the MAC sale Lustreglass lipsticks in $ellout and Frienda. $ellout is a beautiful shade right now on my coloring.
Weekend plans: A lot of work to catch up on because I hope to go out on Saturday night with my friend in town from Chicago to a themed club event! I have some rhinestones I’m going to add to my makeup look. Excited!
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? Hard to pick, but I love playing soccer and also really love kayaking.
That sounds exciting – a themed club event and adding rhinestones to your look would be stunning. I hope both you and your friend have a wonderful time.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: purchased the Maybelline Fit Me loose powder because I was out of powder. Rediscovered ND Mini Retro… it makes my eyes pop like crazy!!
Weekend plans: clean my apartment and make art. I might watch Poke Face, the new Natasha Leone show on Peacock, but otherwise I just want to chill.
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? I like going for walks and looking at things.
Cleaning up is an awful chore, but once it’s done then the place looks and feels better. I hope you have a relaxing weekend Stephanie.
Recent purchases/rediscoveries: Over the summer, I bought Too Faced Sunset Stripped which I used a few times and haven’t been too sure about. Pulled it out to do a minimalist warm look (only two colors on my eyes) and I think I like using it this way! I was worried that it pulls too orange/red on me, but I suspect those are just a few of the middle colors that I might prefer to avoid.
Weekend plans: We are hosting family for the Super Bowl, although one of my kids is likely going to be out of town. I’m forcing myself to use up the food we have in our pantry, because we accumulated excessive snackage over the holidays and I don’t want it to go to waste. There will be too many kinds of chips and dip, as well as cinnamon rolls and charcuterie. Also probably some weird drinks stirred with sugar swizzle sticks because I need to use up things from that cabinet as well.
Favorite way to move around/exercise: Running! When I get a good pace, it feels like I’m flying.
It’s a great idea to bring out all the food you have in the pantry for your Super Bowl family party – as we have our grandchildren over a lot (especially after school) – they are ready to eat the horse, so I do tend to stock up on some snacky things, plus a ton of fruit. My husband and I aren’t into those kind of snacks (fruit – yes) so I can imagine how you must stock up when your ‘kids’ are around.
Enjoy the game Brandi and I hope your team wins.
Winnie looks delighted and frustrated all at once! Like: “c’mon man, get out of the bag already!” 😂
Purchases/rediscoveries: What was I thinking…I ordered PMG Labs Venus In Fleurs Voyeuristic Vixen quad! This was actually all the result of my getting it and my previous order of Bronze Borealis shades mixed up. Don’t get me wrong, Bronze Borealis is lovely for a nice everyday eye. But it was the other one that I had wanted more.
Last Saturday I rediscovered the beauty and simplicity of ND Glam Midi palette and the perfect luminosity and kapow of my old tube of UD Daenerys Targaryen lipstick! Wore both with my brand new MAC Blushbaby for a gorgeous glam look to wear to the Fry’s pharmacy and food store, 😂
Weekend plans: Just now got my tub and sink unclogged by bldg maintenance, so I’ll have some cleaning up of the tub to do. Then, I have to get ready to go out and finish my food/household/health and vitamin shopping later today. Tomorrow morning is my Zoom meeting. Sunday will just be me watching the Superbowl with some Dr Pepper and snacks!
Favorite way to exercise/move around? Dancing or walking. Not so easy anymore. Not since my surgery last late March. It’s just been so much more challenging than I had expected.
Well Nancy, I happen to love both Venus in Fleurs AND Bronze Borealis – because I just love Pat’s bronzey goldie kind of shades. Yes, I know I probably have dupes (don’t want to think about that!) but both quads are just so darn pretty.
Do you have to travel far to get to the shops Nancy? Is there are handy bus around?
Good news about the tub and sink unblocked – so very annoying for you to have to wait for maintenance….
You’re so right about these 2 quads! Having received Venus In Fleurs Voyeuristic Vixen yesterday, I see that it is definitely different enough from Bronze Borealis to warrant having both, I mean VIFVV even has a STUNNING multichrome and cooler toned bronze and pale pinky beige metallics!
Thankfully, a friend brought me to Walmart and WinCo on Friday late afternoon, so I didn’t have to worry about buses and having to push what would have been a ridiculously heavy personal shopping cart home from the closest bus stop. Even with a ride, it really knocked me on my keister! I was so sore, achy and tired yesterday. Getting old isn’t for wimps, that’s for sure.
But at least I had a perfectly clean unstopped tub to indulge in a hot-as-l-could-bear shower yesterday, and some Tylenol, too! Put away all the meat in single portions contained in Ziploc freezer bags, baked some gluten free banana bread that came out so lacking in sweetness or moistness that I wonder what I did wrong? I mean, I literally waited until the banana rinds were super ripe and followed the recipe to the letter! 🤷🏻♀️
I wonder how long that toy is going to last! So cute!
Recent Purchases: Clinique Cheek Pop in Pink Honey and ABH Brow Powder Duo in Ash Brown. Although not a purchase, I traded in some of my older MAC lipsticks for an old favorite, Taupe, which was the first MAC lipstick I ever bought—more than 25 years ago—and it was my favorite for a long time, but I haven’t owned this shade in a couple of decades. I have enough old MAC products to do two more trades before they discontinue Back-to-MAC at the end of March.
Rediscoveries: As mentioned above, MAC Taupe lipstick.
Weekend Plans: Having friends over for drinks, visiting family, and doing the laundry I was supposed to do last week, but never got around to it.
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? Walking
Those Clinique Cheek Pops are such winners, aren’t they? And in a great range of shades too. Well done you for snaring your old favourite MAC Taupe lipstick – I can see it going well with all of your neutral looks too.
Recent purchases – nothing (I keep planning to go to Shoppers on Thursday for 20% off but never actually getting there – blame the weather, fatigue, other stuff). Rediscoveries: the biggest one has been Tarte Natural Beauty Blush. It used to be my “go to” but then Dior Rosy Glow and MAC Sweet Sentiment sort of pushed it into the background. It’s back in the foreground again.
Weekend plans: a friend has invited us for dinner tomorrow and I’m bringing wine and dessert. I should have read the recipe more carefully because now I’m not sure I’ll have time to chill the 2nd stage of the dessert sufficiently tomorrow for it to be “cut-able” when we plan to leave (I want to go to the gym tomorrow morning too which also limits the stage 2 making and baking times). And I really want to catch up on some sleep!
Favourite way to move around or exercise: Exercise has to be working out with my trainer and working on strength training (and now, getting my knee rehab’d – what a long and slow process!), weightlifting and such; yoga used to be high on my list but since my knee became so problematic, I had to give a lot of it up but I’m hoping to go back at some point. We live in a very “walkable” neighbourhood – restaurants, cafes, library, shops as well as lovely old and quirky houses – so walking “the hood” is another great way to get moving (when the weather is less brutal than it was a week or so back).
Now that’s a tricky problem with the dessert Mariella, what are you making – by the way? I guess if the weather is so cold, you could leave it outside to ‘set’? Ha Ha!
Walking on flattish ground would be quite helpful for your knee – I think inclines would be trickier. We live in a hilly kind of area, so I found that when I had a sore knee last year, it was a bit painful to do my daily walk. Is it kind of flat where you live or a bit hill -ish?
Enjoy your dinner out Mariella, and best wishes with the dessert.
Genevieve, the recipe was for some squares – Peach Bourbon Squares from a magazine called BAKE. Squares and coffee cakes are my favourite desserts (in addition to creme brulee). In theory, these squares – a new recipe from that magazine, which I purchase from time to time but which has recipes that are overly complicated and generally involved all sorts of complicated geometry with lengthwise slashes and twists and braidings of the dough, etc. but this recipe looked simple AND lovely. I should have gone with my instincts and cut the peaches smaller, among other things (I bought the magazine because it had an extensive article and recipes for using frozen fruit and this was frozen peaches; I should have cut each slice into 2 or 3 so they’d have softened better). Anyway, this thing tastes very nice but was overly complicated AND messy (the crumble topping fell everywhere as we ate them).
We live at the bottom of a mountain – really. My city is divided into 2 parts – “Lower City” and “The Mountain”. I’ve always liked walking/running UPHILL or UP STAIRS and it’s going down again that was hard (it’s still a bit tricky though TONS better, but I’m slowly getting used to the fact that I no longer have to fear uneven ground or walking on grass, etc. – it’s really hard to adjust to not having to be tense and cautious even with uneven sidewalks!)
Recent purchases/rediscoveries:
I bought a Lawless Lipfiller/tinted balm in the shade “love”.It looked great on instagram but Im not that impressed now that I own it. I also got a couple of Dior Plumping glosses. They are good. I recently got a lip flip and am loving it with my Chanel lipsticks.
Weekend Plans:
A little galantines day dinner with friends at our favorite after work hangout tonight, then maybe talk my hubby into driving to the coast tomorrow. I am craving some fish and chips at an oceanside table.
Favorite way to move around/ exercise:
I do some strength training/weights at sunrise followed by half an hour on the elliptical.
On the weekend, I love a good walk in the morning sunshine .
That sounds like a perfect weekend to me – P Jill. Love going out for dinner and then heading to the coast for some great fish and chips. Yep, I could handle that!
I hope it all comes to fruition and enjoy your dinner out with friends.
Happy birthday, you beautiful little doggie Winston. He has still a lot of puppy left in him!
Recent Purchases: A couple of big tubes of Nude by Nature’s original Airbrush primer – on sale.
Rediscoveries: Pixi Beauty’s Reflex Light palette
Weekend Plans: Just some housework, laundry and grocery shopping for Saturday and on Sunday (which will be much cooler), a drive to a country town, a Sunday lunch and a walkaround the touristy shops. I do like browsing in quaint country towns and so many of them really suffered during the covid lockdowns that I want to support them.
Nothing more strenuous than that.
Favourite ways to exercise: Running around after my grandchildren – especially Harry – who is very quick and fast at the park, walking and going to the pool for a swim.
One of the my dearest memories are random walks and trips around town me and my brother had with my grandmother. Hope you’ll be enjoying for a long time the wonderful moments with your grandchildren!
I’m with you on supporting small local businesses. They were so hard hit and some just never recovered.
Thank you for reminding me about SWIMMING, Genevieve! I totally forgot that activity that I enjoy the most. Like, duh! How could I when I go down to our property pool at least a few days per week during our hot 7 months here? 🏊🏼♀️
Very good shaking there from Winnie. That dragon was dead before getting out of the egg (plastic bag). It’s so much fun watching the dogs shake their toys, not as much fun if the fine a rat and does the same thing. So far we’ve not have that happen, not for lack of trying to find rats from Stubbs. He actually dug up a mouse nest when he was a pup, I dragged him away immediately and said sorry to the mouse mum.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I found some stuff from MAC that I have thought a lot about getting on sale, well sale and sale, it was the good byes.
Nippy’s Plum Rose Blush
Nippy’s Sensual Red Lipstick
Wakanda Forever Eye Khol in Feline
Wakanda Forever Lipstick in Wakandan Sunset
I got Love Me Lipstick in Daddy’s Girl and Lip Pencil in Dervish along with three samples of their new skin care and a Fix Plus Radiance as a GWP.
I have Nippy’s Rose Lipstick since an earlier purchase.
I didn’t think I’d like Daddy’s Girl, turns out I really like it a lot, The winner out of these must be Wakandan Sunset, such a beautiful, fun, stunning lipstick!
Weekend plans: Oh, same old, same old. Chores and dog walks, some TV shows, some light gaming, still WoW.
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? Driving? I really dislike exercising, I do walk quite a lot with my dear Stubbs, at least three real walks and a short one.
I sometimes do a bit of yoga and core strengthening stuff, I try to do it regularly, but so far it’s sporadic.
I had to laugh Helene about your response to exercising – I am not a fan either, loathe team sports and only do the basics. I did do pilates for awhile there – and that was fun till the teacher we had left and I didn’t warm up to the new one and the way she did the exercises.
My upper body strength has definitely improved since I’ve had my grandchildren to look after – they may be babies (not now), but boy can they can heavy after awhile.
Team sports are the worst! For someone who can’t understand balls, be it soccer, basket or whatever it was a real PIA growing up.
I used to ride a lot, that was good exercise, and team work with a beautiful animal. I wish I could afford to have a horse.
I also tried Pilates, it was OK.
For a short time I went to spinning classes, the first time I had a near death experience when doing the stretching after, I honestly thought, this is it, now I die.
I am glad I’m not the only one not loving exercising!
Recent Purchases:
Paula’s Choice: Back-ups for the Omega+ Complex Cleansing Balm and Weightless Body Treatment 2% BHA; got a 25% AHA + 2% BHA Exfoliant Peel free.
Sephora: I had some extra points and needed hair care, so I re-order the Vanilla Sky candle from Skylar and added to my cart all the hair oils and heat protectant from the Beauty Insider points section.
Rediscoveries: MAC Chili
Weekend plans: Rest, groceries, finishing Carpe Jugulum (might just become my favorite book from the Discworld series), phone calls… and just myself handle the best way I can the mark of probably the worst year in my life (yet)… I might do nothing, I might visit the local railroad museum, I might even buy tickets to the opera 1 hour before the show (if there are any left)… although I definitely should get my low pressure tire checked.
What’s your favorite way to move around/exercise? To move around I always prefer my feet. 😆 I love walking, running, hiking… But to exercise I also love weight training, feeling strong; it’s so odd that the older I get, to more I like to just lift heavy stuff and see my muscle grow.
RECENT PURCHASES/REDISCOVERIES: None
WEEKEND PLANS: Today workmen are coming in to measure for our new kitchen/dining room flooring. The usual chores and grocery shopping.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO MOVE AROUND/EXERCISE?
Walking, especially if it’s while exploring new places.
Ha – turns out I did purchase something this week. My daughter, son in law and baby were in Orlando this past week staying with his folks, who’ve rented a place for a month. Daughter was able to order and have delivered TWO bottles of Lavanila original fragrance, something which has been totally unavailable in Canada for ages and it’s a scent we both love. It was delivered to the condo while they were visiting and so she’s able to bring me back a bottle (I already e-transfered her the money).
LOL! You just jogged my memory about a purchase I made at Walmart on Friday of one of AF94’s Shadowboxer Eye Crayons in Suite & Lo to use as a (hopefully?) tearproof eye base.
