Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I bought some new items from Chanel’s recent mini collection! I don’t think there was much else that I received this past week.
Weekend plans:
My mom’s coming over for dinner and a movie tonight; we are going to watch Turning Red (hubby will also watch with us). Otherwise, the weekend should be mostly blog-filled with taking photos and editing said photos!
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? Definitely food!
P.S. — Want to chat with readers on the regular? Check out Temptalia’s Discord where you can chat about beauty, makeup, and more! 🙂
P.P.S. — Check our hubby’s new site for video gaming guides — good if you (or someone you know or your kids!) is into gaming, including crosswords and Wordle. Plus, I worked with hubby to develop our own game, Concludle.
This week's doggo photo/video...

I have fond memories of visiting family in Phoenix and lounging by the pool with their dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Anuka.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Waiting for the arrival of some new ILNP shades.
Weekend plans: Knitting hats for Ukrainian refugees.
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? Hard bound books, although I am trying to use the public library more. Also fancy groceries.
I love my local library – it has all the new releases in and often in hard back. It can save you a lot of money too if you can find the books you like to read.
Winnie is just too adorable!
Recent purchases/Rediscoveries: I haven’t visited Temptalia in a long time. The pandemic (and eye surgery) put me off of makeup for the past couple of years. But now that the masks are coming off, I’ve started to wear a little bit of makeup. I never stopped doing my brows because they’re a disaster, but I just added foundation, a tiny bit of blush, concealer, and a natural color lipstick. This past weekend, I was looking for something to replace my favorite “nude” lipstick that was discontinued and found Depends on Traffic by Urban Decay. It doesn’t look anything like the discontinued product, but I think this might be the best nude color for me yet.
Weekend plans: Visiting family, getting ready for our trip.
What’s your biggest non-beauty-related indulgence? Tarot decks. I have a huge collection and can’t stop buying them. I love the art and I like them as tools of self-reflection. (I don’t believe in fortune telling or anything supernatural.) Also Haagen Dasz. I’ve been on a successful diet for the past 9 months, but every now and then I allow myself a single-serving cup of ice cream, which is my #1 favorite food.
Welcome back to Temptalia Seraphine. I hope your eye surgery went well and I agree, masks off is a big inducement to get back to wearing makeup full on – especially lipsticks!
Glad to hear you were able to get a substitute nude lip colour for yourself – and the UD Vice lipsticks are the best thing coming from the brand at the moment.
Where are you heading off to? I hope it’s a lovely location.
And mmmm – Haagen Dasz icecream is the best!
Thanks, Genevieve! We will be going to Disney World…first time back since early 2020.
Glad to have you back! I’m glad your eye surgery went ok.
Thank you, Rachel R.!
Recent Purchases: Nothing new; I might actually start looking into the Sephora sale after two years, but just because buying presents for future trips doesn’t seem a distant thing anymore.
Rediscoveries: Paula’s Choice Lipscreen and how it saves my lips even at their worst.
Weekend plans: After almost escaping last week without a small or big tragedy (something new happens on almost weekly basis since mid-January), on Saturday I started having teeth issues. So during the weekend I’ll be still recovering after an emergency oral surgery. Today is my last day on painkillers, hope I can survive the weekend without them (should be fine, I seem to recover fast).
So I’ll enjoy my liquid food, complaining to my mom on phone about our bad family history with teeth, chores, not running, finding which exercises I can’t do because somehow my jaw moves, and so on. At least it’s a sunny weekend, so I can enjoy nature close to home.
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? Food as well. But for me it’s not on a glutinous way and I almost never go to restaurants or so takeout. For me food is an indulgence because I like to spend a lot of money on good quality food, in trying to cook at home with new ingredients, in having variety at every meal (the lockdowns created the context of my cooking fresh almost every meal and I absolutely loved it). It’s also an indulgence because I end up investing a lot of time in cooking as well.
Oh Ana Maria – how truly awful to need oral surgery (emergency at that!) – it must have been quite a severe tooth problem for you to need surgery. I hope the painkillers are working. When I had some wisdom teeth out many moons ago, the painkillers did not work on me at all. It was just awful – plus my youngest son was a baby then.
I hope you have a restful and pain free weekend and I am crossing my fingers and toes that NOTHING happens to you by next week’s post.
I hope you do all right this weekend. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Recent purchases: I ordered two lipsticks from the new Pat McGrath collection the day it came out (March 23) and they still haven’t shipped — unbelievable!
Weekend plans: meet a friend’s new baby, catch up on some work, read.
Non-makeup indulgences: probably either books or food.
Gosh – that’s a long time to wait for some lipsticks! Do they have major delivery issues? Re covid or anything?
How delightful to meet a brand new baby – how cute they are. I hope you have a lovely weekend.
My lipsticks from the Bridgerton collection are just ready to ship today! Their turnaround time is awful.
Purchases: nothing (still couldn’t get up the energy yesterday to head out to SDM after gym and busy family stuff); rediscoveries – the UD Game of Thrones palette. I’ve used colours from it for the past 3 or 4 days.
Weekend plans: gym tomorrow and then to check out a bakery to see what they can do for a baby shower cake for my daughter; Sunday, brunch out with my NEW daughter in law and my son, (they’re back living with us as they prep to move to Japan; son leaves in one week; his new wife is waiting for her interview with the Consulate; the rigmarole of negative PCR tests for entering Japan is a nightmare of complications); my friend who recently moved here will be joining us as will my daughter and son in law and the kids all want to see friend’s new condo so we’ll be going over there afterward for a visit and birthday cake (my daughter, son and son in law all have birthdays around this time though son will be in Japan when his actual birthday rolls around).
Biggest non beauty indulgence; but for Covid, I’d probably have said “travel” (our planned trips to Denmark and Norway both got scrapped) but with son moving to Japan, it may once again be travel though the way the Covid case numbers are looking, I’m not so sure…. Other than that, it’s probably fabric. I love to sew and while not everything turns out, it’s a great (and sometimes expensive) hobby.
Hope you find the very cake you want Mariella – sometimes it really hard to find exactly what you want. I taught a child (a long time ago), whose mother was a professional cake maker and she did all of my kids birthday, engagement, wedding cakes etc. It just made it so easy to go to her place and work out the design.
Best wishes on your new DIL getting through the complications involved in moving to Japan. My best friend’s son came over to Aus for Christmas this past year from the UK and it was a mountain of online work he had to do to get here. So I have some idea of what you all are going through.
Have a lovely weekend and happy birthday to your son.
Oh Winnie, I so envy you basking in the sun. I probably won’t envy you in a couple of months when even walking to the door causes sunstroke.
Haul: I did purchase a couple of pieces from the ColourPop Celestial collection which dropped yesterday or the day before? Anyway, I purchased it yesterday. Not sure why it spoke to me but it did. I definitely have similar colors but just was drawn to it and heaven knows, with ColourPop it wasn’t a large investment. Now we will see how long it takes for them to get it into the mail. It has been probably 8 months since I placed my last order from them and it took about 2 weeks to ship and another week to arrive. As for the Sephora sale, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but I do have the PMGL Bridgerton Diamond of the First Water eyeshadow palette and Divine Blush palette in my cart. No lie, I am looking at just one color in the palette and that is the blue shade called Regency Blue. I do love the names of all the shades in this release which is unusual for me. I usually find one I don’t like. I love that it doesn’t have a gold in it but I would be happy if it didn’t have two of the pinkie shades. In any event, I haven’t purchased anything from PMGL in forever, like well over 18 months and the packaging is really beautiful. Am I talking myself into it, yes!! I am sad that all the lippies are sold out and don’t really want to order them from the PMGL website as I have never had good luck on that site. I haven’t read any reviews on the E/S palette so hopefully it won’t be bad. I haven’t really found an eyeshadow from Pat that wasn’t great so we will see. Also thinking about skin care but sadly, don’t know what I want yet.
Weekend Plans: Not much. I am going to start prepping my entryway and kitchen floors to change out the flooring. I have ceramic tile in my entryway and since my kitchen and dining room open to each other, I have ceramic in the kitchen but wood in the dining room. I really hate standing in one spot in your house and seeing three or four different floor coverings. I like the look of a continuous flooring. Also, the ceramic tiles are not the same. Not sure what the builder was thinking. The ceramic tile in the entry way and a couple of cracked tiles, likely due to poor subfloor prep and the kitchen tile is suffering from the top layer peeling off. I have never heard of such a thing and certainly never seen it. I don’t wear heals and my brother thinks it is weather driven but who knows. I am trying to decide if I want to try and do it myself or hire someone to do it for me. My cousin says that I can easily do it myself and my brother just laughs when I say that. I am someone who doesn’t know which end of the hammer you are suppose to use. I would just love to save the installation fee.
Non -beauty purchases: Easily my crafting supplies. I am an avid crafter doing mixed media, scrapbooking and my current passion, origami. I made a lot of origami ornaments for my tree the last two years and this year I want to make a couple of origami themed trees. Overall, origami paper is pretty cheap but when you buy a lot or buy the more beautiful paper for special models, it can escalate the cost quite a bit. Plus my favorite paper, called silk tissue foil, comes from France so there is the added shipping cost. Living alone in the woods of Montana, and with the long winters, you have to find something to pass the time. I justify my crafting as my treatment for my mental health and I truly believe I would not make it through the winters without it.
Oh, I believe you Deborah about your frigid, arctic like winter’s, because that’s precisely how I feel about our wretchedly inferno summers here in Arizona! Gotta have something fun to do to do indoors.
As for the flooring…hmm, IDK how you would feel about doing the rest of it in wood to match, or go with wood-looking laminate that matches your real wood?
Yes, woke up to winds and snowing this morning. Just when I thought spring was here, Mother Nature has reminded me that in Montana, she decides when winter is over! Glad to see you are well enough to at least read and answer here on Temptalia. Glad everything went well with the surgery and hope you will be back to better than 100% soon.
Firstly – so glad to hear you are back rumaging around in your makeup bag(s) and purchasing more that suits you. As to your flooring – yes three different kinds would send me a little loopy as well. We have mostly carpet and tiles and the carpet does need replacing. A major expense and decision.
But personally, I would get someone in to do it – they can measure, lay and organise everything in a day. Save your back, knees and mind!
The weather would most likely be the cause of your problems – I would say.
I am glad that your crafting brings you such enjoyment and comfort in the harsh winter months in Montana.
You are right, I will undoubtedly end up paying someone. I have big ideas but when it comes down to actually doing it, I would like it to look good when I am done and if I do it myself, that likely will not happen!
I’m glad you have crafting to get you through. Well worth the cost of supplies.
Recent Purchases: I bought two clear top empty palettes off Mercari/Poshmark but I think that’s all!
Rediscoveries: Fyrinnae Luxury!
Weekend plans: First big family dinner since Christmas!
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? Indie perfumes! But it’s a lovely pastime!
Maybe indie perfumes are still beauty related lol oops. Then I will say… food delivery!
Have a wonderful family reunion dinner Cat – I hope the weather is kind to you too.
I hope you have a lovely time with your mum Christine and that the movie is a good one.
Winnie looks nice and relaxed there on the chair enjoying the sun!
Recent Purchases: All my Shiseido Visionary Lipsticks have arrived: Firecracker, Lantern Red, Shinza and they have been a delight to wear.
Rediscoveries: Smashbox’s Petal Metal and Contraversy – that gorgeous blue shade in bareMinerals The Wild Thing.
Weekend Plans: Yesterday (Friday) I went out for lunch with my two best girlfriends and my twin sister was able to join us. She has recovered from her bad bout of a flu/infection (not covid) now. It was a wonderful catch up for all of us.
Saturday – Daylight saving is coming to an end tonight – thank goodness and we have been getting some genuine autumn weather here for the past week. It has been bliss after the extremely hot and humid summer we’ve had.
Over the weekend there will be some cleaning, laundry and food shopping. I hope to go out for a drive and a Sunday lunch tomorrow.
It’s my daughter in law’s birthday on Monday, so I am taking dinner over to their place so that my son and her can go out for dinner themselves. I usually buy her a big bag of skincare goodies for her birthday, but she has such a stash left over from Christimas that this time I am giving her money to buy herself some clothes for work.
Biggest Non-beauty related indulgence: Hmmm – I would probably say going out to restaurants with my family and friends.
Buying clothes is another one – although I am extremely picky (with regard to colours and fabric quality) and I will go to an outlet or will peruse the sales. Rarely do I buy anything full price.
Yeah, it’s beginning to get toasty out there! Dogs and cats really seem to enjoy the heat, so go them, LOL 😹
Purchases/rediscoveries: Definitely NEITHER. Haven’t worn makeup since the day before my surgery. And right now, I’m writing you from a skilled nursing facility and rehabilitation center to help me manage pain while also doing more walking and today stair climbing so that I can get back into my place and also get out each day.
That said, I DO presently have one item in my Sephora shopping cart. Just waiting for the sale in a few more days to push pay!
Oh, but I did just order THREE pairs of very soft, loose fitting pants in linen blend for 2, and parachute fabric for the other. Like, I SERIOUSLY don’t want any jeans for the next few months.
Weekend plans: Spending it here doing stair work and walking the hallways as much as I possibly can. Not going to overdo it, though. The staff here is wonderful and very helpful. Decent food compared to Banner University MC! Hope to be home by maybe Tuesday? I miss my cats sooo much, and I’m so thankful for my very dear friend Patricia for taking care of my babies for 8 days.
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? FOOD, too, Christine! Wishing I had bought a box of See’s Chocolate before going in for surgery. Craving chocolate badly, and these, too! 😩🍫🍮🍔🍕🥞🍵🥡🍓
I hope your physical rehab is going well, and that you’ll get home to the kitties soon!
Oh Rachel, so do I! I miss them sooo much. Especially Penelope becoming a more cuddly, friendlier kitty. I hope that she doesn’t regress back to being distrustful and bitey,/scratchy. PT is really doing me a world of good, so I may be able to return home very soon!
That’s wonderful! Michael I will be in AZ for a week in December, and we want you all better so we can hug you in person!
That’s wonderful, Rachel! I can hardly wait to see you in person, too!
I am so relieved that the surgery went well and that you are in a rehabilitation facility to help you recover properly. Don’t rush too much to leave the place because once you are home you will have to do everything yourself and that may end up being a bit hard.
I hope the pain levels are manageable and it’s good for your body to be up and about.
Take care Nancy.
Hi Genevieve, the facility itself is mostly very good, especially the food )nice surprise!), physical therapy team and the other assistants. The not so good? Nurses who are STUBBORN as heck! I have repeatedly told them that, no, I don’t take senna because I have Crohn’s Disease and the direct opposite problem, and, no, I do not and cannot take Ibuprofen or that class of meds due to, again, Crohn’s Disease as well as coronary artery disease and mild congestive heart failure. No one seems to care! I’ve told them that my gastroenterologist and PCP have BOTH agreed that my best for my personal health are the opioids like Percocet. Which, oddly, makes me “perky” and more motivated in attitude towards PT and doing the work to get back home. But, unfortunately, here in the US, there is a very real problem with some people getting addicted. I am not that person, though! I’ve been on them before, and both times I had zero issues weaning myself off of them.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
My R.E.M. Beauty order-Midnight Shadows Midnight Snack eyeshadow palette and Mama Earth, Miss Jupiter, Miss Saturn, Miss Uranus, Miss Mars, and Miss Neptune Interstellar highlight toppers-arrived on time today. Some of the highlighter cases have some scuffs and dents on the lids, but all the shadows and highlighters are in good condition, and I’m happy with the weight and magnetic closure on each product case.
I haven’t placed my Sephora sale order yet, but I have my cart selections finalized-Natasha Denona Pastel palette, GXVE by Gwen Stefani Anaheim Shine Original Recipe lipstick and Line It Up Bathwater eyeliner, Sephora #Lipstories Popsicle Lips and Autumn Blaze lipsticks, and Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Drama Mademoiselle Lupita (designed for celebrity spokeswoman Lupita Nyong’o) lipstick.
Weekend plans:
Worked all day today, a trip to a strip mall tomorrow, weekly grocery run will probably be Sunday (the easiest day for it, due to my and a close relative’s rotating weekend shifts). I’ll have a prescription ready for pickup sometime this weekend, but I don’t yet know for sure if it’ll be tomorrow or Sunday (the original estimated ready day).
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence?
I really don’t know what I would classify as an indulgence! Maybe the dolls I customize?
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I bought a new strengthening nail polish, this time from Essie. I also bought the moisturizer from The Ordinary.
I rediscovered, and decided to use up Malik, a lipstick from Tom Ford, my only one. I’ve not used it in a long time and I don’t want it to turn, I want to use every little bit of it, it’s pretty and it was expensive. I really love the colour a lot.
Weekend, I had thought gardening, but it’s so cold I don’t want to spend even an extra minute outside than I have to, walking Stubbs. I’m sure I can find at least 100 things to do inside, and all of them boring household things like cleaning, doing laundry and other stuff, so I can keep busy if I want to.
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? Probably books, at least most of the time, it can also be fabric, sewing patterns and yarn.
Oh, and shoes! 🙂
I am a bit envious, I must say, seeing Winston enjoying a quiet moment in the sun. As I said, it’s cold here. Winston is so cute!
I love The Ordinary’s products myself – especially their Squalene cleanser, day time moisturiser and their Moroccan Argon Oil. So inexpensive and so good.
Malik is a lovely lipstick and I could see it looking really pretty on you. They are expensive and it is worth using it up.
We’ve just had our coolest weekend all year – thank goodness, because our summer was brutal. I hope your weather turns warmer for you soon.
RECENT PURCHASES: I placed a few orders, but nothing is here yet.
WEEKEND PLANS: Doing some Sunday my husband and I are going to the coast for a few days but ourselves. We’ll be staying at an inn we haven’t been to before.
Whoops! I forget the last question.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST NON-BEAUTY RELATED INDULGENCE?
Travel
Have a lovely few days to yourselves Rachel. There is nothing like a few days away to refresh and relax to unwind. I hope the Inn you’ve chosen to stay at is a lovely one.
Thank you! We’ve had not time to ourselves since last September. The Inn is supposed to be a hidden gem, and all the rooms are decorated with a different scheme. It has stairs that lead (way) down to the beach. We got a suite for a couple nights. We want to check out a few shops and have a nice birthday dinner for Michael. It’s called Moolock Shores Inn if you’d like to see pictures
Recent Purchases: Well… I won a $100 giveaway to an indie makeup brand of my choice, so I purchased some TerraMoons shadows, but I didn’t technically use my own money, lol. I’m on a no buy, but that was a wild way to start out the week!
Rediscoveries: My Colourpop My Little Pony palette and TerraMoons singles. It’s such a pretty spring palette and the singles I have to pair with it pair perfectly.
Weekend plans: nothing in particular! My husband got a new Nintendo Switch, so imagine we’ll tinker with that.
What’s your biggest non-beauty related indulgence? Probably video games and clothes.
Congratulations! That’s an awesome prize.
Recent Purchases: I need to buy foundation but that is about it. Repurchased my favorite serum for 50% off. Going back and forth on bronzers.
Weekend Plans: Resting my back which I injured
My biggest non-beauty indulgence: Definitely books. Give me allll the books please and my favorite author has a new book out next week!!!
